    I think Aneesa, the creator of this series, mentioned at some point that the stuff about idols having to follow the plans of their companies, she deliberately showed clips of BTS in the background writing lyrics and doing stuff that shows it wasn’t like that for them. That they had more freedom than was typical for an idol group and thus they were an outlier in the industry.

    • @k0aie18
      @k0aie18 ปีที่แล้ว +124

      Yes, you are right...this is the answer to CCW's inquiry..a lot of idols from different companies have these rules to follow and although BTS also have to follow some rules they have more freedom than other idols and it isn't as strict as others coz they are the ones who write their own music and helps with the production unlike most idols can't.

      This! It might not be as clear to some viewers but I think it's the general style in other TROB videos too. The juxtaposition of what people think vs what BTS actually does. It really highlights how unique BTS is.

    V’s parents used to make an 8 hour round trip to see him for an hour at weekends, and he used to cry when they left. He was so tired once that he called his dad and said he wanted to quit. His dad said that if it was too much for him then he could quit and that there were lots of other jobs in the world and he would help him to find something else. His father was the opposite of a stage dad. V felt bad for complaining and carried on.

    Y'all have to keep in mind guys what Bang PD said from the start that he didn't impose anything on our boys, as long as they abide by his requirement that their music must contain their inner selves.
    This episode showed that even though Big Hit had several rules, ofc that's inevitable being in the industry, BTS was not treated like the way other idols of other agencies.
    See they even have their Bangtan bombs, where they show more of themselves behind official cameras. Those are things idols didn't do, as the stereotype of being an idol is being perfect. So they don't release behind the cam attitudes. They aren't as transparent as our boys when it comes to real emotions, chaotic manners, etc.
    BTS also use their phones, go out when they like. They post in their official accounts, unlike others who had managers that take care of their socmed. BTS just made some rules like no posting on socmed when drunk, etc. So they definitely had freedom, at the same time, fighting the "standard way" of training and managing idols.

      There were still a few times where they got drunk and posted. So even though they had rules they still had more freedom than others within those boundaries.

    • @skarbuskreska
      @skarbuskreska ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I'd say there was a mix. They had to hide their ice they just bought when the manager caught them in front of the dorm, later told how they hated chicken breast because it was the only thing they got. So there was dieting. They also have a story line, and since they sometimes said when asked that they are curious themsleves how it will continue, it means yes they wrote most of their music and lyrics as we obviously know by credits, but there was still a guiding influence.
      I mean when V said i this episode here I wish there were no rules, he basically said there are rules, because otherwise he would have said we have none.
      And I'm not critizcizing them, in an environment in SK like they are in, going full free mode is hardly possible if you want to stay where you are and not being canceled. It's walking a thin line between following the rules and breaking them slowly.

    • @mydogblowsbubbles
      @mydogblowsbubbles ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Also they were teenagers during the early days, so probably needed some rules, like curfews etc. Similar to parents of teenagers set some rules.

    • @fae-armyxbangtan613
      @fae-armyxbangtan613 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yes exactly, and that’s why now you can see how the industry uses BTS and what they have done as an example. Like Bangtan bombs/ behind the scenes. Idols only do this now because BTS did it first. Our boys chose to be their real selves from the beginning and BH encouraged and supported that. Of course they had rules, but it’s like any work environment. We don’t go into work expecting that we can do whatever the hell we want. There are rules in any organisation/ workplace. But the difference is how you treat your employees and we know the BH and BTS are a family. I only say this because I choose to listen to what the boys say and I stand behind them. I don’t want to make any assumptions or false narratives because it’s not my place to, and all 7 have said multiple times that they’re happy they chose BH who gave them the freedom to explore their music

