I also do color consulting in person. You are ABSOLUTELY 100% RIGHT. It has to be done in person. (Thank you for stating that in your video.) Having your colors done absolutely saves you a lifetime of money and energy.
Ahhh thank you for this comment!!! What system do you use? Do you have any tips for how people can find local color consultants that are not part of large franchises?
@@vazq_Fernanda Word of mouth. If clients look great the referrals will come. I went to find the best 3 people in the business and went to work with them first before trying it myself. I use the flow system like you show here. I found personally that the best consultants teach "segments of classes" and that's what I do now. In a small class setting you can see "others" best colors and that is very important to "see" how it works. Most the time people have really fallen for colors that look best on there friends. When you have two different seasons or more in the room the awakening and real magic begins. That's when they are more open to there own coloring because it's really something you can't deny.
You look so great in that blouse and lipstick, you don’t need foundation. I had a wow moment during my analysis when she put a pale aqua drape on me, everyone awh’ed and I looked like the perfect foundation had been applied. When you’re in your best colors, you can see it, if you have to deliberate, it’s not your best. Tip: don’t look at your drape color, look at your skin, especially around the eyes and mouth/nose, and how they change in the different color drapes.
Thank you for mentioning that all ethnicities aren't recognized when doing a color analysis, and telling us about a company that works equally well with all skin tones. I really appreciate it.
Of course! It was one of the things that was super important to me. I don't know why this is the case, but color theory works the same way on everyone - not sure why it's not showcased more 🤷🏻♀️
@Phoe23nix, my good friend is African American, and I keep trying to get her to do this. She has been the most complimentary on my new look and I wish she would just do this! She’s gorgeous and this would be so awesome for her.
I immediately knew you were a winter! But I studied seasonal colors back in the early '80s (with Color Me Beautiful). I agree that everyone needs to know their colors. It makes shopping so much easier!
Me too. But now I’m older, my hair and eyes are faded out and my skin is darker, so winter colours don’t work anymore. I don’t have the contrast I used to.
I finally got my analysis done with House of Colour and I was super surprised how much I was able to see my face and skin and even the definition of my jaw change as she went through the drapes. I already suspected I might be a cool season but I was honestly surprised to be a jewel winter with some of the most vivid and bright colors looking best. It was so fun and interesting and my analyst was super sweet. I am so glad I finally got this done, I definitely had a few items in my wardrobe in my season, but I was frequently buying a lot of items in the wrong season and in warm tones that are less flattering on me.
I had my colors done a few weeks ago, and I was so blown away by my analysis! I have always thought of myself of an Autumn, but I am a Spring. I just couldn’t believe how the Spring colors made my skin glow. I have been obsessed now with shopping for new clothes in my colors. I’ve spent way too much money, but I feel that it is totally worth it. I have gotten many compliments on how good the colors look on me. Loved your awesome, very detailed video!
Wow. I see your profile pic and I would have thought the same! I think I’m a deep autumn…natural brunette…but the fact that I don’t officially know is driving me nuts!!! Not trying to be intrusive, but how much does this service cost?
@@JuliaShalomJordan , oh not at all! It’s not the cheapest thing to get done, and it may depend on the area that you are in, bit it cost $350 for me. They spend 3 hours with you ensuring that they go through every single color they have, then they put a little makeup on you, provide you with a little color analysis booklet (it stays in my purse and goes everywhere with me) and then of course they share tons of tips, how-tos, etc. There are also online boutiques that are specifically all about clothing by your color/season. It was money very well spent for me. It also totally takes the guesswork out of buying certain color clothing because you just stick with your colors. I also took my husband and made him get his done. 😂😂😂 He was a believer by the end of it, and he fought me on going right up until we pulled up to my consultant’s house. Lol!!!
I had color analysis done 30 years ago (Color Me Beautiful) and found I am cool, muted and soft in coloring- a soft summer. I find I am naturally attracted to those colors for clothing for me now, because they are the things in my closet that I consistently reach for and make me feel great. In the past, when I was attracted to a beautiful color not in my season, it tended to sit in my closet because I didn't look my best in it, and had few things to wear it with - i.e. a waste of money. I feel totally confident wearing "my colors" in my basic wardrobe - navy, white, grey and taupe, adding blues, greens, purples and wines as my coordinating colors. Knowing my colors has saved me a lot of money and gives me a wardrobe where everything is harmonious.
Me, too, and I’m also a Summer. I don’t know my sub-season, my analysis was before they had that, but suspect I’ve moved from True to Light Summer as I’ve aged.
@@JuliaShalomJordan . It can be helpful to discover which seasons you are definitely NOT by using colours like mustard, orange, black vs navy etc. Some colours will be easy to see don’t suit you (your probably already avoid them) and if a couple of those are from one season, it is unlikely you are that season. It might reduce the seasons you are debating between.
I agree. Women and clothes have so many layers of feelings. It's sometimes easier to look in other areas which colours you love. Before I knew my colours, my entire wardrobe was black, grey and blue, but my house was decorated in warm/true autumn colours. These are the colours I naturally love, but I didn't have the confidence to wear them. My pets are even true autumn colours. It feels less sensitive to look at non-clothes colours we're drawn to.
I’ve definitely experienced make-up artists getting it wrong. I’m always matched to cool tones because I have redness in my skin, even though my undertones are neutral leaning warm. I wear the more muted and deep shades in the autumn palette.
