Angelina's breath control is other worldly. You can listen to her sing and then for fun just listen to her breath as she sings. She never saves any breath, she uses every ounce. She surfs her breath with the notes.
Just in case you don't know, the reason Angelina said she's proud to be apart of the asian community is because her grandfather was Japanese. So she has Asian bllood
She is 1/4 western Asian (Iranian) and 1/4 eastern Asian (Japanese). So she is 1/2 Asian.
At her last concert on July 10th 2022 in Norway, when Angelina told why she sings this song and dedicated it to her grandmother Mery Zamani (her grandma was sick and couldn't accompany Angelina on the trip to Norway and both were very sad), I understand this song completely differently whenever I hear the line "Don't you dare walk away from me". 👣💯 *AJ* 💯 👣
Angelina changed the song on stage because she had a Cold and she couldn't hit the final high notes, so she sang around the problems... also in the black and white video Whitney was 29yo when she sang and AJ was 16yo !! she Is such a Talent. Angelina sang at the show because she is A Quarter Japanese and A Quarter Iranian on her mothers side .
What astounds me about Angelina's voice is that she still has 10 years before her voice is fully developed!!! Ten years from now, when her voice is at its peak, I'd love to hear her sing Shield, Feeling Good, Summertime and At Last. I just love her voice!!!

You can tell she is suffering the effects of a cold in her speaking voice , but the more i listen to this performance the more i appreciate it , its so good .❤

I was in exactly the same situation until…
… September 22, 2023! I had the unbelievably good fortune to attend the Portsmouth concert. It was on my bucket list too but to be honest, it is impossible to remove it from my list with just one performance. It’s still on my list. Although Vegas didn’t work for me this time, I am definitely going to see her again and again if I am lucky. Seeing Angelina live is a dream come true… but be forewarned. It’s very addictive.

At the Asian Gala, Angelina had a cold, and cut the song short of the last modulation. Her live performance in Norway was the equal if not superior to her studio video. Her performance in Portsmouth was the best that I heard in my opinion. She really let loose with some improvised runs that really gave me goosebumps. ❤
Had a bad cold and didn’t want her to come. The doctor said no as in sweetie when she did that Swedish performance to raise money for children in Sweden and dear.

From my understanding Angelina had a bad cold during this performance and just couldn't give this song everything it deserves, with that being said, in my opinion, her best performance of this song live or otherwise, is her performance live in Norway while Wearing the Blue dress, absolutely Amazing, you have to check it out and should do a Reaction for us Angels 😊

It is her grandmother's artwork on the big screen behind her at the gala. It is also the print on her pantsuit, which she is wearing and also which she sells in her merch store.
The outfit also has the same design as the one she wore on America's Got Talent The Champions when she was 13. Designed by Angelina and her grandmother.

Dang! I got goosebumps, and there is only one other singer alive right now that gives me goosebumps. This young woman is such a tremendous talent. I think that the most amazing part of her vocals is the emotion that she is able to bring to the songs that she sings. She lives those songs.

Narges is an Iranian woman Imprisoned 9 years ago for advocating woman’s rights in Iran. Her kids have not seen their mum since..she chose to sing Unchained Melody which is about a guy imprisoned and wishing to meet his family again. It’s as though Angelina became a vessel though which Narges spoke to her twins ..the words to the song are just utterly perfect. “Wait for me, I’m coming home”

AngelinA had a coldand had came straight in on a flight and had jet lag.She knew she was not going to be able to finish the last run so she cut it short. It was the last song she sang and you can here the extra raspiness in her voice.But still beautiful

Awesome performance from our musical genius, I’m so excited to attend Angelina’s concert in Vegas , I’m travelling from the United Kingdom to attend the concert, this is my fourth time I have seen Angelina live, twice in her home country Norway, and last year in Portsmouth USA, Angelina’s stage presence is incredible her live vocals phenomenal, she is my favourite artist ever, once in a generation talent, great reaction thanks!
The live version from the Gala is not the best one as she was ill after the trip and you can hear it in her speaking voice. Still apart from the shortened end she did a great job. Thanks for your nice reactions.
Great reaction GINX, I loved the impromptu addition of the live version at the Gala, even though she had a bad cold. I see others have given you links to other live versions, but you might want to check out another version, on your own, not for a reaction. Jonathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett, who was Michael Jacksons drummer for 30 years, came to Republic Records to meet Angelina. She sang an "off the cuff" version of this song for him while sitting in the lotus position. Vocal coaches say that you loose about 30% of your vocal power when singing while sitting. Everyone sings this standing up in order to squeeze out every last bit of power they can muster. She just sits there & blows Jonathan's socks off while he listens in awe. Just watch the reaction of the crowd at the 20 Unforgettable Gala, Angelina paternal grandfather was Japanese. Some of the people who attended this gala stated that Angelina's performance was the highlight of the night. I have watched this performance more that 50 times and each, and I know what is coming, time I cry, I get goose bumps, and lose my breath, there is no one to compare to her on earth.
Experiencing you wearing your heart on your sleeve and not apologising for it, whilst reacting to Angelina was wonderfully refreshing, because I was touched by both your authentic energies.