    Everyone should know that Aneesa’s first purpose in creating this series was to change people’s perspective on kpop and not necessarily on BTS, She used the BTS story because it was a guarantee of success of the series and they are especially completely different.
    This episode is the one I like the least because the editing is very confusing with some passages used out of context (For example, when RM says "Yeah it’s suffocating", it talks about hateful comments and not company rules), when it shows this former trainee explaining that he gave up because of too many rules, she forgets to show that at the time they were mostly minors and that it was quite normal that they were not allowed to go out as they saw fit since they were entrusted by their parents to the company just as you will entrust your minor children to a boarding school.... Also, this passage where JHope cries in front of his father’s speech has absolutely nothing to do with pressure or fatigue, it was a surprise for his birthday and what made him cry was of course that he missed his family but especially that it was the first time that he heard his father tell him that he was proud of him and his journey, that he blessed him and wished him all the success, knowing that he had previously opposed JHope’s career choice and that little Jhope was sneaking out early in the morning to learn to dance before going to school. - to recall that his father was a literature teacher and that his mother was the only one to have supported JHope -, hence the fact that the whole team cried with him because they knew his story, nothing to do with the pressure.... Suga expressed his difficult mental situation because he was already prone to depression and anxiety, and that at that time they were really struggling financially knowing that it was out of the question for him to go back to his parents who also completely opposed his career.
    I regret that Aneesa created this confusion in this episode using personal moments of BTS to support a narrative about the kpop industry... I had the opportunity to speak with her and she acknowledged that it was a personal narrative for her to know that she is a fan of kpop and not just BTS, This explains the fact that it highlights the attacks of the HipHop and western sides against BTS but completely avoided mentioning the attacks of the Kpop industry intentionally and which were not at all soft or welcoming towards BTS.
    So just be careful with the editing of the images and do your analysis based on the full context and original contents that I hope you will discover as you go along.. Thanks for the reaction.

      @@fae-armyxbangtan613 Thank you even if my english is not eloquent... Even before the 1st episode I was hyped by the series believing it will be totally honest coz I saw the teaser both on youtube and tiktok, but then she posted an introduction letter explaining the purpose of highlighting kpop through BTS, and even after that I gave her the benefit of doubt, but after the 4th episode, with some ARMYs, we had an exchange with her through her comments, asking her why she's implying sometimes that BTS was mistreated by BH and why she's avoiding talking on BTS's struggles with the kpop industry, in contrary she was using them to promote some of her other favs (like BB, Exo or Shinee..), We even said to her that BH are one of the very few companies that doesn't use slave contracts... Do you know what she replied "Oooh where did you read that BH doesn't use slave contracts??? I want to use that info"... Like dude there is a whole wikipedia page just about slave contracts with the list of all companies using them and BH aren't among them, and she said that sometimes BTS say something than later they contradict themselves and she gave as exemple when JHope said he was tired in the MV shooting than when asked he said no I'm not, or when Jimin was talking about his diet... She even claimed that she will not accept anyone saying BTS is the best... But even if you want to talk about kpop, ok but at least don't use their moments out of context and tell everything... If you want kpop to change and improve you have to tell everything like the way the Big3 and their groups abuse of their power and mistreat those from small companies.
      So I did my searchs and found out she was a whole kpoppie, never vote or celebrate with us on her twitter, rather celebrate her subs and even complained when we were pushing ARMY to buy Butter to keep the n°1, and I have a lot of receipts about those exchanges.. And than when BTS announced their upcoming documentary about their story on Disney+ (Btw I'm so excited for it), she was upset about it and said she worked hard on her series just for BTS to release theirs... Like girl we thought you did those coz you love them not coz you were expecting something, so everyone exposed her... And as you saw she deleted the series recently, we hope there is nothing sus about it, like selling it or releasing something else about other groups.

      wow thank you so much for putting this so well!! you're amazing with words!! also i always wondered why she didn't put bts hardships that came from the kpop industry, the entertainment companies and the koreans themselves till i found out few months ago that she is a multi kpop stan herself, so know it makes more sense that she didn't want to put these in the documentary, which is kinda unfortunate because it plays a major part in bts' history!! i hope someday armys make a documentary with all little details from their hardships to success, basically telling everything that's needed for new fans!!

      @@yasminesb7947 hey lovely, yeah I have to agree. I too had a discussion with her and I was soo disappointed when I realised where her standpoint was. I never publicly said anything about her but I always reminded everyone to take the series with a grain of salt and also to do their own research because she’s focusing on kpop as a whole and using BTS as the example. She never highlights the struggles caused by other groups, their fandom and the Big3. Also, the way she’s portraying that “this is how kpop is and this is how BTS are different” is so poorly executed and not explained because new fans don’t understand and therefore can’t differentiate which is not their fault. Omg don’t get me started on the whole Disney + situation. BH and the boys have literally been putting out documentaries and documenting their whole journey, and she was upset and made a whole scene. I found it so disrespectful and entitled. The whole thing with Disney must have been in motion for a long time and she’s acting like they are “copying” her hard work and effort?