Yes, I would love to see more about "best" colors, for example, how to keep the neutrals you love as you slowly add those brighter, punchier accents, and how to work around having beloved pieces that are in "not one's best" shades. For example, yellow and orange make me happy, but they do not flatter me at all. So, I gave away most of my yellow and yellow-orange pieces, but kept a crossbody bag and a pair of pointy flats in a sunflower shade of yellow that I find very uplifting. I wear them with a white top and dark blue or gray bottoms, and I feel great. Same goes with one of my investment pieces: my camel-colored wool and cashmere coat. I now know it's not the best color for me (it's the type of camel shade that leans really warm) but I work around it by wearing burgundy, navy, white, or black scarves near my face, and dusty rose or cool red lipstick. (Feeling like your boyfriend here...I am NOT giving up my camel coat! It's one of my favorite pieces!)
I had my colours done at House of Colour headquarters - I live in the UK. I wish I had done it years ago, I am much more adventurous with my colours now and everything in my wardrobe complements each other making dressing so much easier and fun. A great investment!
I am a winter too, i love clear, bold/vivid, colors..those instantly brighten my face and is true, that you dont need to wear makeup, a lipstick and your fine, it’s amazing.
I have been trained in The Color Me Beautiful method. It’s the same theory as the one you are talking about. Another way to tell warm from cool people is that anyone with a black or dark ring around the outside of the pupil will always be cool! Probably 80% of what you have in your wardrobe are your colors, unless you’ve had the strong influence of another season growing up. Say your Mother was a Winter and you are a Spring-your Mother probably dressed you in the colors she liked, unless she was observant enough to see that you didn’t look good in those colors. Also there are 2 colors that universally look good on everyone. Aqua and a pinky corral. They might look better on some, but they won’t look bad on anyone! I am also a Winter. When I had my colors done the lady draped me with a blood red and she said “WOW!” My face came alive! It is so hard to find that color of red-most ready to wear clothes are made in an orange red. So burgundy is a good second choice! If you want to deep dive further into hair and makeup colors-read the book Color Me Beautiful. Also you can wear any color you want and look good if you wear one of “your” colors next to your face!
Had my colors done last week. House of color in Dallas. She used only natural light. It was an amazing experience and so much fun. Wish I had done this years ago .. I am a winter..was super happy… this NYer can continue to wear her black. But I will add some color. Thank you Fernanda - this video was the reason I had it done.
You do look great in that color. ❤️ I’m pretty sure I was a winter when I was younger but now that I’m 70, paler and partially grey…I feel like the muted colors of summer are better for me: I think grays, muted pinks & blues and olive greens compliment my complexion better. You said if a person is a winter, you always are so I’m confused. Thanks for your help!
Interesting… it’s not supposed to change! It makes me wonder if you were mistyped back then of if there is a different subset of colors that really wows now that you haven’t considered.
@@vazq_Fernanda That’s very possible! 🌸 I have blue gray eyes, was born with white-blonde hair which turned dark brown by the time I was in high school. Also, I grew up in Miami so I always had a tan then. So … I probably have always been a summer and didn’t know it. Thank you for helping me resolve that and now, in my ‘silver years’ I’ll finally wear the colors that look best on me. 💗
This is very good information! In the 80s I was draped by an Image of Loveliness Consultant. I’m a Winter also. Recently I’ve learned I’m a Type 4 in Carol Tuttle’s DressYour Truth profiling system. I actually typed myself while reading Carol’s book, “It’s Just my Nature”. Your videos on Capsule Wardrobes are very helpful to me. Thank you!
It’s true, personal preference should be taken into account, too. As a Summer, most purples, lilacs, etc., are good colors for me, but I recently eliminated this hue from my wardrobe, as I just find it too difficult to style. It felt like a struggle to find pieces that worked with my purple clothes, and I just didn’t love it enough. I don’t miss it, I find that the fewer colors I work with, the easier it is to have a functional wardrobe that I love.
I love purples and lilacs too. I have found that a warmer beige, or chestnut brown can "ground" these colors so they don't look as cloying as when worn with other cool colors.
I pegged you as a winter when I saw your first video, I didn’t know why you were wearing all those warm colors that didn’t suit you. I don’t think think color analysis can be well done online, although many tried to keep their businesses going online during the pandemic by offering this service. I would only consider this online option if there is no way to get it in person. Mine was done in the early 80s by Color Me Beautiful, which is the original, and what your analysis system was based on. It was outdoors, in bright shade, no makeup. It was tricky for the analyst to determine my undertone, as I am closer to neutral than many people, being only slightly on the cool side. I found this analysis very useful over the last 40 years, but have recently found that I now prefer the lighter shades of my (Summer) palette, as my hair, brow, cheeks/lips and even eye coloring have all faded somewhat. My color analysis was gifted as a treat to my sister and me, from our Mom, but I think it’s a good investment, if done in-person by a well-trained person. It also really helps n building a good wardrobe, not just because the colors are better, but because it’s easier to get a more limited, useful and cohesive palette if not trying to wear every color under the rainbow.
Hi Fernanda! Great explanation of a daunting topic. ! Your look fabulous in that shade of green, subtle makeup and bold lipstick. I had my colours done about 40 years ago (I am 68) and I still use the advice, especially near my face and neck and taking into account my greying hair. I often use scarves to keep the best colours near my face. I think the subject deserves to be taught in school to people of any gender in their early teens to take from what they will. I look forward to your videos because you cover different aspects of how to feel good about ourselves. 🤗
Hah, black isn't flattering on me (makes me look so pale since most likely I'm a soft summer) but I still wear it almost 24/7 next to my face - that's my personal style and I don't care 😅. But I also know my best colors and wear them when I really want to!
Loved this video! Would love more on how you're creating your capsules now that you know, how you're using the colours that don't "suit" you - and also how you're finding the transition!
@@vazq_Fernanda yes! I took a course from Daria Andronescu (she's a youtuber and stylist). Her course is called Wonder Wardrobe, and I took a lot of photos with coloured clothes next to my face. Based on her method and the photos she confirmed I was an autumn!
