    i have been using this for like 3 months and its so much better than bitwarden and the syncs between devices are lightning quick

      I've been manually backing my passwords to Bitwarden and will later do it for KeePass. So glad to hear this, since Bitwarden's android app fcking SUCKS. It's so slow, the buttons don't even work so you can't even save ANYTHING on the phone. It's completely unusable. On Windows it's rather limiting and doesn't even have a dedicated space for email input, just for username and password. It's so tarded.
      KeePass looks like the way to go.

    Dude, this video just saved me money and improved my security. I was going to sign up for an online service because I didn't think the open source stuff worked across platforms. Now that I know I can use KeePassXC everywhere and keep it synced that's what I'll be doing.

    i honestly believe syncthing may have just made my file syncing between pc and phone like a billion times easier. Thanks A LOT!

    Thank you for your video which explains a complete use case. This is what is missing for new users in the KeePass ecosystem ;) There are many different methods, so the important thing is to have full visibility on the tools used so using end-to-end open source applications is a very good thing! :)

    Thanks so much for a thorough look into automatically syncing KeePass between platforms. Personally I use KeePassDroid on my phone rather than KeePassDX, but Syncthing works just as well with it. Just as an FYI the Android Syncthing app has a setting to run it as a service, which means it will auto start and run in the background on your phone... so you don't need to run it manually when you restart.

    Thank you. 👏 My first try at setting up a decent password manager for my phone and PC. Was hard work following the whole process step by step but I managed to get it all working perfectly so I'm over the moon with the result. Really well made and comprehensive video!

    I don't even know how did I get here but I've done it and it's a relief since I know it's permanent and it can't be strip from me tbh, also learned how to use syncthing in the process which seems ridiculously useful, thank you for taking the time to do it

    Tip for making Syncthing start up with windows:
    Hit windows key + r and type shell:startup
    Your file explorer should open to a specific location (the location the video mentions...), now simply drag and drop the syncthing exe with your RIGHT mouse button to that explorer, it should bring up the context menu. Simply click create shortcut here and you're done. Syncthing will start with windows.
    By the way: this works for any program.

    Great video! I use Nextcloud to keep my password database sync'd between PCs. On my Android tablet and phone I use Keepass2 Android which uses the built-in WebDAV to sync with Nextcloud directly. I don't need SyncThing for this.

    Great video 👍 , But wanted to know about how well secure are the global discovery and relay servers. Couldn't exactly understand their working . Is TLS used and can the servers see data .
    Maybe you could also explain exactly how the exchange takes place , coz i am not sure of how my data is being synchronized over the internet.
    Coz then maybe we also need to add folder passwords which for which their is an option.
    Let me know would be helpful 😄

      That alone is not fool proof (personal sad experience flashback 😪), but the new keepass versions have a compare and merge function activated by default. So every time the keepass vault is unlocked it compares the new version with the one it saved last time, and merges them, if differences occur.

    You can also add in "Patterns and ignore" the following command 'ignoreDelete=true' to avoid losing the files, the only way to stop receiving it is to disconnect

    How does Keypass fare up against Bitwarden?

    • @TroubleChute
      @TroubleChute  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well, a simple Google shows that Bitwarden has plans. $10/yr and you get access to "advanced features" like 2FA -- Which you have here...

    • @locbac
      @locbac 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like keepass since it's all your own data, though it does make for a pain if you have windows and ios since the only option most times is to use dropbox for hosting it. I use bitwarden since it's all automatic and the free plan is generous, I use other things for 2fa since I don't have many accounts which need 2fa.

    • @kunzisoft2957
      @kunzisoft2957 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The advantage of KeePass is above all to be able to manage a single file and to do whatever you want with it. Transfer it, copy it, synchronize it wherever you want.
      Bitwarden is interesting if you create your own server. But very few people do it, otherwise how do you know that Bitwarden servers are not hiding something?

    • @locbac
      @locbac 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kunzisoft2957 I mean they’re a somewhat small company, they don’t have much reason to sell data or look through your passwords. Though KeePass is better if you’re paranoid about this.

    • @kunzisoft2957
      @kunzisoft2957 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@locbac I don't think the size of a company indicates its philosophy. I think Bitwarden has good intentions because it provides open source code, which is a very good thing, and there should be many more companies with that line of thinking. But there's nothing to stop a private company from being bought out and monitoring server connections afterwards. So I don't think that paranoia about passwords is something that is unnecessary. And again, I'm not saying it's a bad solution, on the contrary, so I'm just throwing out a warning for people to understand what's at stake and choose the best tools for their use. You always have to choose between security and ease of use ;)