    Guys while watching this series yall should always remember that it is trying to show how BTS is different from the groups from other companies bcoz even though there were some strict rules for them to follow they were always given the artistic freedom to create their own sound in music. In most of the clips shown in this series, the people talking over the clips basically are saying the things that contradicts the clip itself to kind of portray the difference. For example in the part where the person talking behind says that idols donot write their own lyrics we are shown suga nd RM writing lyrics nd working on the song. Btw loved the reaction.💜💜

Probably bec he’s the youngest? Anyway, Jin would often raid his mom’s pantry for stuff to bring back to the dorms as the guys had very little money back then. He even takes her pots and pans. 😁 They had blogs back then with details like pots sponsored by mom, beef sponsored by mom, etc. 😆 I think their past hardships made them become closer and stronger as a group.

    RM wasn't sick at the time, that was actually his true voice. I was surprised to hear it for the first time too lol. His natural voice is very deep so he chooses to pitch it higher so that people will hear him more clearly and won't ask him to repeat things. I suppose it's happened enough times that he decided that worked better but I think his natural voice is really nice too. It must be tiring to have to alter your voice when you need to speak and you're the leader who is expected to speak the most generally. They all work so hard at their different roles.

    At this point of their story Jungkook was 15, Jimin and V 17, j-hope and RM 18, Suga 19 and Jin 20 in international age. They’d been training for 3 years and then debuted for a year by the end of this episode: they got some odd days off here and there but no official holidays until 2019 when they got a month off. RM just spoke about this in an interview in Spain (El Pais periódico) saying how people look down on their work ethic as unhealthy but as SK was so poor within their grandparents generation it’s still part of the culture to absolutely hustle. 💜💜 Korea is quite small, it’s about 300km or 190 miles from Seoul to Daegu where Suga and V come from and another 60 or so miles from there to Busan where Jungkook and Jimin come from and those are the farthest away. So their parents could drive or take a train to visit them in about 3 hours. They were so busy tho, putting out 2-3 albums per year plus tours and tv appearances, you can imagine they didn’t have much time. I’m so glad Jungkook at least is taking time off right now to just do what he wants, which is working out, hanging with Bam, meeting up with friends and coming on lives with a beer to sing for us. He hasn’t had that opportunity in over 12 years, his entire adolescence and 20s, so before he enters the military I’m so in favour of him or all of them taking some time. J-hope was live the other day saying he’s got a date for enlistment now, and Bang PD went on record saying the schedule isn’t going as they’d have hoped so it might not be possible to come back in 2025 which leads me to believe they’re dragging it out which must be so frustrating but all this will hopefully make their desire to come back together and create great material out of the struggle stronger when they’ve had enough rest. They deserve it… ❤❤

      Actually I saw that interview of Bang PD about that not possible comeback in 2025, idk what are the confusions it resulted bcoz from my understanding since they announced they will fulfill their service, they clearly states there that they (BTS members&BH) are hoping to reconvene by 2025 meaning they will all try to finish their service by that time(it depends also in the military service given to each member) but the said "comeback" obviously/as a matter of fact/of course will/may not happen that year. They need to plan and organize their comeback as a group first so that will takes time, of course they will be out from military service, a well deserved rest also needs to consider that's why the definite timeline for their return as 7 takes time too. Jin will be the first member to be discharged so by that time being he will also explore his solo career while waiting for each member to finish, each of them may do that too.

    Little (his)story of Bangtan and i11evn. (the guy who talk about rules) : Bangtan was originally abbreviated as B.P.B which came from their English name, “Bullet Proof Boys” (No boy scouts at this point). There were about 30 trainees for Bangtan but the official line up was: Namjoon, Iron, Shin Donghyuck (Supreme Boi), Choi Ikje (i11evn). Yoongi, Hoseok, and someone named Park Yeong-man. Ikje aka i11evn was the one who win the rapp battle against Yoongi at the first Hit It audition. He, Iron and RM, who was known under the name of Runch Randa, were part of a hip hop underground crew named Daenamhyup,. You can see Rm talk with them in this episode. . Something happened in 2011, the project was changed, turning the hip hop crew in hip hop idol group. The name has changed from BPB to BTS , The line up was redone. Iron , i11evn and others left the project and Big Hit. Supreme Boi left the group but stay in the compagnie as producer. It seems that i11evn and others underground friends were not very kind or friendly toward RM since he choose the path of becoming Idol.
    For the rules in the Kpop industry, Big Hit have some too, of course. Specially for the trainees, because they were all underage exept Jin (who never follow the rules Lol ) but less than in the other compagnies. Some hints in this série are really subtle, so maybe you failed to noticed them : when it is said idols don't have a lot of creative freedom, you see Namjoon and Yoongi writing lyrics/when it says idols have phone bans , you see the BTS members on their phones/when idols say they aren't allowed to go outside the dorm, you see Yoongi walking around freely. For the beauty aspect : Bang PD choose the boys for their talents and raw potential, not for their face . Exept Jin, none of them fit the very strict "k pop male beauty standards" , that's why anti attack them so badly for being "ugly (!) or "not a idol face", specially RM and J hope, but also Jimin who suffer from bodyshaming because he was cheeky and not thin enough, poor angel. As they grew, some behavior rules vanished in the air (they got tattoo and piercing, drink on Vlive the Weverse, curse on stage sometimes, made fun of their CEO ...but they still are gentle, respectful, polite and well manered ! ) Bang Si-Hyuk , when he created Big Hit, openly stated he didn't like the system that the Idol industry had created and he wanted to do better. No phone ban, no weight quota, no forced amount of practice (but we all know that BTS dédication for their craft and fan is crazy), and of course, creative freedom others group don't have. Not only to write their lyrics within BTS, but also to have their own mixtapes without BTS. Even now, just a few amount of Idol group write their own lyrics, and none of them talk about issues or topic as BTS have done (mental health, school pressure, disparity in societal classes etc)