I had my colours done a few years ago and it was fantastic. Although it worked out that I was a Soft Autumn and I mostly had Winter colours in my wardrobe, so that’s taken some time to transition - bye bye black! I would love to see a video on a capsule wardrobe in your new colours. 🌈😀
I thought the bright, flashy winter colors, and pale gray was a nothing color. I tried clothes on that I wasn’t even considering buying, just to see if she was right. I glowed in those horrible bright colors, and I bought the pale gray silk blouse that I thought was horrible.
Yes! I have been struggling with this since the 80’s. Did the Color Me Beautiful and labeled a winter. Done another and was a dark autumn. Did another program that uses facial profiling and I look jaundiced in those colors and hideous jewelry. I am almost 60 and though my complexion has changed, I feel like I’m losing myself again. Very helpful video and binging on more. Thank you!
I still have my. Swatch of Spring colours done 40, years ago. Most of the colours are too strong for me now and too warm, but softer version of the mid tones are still my best colours.
Winter is a stunning season, I just love all of the jewel tones. Don't be afraid of magenta but you also get blue-toned reds, gorgeous dark purple and green.
Thank you for this video. I have rosacea but I have a light olive tone and it’s so hard to tell what my undertones are etc. I’m so tired of quizzes asking what I look better in. If I knew I wouldn’t be taking the quiz lol. I’m going to look for someone locally thank you to your advice. Can’t wait to finally find out what “my colors” are
Thanks for addressing this Fernanda! I've been enjoying your videos so much lately. I've had a professional colour analysis done a couple of years ago ( my mum was very much into it),at the time I could care less, but nowadays I'm really glad that I did it, because the cues and questions that typically come up in these videos really threw me for a loop ( and like you, I've watched a ton). Based on the analysis by the professional I had a warm undertone, or spring type ( light skin, freckles, blue/green eyes and gold/copper coloured hair) but based on the questions I often come out as someone who should wear cooler tones ( my veins show more on the blue side, I blush easily, etc) Sticking to the professional's analysis really helped me, because while there are not a lot of colours I shy away from, I always prefer the warmer undertones. Also, I take it as a guideline; while I don't think I'd ever wear something that really doesn't suit me, such lavender, I happily wear neutral/true colours even if the lady kindly advised me to choose ivory etc instead ;)
@@marijeb278 I love this comment. I think that with the right attitude it can open up a whole lot of possibilities you hadn't thought of before, and can clarify some things you may be struggling with. I think this is also going to be something for me that I'm very glad I did in years to come.
Love all your videos! I have three books on color and am still not sure of mine. Maybe a winter. I tried to hire someone but she was not available. I hope to get this done soon.
@@lynndeln792 Where are you located? I linked a map from house of colour in the description box so you can find your closest consultant in US, UK, and other places in Europe.
I loved this video Fernanda. This was by far one of the best explanations, straight forward and easily understood. Would love to see how you will now apply this to your own capsule wardrobe, especially as you said in spring and summer. I am a clear winter and as I live in Western Australia it is warm/hot for 9 months of the year and winters are mild. So darker colours look a bit conspicuous. I love white but not wearing it everyday 😆 Thank you for all your detailed research too! 😊 💞
I love that you touched on our personal association with colors- I have such a hard time with that! I literally get…almost anxiety from some colors😵💫 I just can’t stand them😅 great video💓👏🏼🤓🌷😻
I used to think that a certain shade of purple gave me a headache... 😆 like what? But now those associations are changing. I can't deny that certain colors do love me!
Thank you for this very thorough and honest video. I got my colors done virtually and like you, I was always unsure about undertone. I have medium brown skin so I always just assumed it was "warm" but that never felt right and it created this awful feeling of guessing. It was a relief to know for sure that I have cooler undertones and it was like instantly everything in my closet made more sense (including the items I stayed away from). I was also intimidated by all the dark colors/black. I like to be colorful because I feel like leaning towards black makes you look lazy/non experimental fashion-wise. But it's just an association I've had to process and re-evaluate. To your point, the truth is, Winter does have very bright colors but I've just never been a fan of purple. I can feel that slowly changing now. How forgiving we are to things that enhance our beauty! Ha! Thanks again for the awesome vid.
I found a House of Colour consultant near me and had a consultation! Really enjoyed finding out my season (Spring) and my best colors. Loved the makeup advise as well. Thanks for your video that motivated me to do this!
I found a great way to find undertone. An online color analyst said to get a swatch of gold lame fabric and another silver lame fabric. Well, I don’t have this handy. One day I realized I had a very gold decorative dish. I thought I could use this in natural (but not direct) daylight. So what about shiny silver? Aha! I got a sheet of aluminum foil. I was convinced I was a Dark Autumn. I put the gold dish under my chin and looked very ill. I then took the silvery foil, and magically my skin cleared. There was no question. It is so hard to be objective with oneself. So now I know I’m a Dark Winter. The green you’re wearing is lovely on you. Thanks for the video.
As a young adult I was always drawn to jewel tones; blues, pinks, red/oranges. I got sucked into the capsule wardrobe when I returned to full time office work. 2 1/2 years later I’m so boarded. I love when fall rolls around because I love the plums, burgundy’s, rich bright greens and rust/brownish colors. I am now making A rich Navy my new black, it just hard to find. I think I’m a little darker than you but feel the same way about make up. My makeup Artist friend always saids just a bold red/bright pink lip and mascara and brows are all I need. I watched this video yesterday before I went to the mall. I was buying a color in a top because “it’s in” before I even walked out I decided to return it. I’m going to go for the bold color instead. Thank you for reminding us that we don’t all have to fall in that trap.
Wow. Thanks for all your research. This was very helpful. Yes I would love a series about your color. You have some really good insights for this topic and I appreciate your hard work. I look forward to seeing where this path takes you and your wardrobe.
