When my kids were young we had next to no money. I was home with them and able to wash clothing often. Almost all their clothing came from consignment stores or were gifts from relatives. They had 5-7 outfits each. I loved it!!!! It wasn’t until they were older and we had a little more income that stuff started to accumulate. I feel like I’m constantly picking up, putting away, washing. I think it may be time to reevaluate, I’m exhausted and overwhelmed.

This is inspiring, with the addition of baby number four I definitely find myself needing/wanting less clothing per kid. Truly it’s just too easy to have an abundance when everything is so cute but in reality they only ever wear their favorites ☺️

This is inspiring! Everyone these days is overloaded in every way and life seems so chaotic for most people. You should do more videos just like this! Toy clutter, kitchen clutter, keeping homeschool simple. 🥰

We currently live in our 32’ motorhome after selling our 4,000 sqf 5 bed 5 bath home and I can say that this system def works for our family of 6! Before we sold our home I would keep all the hand-me-downs we received from friends and hang them at the top of the kids closets because we had such high ceilings but even still they would manage to get down all the clothes and it just got out of control all of the time. Now that we’ve downsized so much everything fits in a tiny tiny space and it is so much simpler. I’ll never go back to having more clothes even when we buy a house.

Love hearing how others manage their kids clothes. I’m a little more generous and allow about 7-10 outfits each (I only have two littles so far and don’t do laundry quite so often). But I’m super picky with their clothes. I dislike hand me downs because I can’t stand graphic tshirts, frills, buttons, glitter, bright crazy colors, unicorns etc haha and that is what everyone seems to buy. But we have an awesome children’s consignment store near us where I get pretty much everything for them much cheaper than new.

Hand me down clothes are such a blessing. I, like you, have rarely had to even buy my kids much. Mama's with kids who have clothes they have outgrown, before you drop off a batch of clothes to Goodwill think of friends in your life that have kids smaller than yours. You could be a huge blessing to another family by sharing your kid's clothes. When I do buy my kids clothing, I try to buy most of it second hand at consignment sales.

This is such a great idea for minimizing kids clothes and helping to stay organized. I've often wondered if my 8 year old has so much trouble with getting dressed in the morning because he has too many options. I am going to do this with all 3 of my kids. A great way to save time, money and less laundry to fold/store! Thank you for sharing!

I do exactly the same except I have 4 play outfits and 2 fancier outfits plus a jumper in each category because we live in the UK. My kids go to school though so I have 3 uniforms each. When it's school term I take the other stuff to 2 play and 2 fancy outfits and it's either summer or winter appropriate. Then school coat and shoes pe kit and shoes and they all have trainers and crocs or wellies, hats, gloves, swimsuit. Towel and backpack and snow jacket and pants each. Even being very minimal, if you have a load of kids, that's a lot of clothes. This for my youngest 4, the older 5 are responsible for their own amount (as they earn and some buy more than I would) and they sort their laundry themselves (well, mostly) lol. You have it organised perfectly. Well done mama. X

Your system sounds quite doable for your family especially since you homeschool. Kids that go to school every day, however, will most likely need additional clothing. In some cases this could be a uniform or specific colors in the school’s dress code. In this case would you have them wear the same outfit for play after school like you do for church clothes? For me, I know my kids would have a tendency to get rips and/or stains which would make those clothes unfit for school.
I realize you can only speak for your own family and what works for you. Families with other obligations or activities can still follow your guidelines as far as paring down the number of items of clothing, but just make whatever modifications are needed. Thanks for the suggestions. I look forward to seeing how you switch for a new season.

I wish I could do this. I have two kids “ 3 year old little boy and a two month old little girl ”. The amount of gifts and hand me downs we receive from family is a lot. I would feel bad not using the clothes gifted to us. My husband is number 7 of 8 siblings so you can see how this would happen and my two are the first grandchildren on my side. We are very blessed! I just get overwhelmed with clutter. Especially toys! Any tips for you organization would be great!