Gina, can't blame you for wanting to listen to two versions. Angelina at her last concert in Norway 2022, dedicated this song to her grandmother Mery, who was unable to make the trip to Norway due to health concerns. Now every time I hear Angelina sing this great song, I get much more emotional than before that dedication.

This was again directed by Cole McCarthy in BW ("Easy on Me") and filmed in the same antique shop as "My Funny Valentine" and "Suspicious Minds".

This version, when she was 13 is pretty impressive too, since she sang it in Whitney's key. Almost ear shattering though.

Angelina is such an amazing singer.... One reactor once was thinking Angeline wasn't a singer who could belt a lot. The next song he reacted on was "It's a man's world" Angelina performed when she was 12 with the staff brassband from the Norwegian army. Well: watch/listen to that one, when you would like to learn how to belt from a 12 years old. Maybe not the best audio, but impressive stuff never the less. And she does it with so much ease....

After listening to the complete rehearsal for AJ's rendition of Unchained Melody, and then the finished product, you have an idea of what a good sound engineer can do for the artist. The final product of this recording is a testament to the skill of the sound engineer, who balanced the vocals and the orchestra perfectly. Wonderful video and I'm glad you had a chance to listen to a live version as well. When an artist can so beautifully reproduce what they do in the studio, it's a special thing. Angelina has several advantages when it comes to breath and singing. Since she literally been singing just as long as she has been talking she has developed superior breath control. Add her 6 foot tall figure with bigger lungs. Angelina also has a slightly large throat anatomy, specifically the larynx, I believe. You can HEAR her breaths she takes in if you listen to it.
Here at the Galla just to let you know Angelina held back due to being a little under the weather. So thats stuffy Angelina live. I suggest hearing the live from Norway which came out a week before the black and white video, same baby blue gown.
Try out "I'm still holding out for you". Probably in my top 3 of her performances.

Angelina Jordan has a bill bill out to Harol or Billie Holiday. They were looking at a song and they would change it or change the word or change the rhythm that’s what Angelina does. He changes the word how she sang it and some of that Norwegian alphabet that she has a little different pronunciation but it’s still fantastically good to speak four languages so you know sometimes that comes out, it’s very unique

Whitney Houston died six years before Angelina was born but she saw it on TH-cam and she had to make a tribute to her and then from then on she loved Whitney. Of course she six years later she found so Angelina is very compassionate about different singers and wouldn’t hear of her favorite Billy Hollie was the number one singer Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Betsy Smith all these people that have been dead for years, but that’s who she chose to hang out and hope

This is my 166th time listening to this MASTERPIECE and each time I experience a new level of perfection by our ethereal prodigy extraordinaire, Angelina Jordan.
When you listen to the A cappella portions of this performance at the very end of the song you are truly experiencing the genius of Angelina Jordan’s PERFECT PITCH. Sinatra, rest in peace Angelina Jordan, the Bare Foot Queen has taken the crown and there is nothing like her in the universe. When I first heard her perform this. I put it on pause and brought up Sinatra, Bublé, Streisand, Fitzgerald and Vaughan's version of this song to compare it to AJ version, and none of them moved me like this version. It is so hard to comprehend that Angelina from 7 to 16 is the greatest story telling being in my 76 years of experiencing great vocalist and I can't wait for the rest of the story. We are not only hearing it, but we are also feeling each word as though she were singing to each of us individually. She is the only one in this universe that is capable of making us feel the true emotion of this ballad. There is no way to explain this gift that has been given to the universe, does she even know, or understand the power she encompasses? © Larry D. Pifer
Thank you so much Gina for the Double Angelina vocal beauty. In the second one if you listen to her talk you can tell she has a bit of a cold so she did have to pull back a bit at the Gala. Angelina's grandfather was Japanese, hence her invite to the Asian Gala event. Subtle changes depending on how she feels.
I've been a huge fan of AJ for half a decade now, and I've seen her perform this song many times. Every time, she puts her own spin on it, making subtle changes depending on how she feels. It's amazing how she can make each version so fresh and unique, and far superior to anyone else who ever tried to cover it. How does she do it? © Larry D. Pifer
So could you tell the difference between the studio version and the live version? I would think not because she never needs auto tune, she doesn’t need to have mistakes “fixed,” she has perfect pitch, etc., etc., etc. These people love her so much because she has lived in Japan, speaks Japanese, and is part Japanese as her maternal grandfather was Japanese. There is a very beautiful song on YT of her singing in a concert in Japan. She sings the whole song in Japanese, and even though I don’t understand one word, it still was very emotional. She was younger than here, of course, but her performance was excellent as always. Be sure to watch it sometime. BTW, you have a very beautiful smile, and I saw a dimple or two tonight!
The differences in the performances are not in regard to production but in regard to the choices she makes with phrasing and runs. I didn’t even know she was sick in the live performance, but I knew she would make different choices based on the environment and audience🙂