Great video! I went through same issues. Finally had my colors done by a local ‘House of Colour’ consultant (in person). It was AMAZING - a game changer! They give you a color catalog with fabric samples - such a help with shopping and closet clean-out.
@@vazq_Fernanda Autumn is my season. My consultant said these new fans are amazing since the color swatches are fabric vs the previous ones that were paper samples. I live in Chicago and had my color analysis done by Ashley Lynn (in Wilmette, IL). I have watched other videos about the process and Ashley Lynn had me wear a white hair net so my hair did not distract from the process (I didn't see this mentioned on any videos I have watched) - the hair net was a must for me.
Great video! You are correct about the standard DYI questions. They might get you to the right place or maybe not. Further, the hair coloring industry is set up to only focus on beautiful hair color; they really do not care if the color looks good on you. Plus, chemically many medium to lighter blonde shades tend to pull warm as they oxidize, so the colorist tries to "warm you up" knowing the hair color will last longer. And don't get me started about the "make-up" consultants at retailers. Not only are they NOT trained, some people do not naturally possess the color acuity required to analyze color. Their innate ability is not substantial enough to discern color variations at the level of hue, intensity and chroma. And lastly, many retailers have the worst lighting for determining undertones. I have completed roughly ten PCA consultations (Personal Color Analysis) starting with an original Carol Jackson "Carol Me Beautiful" session in the 80s. These were the consultations (?) that felt like the old Tupperware parties hosted by a friend in their living room. My last consultation was in August, 2022. Over the years I have been wildly mis-analyzed. Was it the methodology, the environment or the innate ability of the analyst? That is a good question. Of the ten consultations, seven have been "formulaic." Formulaic meaning the palette you receive is pre-designed/determined by a corporate entity that trains various people who want to pay money to use the corporate "system." Sci/ART, HOC, etc. etc. The three non-formulaic consults were much more "free-hand", shall we say. Of the three "free-hand" consults, only one was NEXT LEVEL. Why? 1.) Because the consultant is a trained artist and his color acuity is naturally very strong, he received an artistic education and his acuity has been refined over 40 years. 2.) A controlled environment (essential.) Natural light is ok, but not great. Natural light varies wildly depending on latitude (the north-south position of your location on the surface of the earth), time of year, time of day and current weather (sunny, cloudy, in between?) 3.) Lastly, the palette one receives and leaves with is all in fabric, not printed INK swatches. Anyway, I do think color analysis is a truly important tool to have. And most consultants need to have a "formula" to work with because they are not trained artists. But, for the best possible analysis, one needs a controlled environment-lighting (and most likely hair covered up.) And an individual with a high level of color acuity. Oh, and as a final note, only one of my "formulaic" consultants nailed it. She was identical to the NEXT LEVEL artist. She is excellent.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I think you look great in that green blouse. Where is it from? I love that color and I have been looking for blouses in similar shades but it’s not easy to find clothes in jewel tones nowadays. I believe I’m also a deep winter but I have not had a professional evaluation. I have had trouble all my life being told I should wear foundation with warm undertones but after I figured out that I was a deep winter I got a cool to neutral shade and I have never felt/looked better. I think many times makeup artists and other fashion/beauty professionals make decisions based on stereotypes related to our ethnicity instead of carefully looking at our actual skin, eyes and hair. At least that’s my impression. I’m glad you found a company that seems to do a good job with a diverse clientele.
I did House of Colour about 5 years ago with a consultant in Houston. Such a game changer and completely worth it!! Fellow WINTER here as well…makes shopping so easy. I know when i go into a store, i can scan quickly and know immediately if my colors are there and it is a time saver. Great video and completely accurate.
Every single test i did online and on myself gave me deep winter, one time true winter (probably because of the lighting) but i always felt black looked wierd with my hair and white looks atrocious on me, i had a color analysis done a few weeks ago, turns out i'm dark autumn ._. i got compliment when i had my hair blue and none when it was purple not because it was a blue but because it was a teal, same for a linen shirt a lot of people love on me, hunter green and plums looks good on me, not because they are cool colors but because they are dark warm versions of those colors (also winter colors don't look bad they just look disconnected, that why red lipstick looks garrish on me)
I went to House of Colour after this video and had my colors done! I always thought I had a yellow undertone but it turns out I’m cool toned! And I happen to be a winter also! So I’m looking forward to seeing how your wardrobe changes :)
OH MY GOD how cool!!! You are the third person who has told me they went after this video. I'm so glad you did it, I am having the best time with it! I even found a pair of dish gloves in bright winter colors that are giving me LIFE!
It’s interesting that so many of us who have had our color analysis (like me), or are themselves analysts, knew you were a winter. We don’t just get our best colors, we learn a lot from the analysis. Now, I’d like to see you apply this new knowledge to your wardrobe in videos for us. I would recommend just purging the least flattering colors of tops, to start, it’s tough to make a golden yellow shirt work on you, for example. You might be able to work with other extant items, bottoms are easy, for one thing, and jackets can be “cut” with something underneath in a better color. I look terrible in black and other darks, but love them, so I use something lighter around my face, for example, when I wear them.
This video is so helpful! I took your recommendation to heart. I couldn’t find a House of Colour stylist near me but I’m going to the UK this summer so I found a stylist there and booked an appointment. I’m hoping that knowing my best colours will give me the confidence to pare down my wardrobe. Thank you for sharing your experience. 🙏
I was wearing the wrong undertone for my skin tone. I thought I was warm but in fact olive. Which put me in deep winter when all along I thought I was a deep autumn.
During lockdown I had an online colour analysis which I wasn't convinced about. After lockdown I had an in person HOC analysis which revealed the on line one was incorrect.
