This makes me think of the Alanis Morisette lyrics, '...the moment I jumped off of it, was the moment I touched down.'
I did the same thing a couple of times, years ago. After a few wobbles, everything worked out much better and new doors opened - both times.

I left my home to spread my wings after college, spent the next 10 years moving around, and then eventually landed right back home, surprising even myself. I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything, even though some of those years were very painful. When I moved back home, I met the love of my life who had *also* left for a decade and returned home. If we’d never taken those journeys we wouldn’t have found each other. Life has a funny way of putting you exactly where you need to be and teaching you so much along the way. Thanks for your videos!

This video really healed a part of me, especially when you said "because even though I'm back to where I started I know I'm not the same person who left". Last year I moved to Paris and for six months I was miserable, I hated the job, I hated the place and I missed home. I have to say that I'm 25 and that was the first time I went to live somewhere else. For my own mental health I decided to come back home, at first I felt like a failure, but I grew so much from that experience, I learned so many things about myself and the world, and now I can say I'm almost to the point of being grateful for the experience. But definitely I came home as a different person ❤

I have moved to Netherlands with my husband and I feel the same.. I left my favorite job and my parents back in my home country because I wanted to be with my husband but I’m actually having a rough time adjusting. Every morning I feel like going home and start fresh.. everybody thinks I got a good opportunity but for me it’s gets more difficult every day..

I don’t think there are mistakes, just lessons. We are always learning from our experiences whether we realise it or not. Returning to where we came from doesn’t mean that our interim experiences weren’t helpful and a necessary part of our personal growth and journey.
At the very least you won’t spend your life wondering ‘what if?’, you’ve got those memories to go back to.
Thanks for sharing your story, I really appreciate it:)

Welcome back home, Sophie! This video deeply resonates with me. I've followed your journey from Maui to Portugal to Oahu and back to Maui, and I've learned so much from your experiences. I'm glad you were able to step out of your comfort zone to grow and learn. Not many of us are brave enough to do that. Having lived in Maui my whole life, I moved off island for a little while, and upon returning, I've found an even deeper appreciation living here.

    Aloha Sophie 👋,
I think it’s normal for us to reach a certain point in our lives where we end up right back where we initially started. But when we do, we also end up feeling surprised with ourselves for how far we’ve come in terms of our personal growth and how much we’ve learned about ourselves throughout our journey in life, which is something I personally appreciate the most.
Mahalo for the video, and sending you lots of love!!! ❤️❤️❤️🤗

And that for me has made all the difference. Be blessed.

Sophie since childhood we all aspire to get at a certain position or dream a lot about all the materialistic stuff and it's important as well....but then there's an other side to look towards life as well is what I learnt from you.
Being fully present in the very moment, living intentionally are the most important things one should cultivate. This statement is very simple to put forward but equally hard to actually live up to.And then there are beautiful people like you who actually implement it and inspire others to do as well.... (I mean your perspective and the way you put it in words is legit commendable)
    Lots of love❤️keep inspiring!

I can really relate to you. I have moved to homeland country after living in UK for 12 years, first I was very excited and thought this will change my life for the better and things will be easy and I will be happier. After 4 months Ive been back home, I feel like Im always so exausted as my mind its taking in such a big change and I feel like I started a new beginning, I dont relate to people as well and its strange speaking to relatives after I havent really spoken much for last 12 years. I find it difficult to fit in and I feel very home sick for my life in Uk and I think a lesson is that the grass is not greener somewhere else and that even if you are not happy at the moment in the future you will be upset and wish that you could go back to the moment and tell yourself to not move, to not do something and that you will wish that you could do everything you can to go back in that moment of decision, however Im not the same person and feel like I learnt the lessons that needed to be learnt, up to now change was always good for me and changing jobs has made me more happy, but changing country has left me thinking did I do a right thing cause it has been challenging and I sometimes feel like I made a mistake, sometimes it feels like taking a step back, like I gone back to where I started

    • @Being_Bohemian

Sending thoughts from the UK. ❤ I think it can be tricky when we're a product of two or more countries / cultures. Like people, countries have such different pluses and minuses, and different trade-offs. One of my family members has spent decades moving back and forth between Australia and the UK (a few years in each). After a few years in one, he misses the pluses of the other country. And a friend bounced back and forth between the US and the UK, similarly.
But yes, as the saying goes, we take ourselves wherever we go.
I hope it comes together gradually, for you. It can take time. These kind of adjustments can be huge, and a culture-shock even returning to our homeland. If you still feel the same in time, maybe you'll be able to switch again (though I know the costs can be huge, in every sense).

@@Being_Bohemian and some of us miss more than two countries. I was working yesterday in the public library, in Scotland, and I saw a travel book about my city, Seville, Spain, where Im not living for the last 8 years and was very familiar and strange at the same time see the streets in the map. I was very nostalgic. Then I saw other travel book about Paris, where I was living in my twenties, and I felt at home seeing the streets. Part of me is everyday in Paris, every single day. And I saw another book about Venice so I remembered my Italian life, also the walks in the streets. And I miss Tokyo till tears everyday, part off me is there. Also I missed Edinburgh where I have been only 6 days but terribly in love. 20 years later I risked to spoil my memories moving here and having my daily life. But you are always missing your places. In my dreams Im each time living in one of my different 10 homes. And a lot of times Im speaking in French in my dreams, or Italian, English, Japanese. And sometimes when Im tired at work Ive been talking in French or Japanese. I was like saying wait a minute, in which language are we now. But I love all that mess and learning.

This is something I relate to as I had moved for a little while and when I came back from a sort of long trip/stay I noticed it felt like I too had to start over. But you know what now there is new insight and a new mindset that was not there before. I’m not sure if you can relate to that but I just wanted to let you know that your progress is definitely not lost, coming back is a part of the journey and there are going to be even new exciting memories you will create. I hope you see that as someone that also came back home I do understand where you are coming from ❤

It's ABSOLUTELY okay to go back somewhere or "start over". There's NO rules to life! I've left Hawaii twice, moved back, moved back to other states, started brand new careers, and gone back to school. I feel like life is like the Road to Hana. The journey to Hana is about the journey itself, not the destination (Hana). Enjoy the journey, the ride, and all the experiences along the way!

I don't think you will find anyone who has not made any mistakes. There is a saying that the only ones who haven't broken any plates are the ones who haven't washed any. Past is gone. All what matters is how you handle the present moment. You have the courage to face the life with a smile. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. All the best.

Have you ever thought of living the van life? For example full time or just for a while, like during a couple of months or something. Many see mistakes as failures or something bad, but it can also be seen as a way for people to grow and learn. Sometimes you have go along the wrong path but eventually you will end up finding the right one. Life is all about exploring and learning.
