As for that sentence "het dikke over Shakespeare en dat dunne over de oorlog", I was puzzling a bit because even in Dutch it's not the most clear, but if it's a continuation about the previous question what books you bought, it'd mean something like "the thick one [is] about Shakespeare and that thin one about the war."