I "knew" you were a winter! (Or, I suspected, at least.) I'll tell you when I was "convinced" 😃you were : When you did the party dress-code video, you wore a strawberry red dress (good against your skin and eyes, but "something" was missing) a deep teal dress (better, but sort of too muted and somber) and a royal blue gown (WOW! Your eyes and face looked as if they had their own light! Superfabulosa!) There's also another video (maybe trying Amazon Prime clothing?) where you wore 2 red sweaters: the cooler and deeper red made you glow in a way the lighter, more pinkish one didn't. And, on a recent video, I commented that the blue-red lipstick you had on looked amazing on you, and suggested you tried "Beso" by Stila and "Russian Red" by MAC. Now that you have confirmed you are cool and winter, go back to some of the old videos and see what you notice that you were not so sure about before. I think you'll be pleased to see it more clearly. BTW--Did the color analysis say anything about having a cool-neutral olive undertone? I seem to pick up that on some of your videos, but that could be, of course, the lighting in the space, or my monitor color calibration, or any other number of things. (I'm a winter, too, and understand how you feel about magenta. Try something like raspberry---lipsticks and scarves---and you'll probably like that a lot more than the punchy fuchsia-magenta of the crayon boxes. Not so bright and scary!)
She did say I have a little bit of an olive undertone, but she didn't say anything about neutral. I think I forgot to ask her this - is there such a thing as neutral? Because from the system one would think that no - everyone will lean more one way than the other. I wonder...
@@vazq_Fernanda Some "systems" say olive undertones tend to lean cool-to-neutral, because to make green, you need a a lot of blue (cool) plus a little yellow (warm). Apparently that cool + warm combination pushes the typical "icy" coolness a bit more towards the middle, or the neutral/more balanced zone. (I imagine, if you have any olive, it's very subtle. I see mine on my neck and chest, not so much on my face...but I'm definitely, overall, a winter. I can see it clearly when I try ivory vs. white, brown vs black, tomato red vs. ruby red.) It'll be so much fun for you now that you can slowly start choosing certain colors over others with the confidence of knowing they will flatter!
I am deeply fascinated. No wonder you may find yourself gravitating towards some of the saturated autumn colors. You seem to be what some analysts call "deep".
i haven't heard anyone told black doesn't look good.. . i've seen a few analysts tell clients that navies/browns would be a flattering alternative, but most understand people who live in dirty cities, or men in corporate careers, etc, WILL be wearing black (if for no other reason than simple practicality/necessity).. . i think the point is to know the best colors that can be introduced with it in shirts/blouses/ties/scarves/etc, and then when the time comes to add new staple pieces (like suits) then they can consider trying other neutrals like greys/navies/camels/etc, but i think any analyst with experience knows the average person can't/won't be running out and purchasing a whole new wardrobe based on that day's consultation.
Yes! Would love to see videos on color analysis stuff. I have always loved your capsule color pallets and it would be interesting to see how you incorporate cool winter colors into future capsules! Love your channel :)
Honestly I always thought you were cold-toned, even if you said in some videos that you were on the warm side. High contrast and dark hair can often lead to confusion and thinking you're warmer than you actually are. I got my analysis done a few years ago, I'm a soft deep winter in the system used by my analyst. It means my best colours are deep winter ones but slightly toned down by some grey infused in them. I don't really follow the rules as the gospel, but it certainly helps to know what colours NOT to wear. I look awful in neon and warm tones.
Wow, we must be ridding the same wave at the moment. I have been studying colors for a month now and looked up the House of Color agent near me. What took me back a bit is that before and after pictures in the website have "no makeup" vs "best colors plus make up" pictures. So, I am glad you explained the process. Also, I see that regardless of undertones every one can wear universal colors. So pure bright yellow is still a go if you like it. Thank you for the informative video.
Yes, the reason they do it is because if you like to wear makeup, they also show you the best colors of lipsticks, blushes, etc that will harmonize with you. It’s optional, but I found it very helpful because sometimes you can wear the wrong lipstick and even if you’re wearing the right colors, it can clash a little bit. I saw it happening in the get ready with me video I made a few months ago. I highly recommend!
I would love to see more. Several years ago I went to a color wheel party to figure it all out. It was enjoyable and I found helpful ideas but not nearly in depth enough to know my season, other than what I have figured out myself. Let’s nerd away on color! Thanks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are the first person that has ever explained why some colours in the winter spectrum suit me and others don’t. I know I’m a winter and others do too but I can’t wear white or red at all. I know black and navy suit me but it’s all the jewel colours that look the best. It only took 50 something years to figure this out but I know it now. Not all of it makes sense however. I know you’re a winter but you look completely different from me. Until I went grey I had “mousy” blonde and later light brown hair
If you’re an artist you can do it yourself in your digital art app. That’s what I did and I found myself to be a cool tone, spring winter type. I just put colors on top of my selfie, with different lightings, mostly sun. But that’s how I found my color, and being an artist helped me but that doesn’t mean a non artist can’t do it.
Back in 1985 I became a color consultant for Beauty for All Seasons. I still have the drapes and use the color principles for the seasons today when buying for myself or my loved ones. I am a winter as well and knew you were one by watching you on TH-cam.
I did a colour analysis when i was in my early 20’s and found i was a spring, which was the colours i had been drawn to anyway, it helped me to understand the difference of the gold based shades to pick and what didn’t work on me. I recently went through all my clothes and divided all my clothes into the 4 seasons of capsule wardrobes and got rid of what i wasn’t comfortable in or wrong colour and was excited to look at each one and how many outfits i now have to wear that are new. 😁again thankyou i just love your videos
Yes would love to see more color theory and color analysis videos! So excited you brought this up! I've been waiting for this since following you. I can imagine a color analysis being very helpful but am fearful of my wardrobe becoming limiting and in turn boring. Would love you see you prove that as wrong but playing with your season colors and using other colors you love just not near your face. Thank you 😊
I have green veins and I can handle both silver and gold, and wear only cool, jewelled colours despite having a neutral skintone because these are my best colours.
I discovered you on my Instagram explore page and thought the i’d take a look at some of your videos and I found this one really interesting! I’ve never seriously dedicated time to my own personal style; i’ve always just focused on whatever felt comfortable on me more so than what made me look and feel good. But this definitely made me want to look into figuring out my colours and potentially getting a consultation sometime!! Thank you for this !! :)
Great video. I had my colors done many years ago. I am also a Winter but according to the consultant at that time "with a softer blend." I think we kind of know which colors are some of our best as we tend to gravitate to those colors. I am much older now so probably have my best colors done again. Love, love this content..so interesting and informative. Thank you.
AMAZING video😍🥳👌🏽👍🏽 had my colors done by color guru, about 1 month ago. And it changed, not only my wardrobe, but the way I look at other people to. And know I can’t NOT see it. I’ve been talking to all my friends about it and have been able to open their eyes to. Love this. Also made it easier to narrow down my closet, simply by passing on the items to friends who suites the colors better. So interesting 🤗🤗🤗😘 I’m a calm autumn in their system by the way 😉
YES TO THIS!!! Did you separate your wardrobe by great vs. not so great colors? I have yet to do that, but I agree that it's much easier to get rid of a LOT of stuff now! And I don't even have that much to get rid of!
@@vazq_Fernanda kind of…. I only kept “my colors” except for one pair of black jeans. All the tops that’s not my colors, I’ve given away. And I feel so much better. It’s like people look at me and not my outfit so much anymore, other than they compliment me more 🤗 The sorting part, was easy for me.
I’m soooo glad I found this video! I’ve been trying to figure out my season for so long, and have pretty much determined that I do have a warm undertone, but cannot figure out if I’m fall or spring. All the color analysis videos I’ve watched make it so confusing, and I too have found the companies I’ve looked into for color analysis don’t really seem to show that great of results, or any at all. I’m going to look and see if I have one of these consultants in my area from this company. Here’s hoping I’ll finally be able to figure out which colors are my best ones.
I've watched so many videos on season color and this is the 1st video that helped me even "get " what the heck this whole thing is about. Like I understood the concept as a concept but putting the concept into practice was giving me confusion. Thank you so mucb
Yes please to more colour videos! I’m always a bit confused as my natural colouring would most probably be a winter - as I’m naturally very dark hair, green hazel eyes and fair skin but now I’m a golden blonde (due to being quite grey!). I am so confused! Love that green on you. 😊 I’m in the UK so will check them out!
Really enjoyed this ,I have had the same challenges as you ,I have had 4 colour analysis , 2 where face to face and 2 where online all different the face to face where deep winter and deep autumn ,,the online where soft autumn and toasted summer its so hard the same with hairdressers & makeup artist ect , The main area I struggle with is in hair colour I would love to find the season I belong to so I can choose the right colour ,but after watching this I will definitely be checking out the House of colour ,thankyou for doing the research on this
That chart made sense to me. I must be winter on the near side to autumn, or autumn on the near side to winter lol. There are colors in both that I look good in and some that I look bad in. Your lovely green blouse matches one of mine. 😉
interesting video. I have also found that House of Color videos tend to be the most reliable ones online, and there is indeed a lot of outright wrong as well as misleading and confusing information on the web. I was fortunate to receive a very good color analysis for myself years ago, and it has helped me tremendously over the years, and probably saved me tons of money. I had no idea what color season I was, and I was miscued into the wrong colors, because my mother is a very different season than I am. You know how mothers can influence you...saying, 'oh this is a nice color'... or 'this is ugly who would ever wear something like that'.... Well, it turns out that a lot of 'ugly' colors by my mom's standards, are exactly what I needed to wear close to my face to look my best. So, I had to reprogram myself, and the session was the beginning of this process. But the results were so striking and convincing, that I kept at it, and I have never looked back. It turned out that I was a light spring, and the challenges for this color in real life are very different than they are for example for the winter type, as you mention in the end of your video. We spring season types are underserved both in the clothing as well as the makeup market. I have learned to buy most of my clothes in the spring and summer, and then stop clothes shopping for most of the rest of the year, and on until about March. Here and there I will see an odd sweater in a good spring color and I might buy it, but it is rare that this happens. Some of the spring neutrals can be found year round. Right now I need to go winter coat shopping and dread the idea of searching for a good color for me, when everything that hangs there is dark (black, gray, brown, navy blue, etc). In general, light springs will find that if they need to wear suits in a business environment, that they run up against certain corporate policies or expectations, and they will stand out a lot, and I have been to clients where I knew that I would not be able to work in that environment, and those companies have no idea that they are actually discriminating based on color in a very different way than this term is traditionally used. Most of these companies were discriminating in the common ways against color too, btw., this was just an additional blind spot, and I realize that my problem was small compared to many other people. The fact that formal dress codes are mostly a thing of the past these days, has generally been very helpful for me in my career. I have learned to enjoy the rich colorful nature of what I am able to wear, the surprises that I am able to pull off, I love that I don't have to blend in a lot, and yet I can look good doing so. Without the help of a professional color analysis, I would have never been able to navigate this terrain in a sure-footed way and would have made a ton of costly mistakes. Color analysis works and really helps, and it should be done in person and by using the range of shawls that they can drape around you to for your benefit and learning experience.
I am a trained color and body type analyst and I could have told you from seeing in you in videos that you were "Winter" or according to the system I use a CLEAR and what colors are your best colors. Good for you increasing your knowledge and your confidence by wearing your best colors.
I would have loved to hear that sooner! I was super confused and also I get comments all the time telling me I look good in warmer colors, that made me more confused. What system do you use? Also, maybe you can answer this for us - is there such a thing as neutral undertone? What do you think?
I totally agree that color analysis should be done on person not online. I made a color analysis online and one consultant said that I'm a summer but Daria Andronescu (she is the creator of the wonder wardrobe course) on the base of my photo says one that I'm a winter 😂
I just found this video. How long after your analysis did you become a House of Colour consultant? I am surprised you went to VA because my consultant, Colleen, was in PA at that time (she analyzed me in July 2021). House of Colour is amazing; I am so glad I went with them instead of another company. Are you a sultry or burnished winter? I'm a mix of jewel and sultry winter and had the same experience as you; when the summer drapes were placed on me, they weren't horrible but when Colleen revealed the winter ones underneath, it was like someone shined a light on me! The summer drapes looked a bit faded in comparison. Seasonal color analysis is not restricting, it's actually liberating!
I am a top stylist after teaching Design. You did very well! I dress ladies from 5 states. I found analysis years ago. I am a light winter. Everything goes together!!!
HOW COOL! Thank you! You know my unexpected favorite thing after getting my colors done? It's looking at my laundry basket and seeing everything tones together. I don't know why but it just makes me smile!
I had a color analysis done and it was worth it! I like having rules for dressing myself. It takes away the stress. In addition to the color analysis I also had a body type analysis. Both have helped me tremendously.
I had to send pictures of my body to determine bone structure etc. I also sent pictures of favorite outfits. I was given an analysis of the body type I have based on the Kibbe system and what silhouettes look best on me. I'm a soft natural body type which look best with flowy, untailored outfits with a slight waist emphasis. You can take the Kibbe test at home but it's very difficult to analyze your body and answer the questions honestly. For this I recommend a professional.
Update: The color analysis I had wasn’t in person. It was based on pictures I sent. I was told I was a delicate cool. Yesterday I had my color analysis done with House of Colour in person. Found out I am an Autumn 😲!
@@mabelperez9962 😱😱😱 No kidding?! WOW that's shocking. At the end of the day what matters most is that YOU see the effect that colors have on you. Which set of colors do you think suit you better? Delicate cool, or autumns? I would also be curious to know the name of the company who did your body typing.
@@vazq_Fernanda I’m still digesting my color analysis because it was shocking. I’m not sure how I will proceed with this new information. I started to remember during the consultation that I was ignoring several flags that leaned to an Autumn for example: I never gave up my olive green military jacket because I loved it too much, I prefer to wear gold jewelry instead of silver and pink blushes never looked good on me. As far as my body analysis I used a service from a you tuber. The name of her channel is the aligned lover. I hope this helps. BTW you gave me the inspiration to get my color analysis with HOC. Thank you!
🙋 Now that color is you. For sure the best testimony for House of Color.👍 Actually I fall into the same color category though your complexion is lighter than mine. That shirt is even one of my favorite styles.
I'm super interested in this topic as I think the way we feel and we present ourself to the world has a huge impact on opportunities we may encounter. What i didn't like is that I had the impression all POC were instantly dark autumn. I didn't get the whole "undertone" thing and it became quite frustrating. I wanted to have a colour analysis done by a professional but I don't believe in online solutions for such a service. Thanks for doing all the research for us! I have now reached out to a HOC consultant. You should definitely look for that sponsorship girl!! :)
@@victoriavargas7935 I love that idea! Where are you located? How can people book your services?
Seriously! Every time I see people offering virtual color analysis, I cringe. You need to see how the colors reflect off your skin to 'get' it.
Lo
You look so great in that blouse and lipstick, you don’t need foundation. I had a wow moment during my analysis when she put a pale aqua drape on me, everyone awh’ed and I looked like the perfect foundation had been applied. When you’re in your best colors, you can see it, if you have to deliberate, it’s not your best. Tip: don’t look at your drape color, look at your skin, especially around the eyes and mouth/nose, and how they change in the different color drapes.
Yes to this comment!! Look into your own eyes.
So did I.
Me too. But now I’m older, my hair and eyes are faded out and my skin is darker, so winter colours don’t work anymore. I don’t have the contrast I used to.
@@missmayflower try a system that has a bright winter palette.
I had colors done about 30 years ago also and I agree with you 100%!
I want to do this so bad! Bought the Color me beautiful books…but still found this hard to figure out!😅😩🤯
@@JuliaShalomJordan .
I will nerd out about color with you any day of the week! I'm also a winter and I feel stronger when I wear those colors. :)
Yes please! I would like to see more videos about coloring. This one already was great.
Love from Germany, Renate
Thanks Renate! Do you have any specific questions I could answer?
I finally understand why some outfits I looked like i "needed makeup".
I had my colours done at House of Colour headquarters - I live in the UK. I wish I had done it years ago, I am much more adventurous with my colours now and everything in my wardrobe complements each other making dressing so much easier and fun. A great investment!
That's so cool! How long ago was this, they have been around for a long time, haven't day? What season are you?
That is so interesting! I have a dark ring around my gray-blue eyes and know I am definitely a cool season, probably summer. 💗
The green of your shirt looks absolutely stunning on you!
Me, too, exactly. Ditto to everything, including wearing scarves in my colors.
Me too! Great video. You already answered a lot of questions :)
I'll get into all of this soon! I was wondering that company you went with?
@@vazq_Fernanda do you mean for colour analysis?
@@MiliVelikova yeah! Didn’t you say you just had your colors done when we spoke?
@@vazq_Fernanda yes! I took a course from Daria Andronescu (she's a youtuber and stylist). Her course is called Wonder Wardrobe, and I took a lot of photos with coloured clothes next to my face. Based on her method and the photos she confirmed I was an autumn!
I had my colours done a few years ago and it was fantastic. Although it worked out that I was a Soft Autumn and I mostly had Winter colours in my wardrobe, so that’s taken some time to transition - bye bye black! I would love to see a video on a capsule wardrobe in your new colours. 🌈😀
I loved summer colors and had sewn an entire wardrobe of lined wool blazers, pants, and skirts. I’m a winter. What a waste of time and money.
I'd like lots and lots and lots more colour videos please!
Can’t wait to finally find out what “my colors” are
What do you think? Have you gotten a color analysis done? Was it worth it? I'm super interested to hear your thoughts!
Also, thank you for enduring a longer-than-usual video! There was a lot I thought was important to share 💛
Based on the analysis by the professional I had a warm undertone, or spring type ( light skin, freckles, blue/green eyes and gold/copper coloured hair) but based on the questions I often come out as someone who should wear cooler tones ( my veins show more on the blue side, I blush easily, etc)
Sticking to the professional's analysis really helped me, because while there are not a lot of colours I shy away from, I always prefer the warmer undertones.

Yes very interested about more color
Fernanda, what an incredibly informative video and a great promotion of House of Colour! Thank you so much!
I really do think their system is very good and super consistent. I' glad the video was helpful!
RIGHT? I got my color fan and I haven't really shown it yet. What season are you? Who was your consultant?
This was so interesting! Keep making these videos!
They diagnosed me as burnished winter. Sephora diagnosed me as summer. I always look amazing in grey. Which is soft summer .
Hi. If you look better in grey than in black, then most likely you're a summer.
Grey is also in the winter color palette.
That lipstick is stunning on you!
Fascinating, I have no idea how I ended up watching this video, but your passion is inspirational.
I love that! Thank you for sharing your experience. I really love that their system is consistent across consultants.
Yes please, I am very interested in more videos stemming from your color analysis.
May I ask how much you paid? On the website it only list UKs prices and I’m in the US
When you said “I’m not wearing any foundation” 😮 your skin looks so flawless!!!!
I wish you had filmed the analysis with the consultant or snippets of it!
I was wearing the wrong undertone for my skin tone. I thought I was warm but in fact olive. Which put me in deep winter when all along I thought I was a deep autumn.
Totally down to have a ton of color videos!!
@@irairod5160 olive is not an undertone but an overtone. Virtually no one is fully neutral most people lean one way or the other.
This was the most honest and informative I have ever seen. Thanks so much..
That’s brilliant I can see straight away that I am warm undertones and between bright and muted a light Spring
How cool! It really is incredible when you see it yourself!
I am deeply fascinated. No wonder you may find yourself gravitating towards some of the saturated autumn colors. You seem to be what some analysts call "deep".
That green is stunning on you!
This is fascinating. Thanks for sharing. :) I would be interested in seeing more on the subject.
i haven't heard anyone told black doesn't look good.. . i've seen a few analysts tell clients that navies/browns would be a flattering alternative, but most understand people who live in dirty cities, or men in corporate careers, etc, WILL be wearing black (if for no other reason than simple practicality/necessity).. . i think the point is to know the best colors that can be introduced with it in shirts/blouses/ties/scarves/etc, and then when the time comes to add new staple pieces (like suits) then they can consider trying other neutrals like greys/navies/camels/etc, but i think any analyst with experience knows the average person can't/won't be running out and purchasing a whole new wardrobe based on that day's consultation.
Yes! Would love to see videos on color analysis stuff. I have always loved your capsule color pallets and it would be interesting to see how you incorporate cool winter colors into future capsules! Love your channel :)
Best video about this topic- well done 👏 👌
And very fair skin. It’s definitely all about value. I’d love a video on colour value because I don’t really understand it.
Awesome! Do you still practice as a consultant? It sounds like you don't anymore?
I did a colour analysis when i was in my early 20’s and found i was a spring, which was the colours i had been drawn to anyway, it helped me to understand the difference of the gold based shades to pick and what didn’t work on me. I recently went through all my clothes and divided all my clothes into the 4 seasons of capsule wardrobes and got rid of what i wasn’t comfortable in or wrong colour and was excited to look at each one and how many outfits i now have to wear that are new. 😁again thankyou i just love your videos
Oh wow! What a great thing to have done early in life! I wish I had done this 10 years ago, it would have saved me so much money!
would like to see what your new colour will bring in your closet
I'm SO EXCITED to make these videos. I can already see it changing a lot, if only in theory.
You are somewhat olive too, you may be a cool olive, which is really tricky to color match.
Hi Mary! Welcome! I highly recommend it, and the good part about it is that it's a one time investment, and then you have the knowledge for life!
Thank you.
Wow, your skin looks amazing and the makeup is great.
So interesting 🤗🤗🤗😘
I’m a calm autumn in their system by the way 😉
YES TO THIS!!! Did you separate your wardrobe by great vs. not so great colors? I have yet to do that, but I agree that it's much easier to get rid of a LOT of stuff now! And I don't even have that much to get rid of!
What’s a calm autumn? What system is that?
@@vazq_Fernanda kind of…. I only kept “my colors” except for one pair of black jeans. All the tops that’s not my colors, I’ve given away. And I feel so much better. It’s like people look at me and not my outfit so much anymore, other than they compliment me more 🤗 The sorting part, was easy for me.
@@elizabethdavis1696 the system I used is color guru.
They have four season types and in each category there are 3 different color types 😉
@@miahansen9986 Yes, this is exactly it. If people compliment the color, usually it's because it's off. But if people say YOU look great - bingo!
I could diffently relate to you, for example the color green you're now wearing looks amazing on me.
This makes me want to get a color analysis for myself 😍 that top looks stunning on you
interesting video.
Oooh tell me more about the body type analysis! What did it entail?
I really think this experience was a game changer for me. It had such a profound impact, I want everyone to experience it!
Would love to see more videos on color seasons.