    Namjoon's voice is actually a lot deeper than what you normally hear! He pitches it up because it can be hard to understand what he's saying, and I guess that makes sense for settings like the UN or the BBMAs or anywhere where hearing what they're saying is important. I just personally can't imagine changing my voice every time I'm not at home, but then again, I think he's probably used to it now after all of these years. We actually know a lot about their parents. The boys have spoken about them A LOT. Jungkook has even told us about his parents' love story 🤣; how his mom is older than his dad and that she hit on him first, lol. There are many pictures of them. RM posted photos of him with his dad and sister just a few days back. Jin's, Yoongi's and Jk's brothers' accounts have many army followers. Hobi's sister has a youtube channel with millions of followers and she runs a fashion brand. We've gotten sooo much sibling content from them as well! They actually talked about their family a lot like in behind the scenes of shootings, vlives/Welives, In the Soop or Bon Voyage episodes.😁
    Honestly I’ve been an Army for 4 years now.. these boys really put me in a lot of roller coaster of emotions for 4 years. I love them so much, their personalities are so different but all of them are so lovable, humble, passionate and respectful. I learned so much from them even if they are so much younger than me. They taught me so much about team building and relationships in general (their brotherhood, friendships and relationships with their family). When they are happy I’m so happy and when they are sad and cry I cried with them too.🥹💜

    - the guy they showed who said he used to be training with BTS but decided to leave bc of the rules is the one who got first place in Hit It Rap Audition. (ik y’all were wondering about this whenever they mention Suga won 2nd place)
    - That was Jungkook high school ENTRANCE ceremony, not graduation.

    Jimin just dropped set me free pt 2 mv please check it out, it’s a masterpiece. Also namjoon collabed with an artist for smoke sprite, you should check that out too. I also think you should react to more bts live performances, you will learn more about the members from that. Also about what you said about why bts don’t talk about their family members, im pretty sure they do that on purpose, even in jhopes lollapalooza documentary, jhope wouldn’t show his family members faces. I’m pretty sure this is done on purpose because bts want to have some sort of privacy, they don’t want their family in the spotlight, it’s to protect them and their privacy. If people see their family members, they will try to find their social medias and find info that the family doesn’t feel comfortable sharing. There are people that found Jin’s brothers social media and post updates about Jin’s family, it’s weird and invasive so I think the best thing to do is for bts not to show us their family members

    These things are in multiple BTS clips and videos..So maybe you all missed it..All the parents are the parents of whole BTS..

    If I remember right, the first official vacation BTS took was in 2015, and it was just 3 days off and some of them went to their hometown even if it was far away from Seoul. I remember for sure Jungkook and Jimin going to Busan (their hometown) together with the train, Jimin even posted a vlog in Busan saying he went all the way there just to see his parents and his little brother and to send off a close friend who enlisted for military service (he's so precious T_T). It was jenuary and they had vacation because for many kpop idols the end of the year is the most chaotic and busy period of the year (there are many award shows all packed together and is really tiryng for them) so BTS probably asked some days off (and I remember we fans worried about the fact that it was just 3 days and they spent them traveling to their hometown, they're so precious T_T). I don't remember if there were other vacation prior to that one, but I don't think so, that's why we say that you can literally count on one hand the amount of times BTS took a REAL break from their schedule. THEY NEEDED REST FOR THE PAST 10+ years and I'm happy they have some time now, even if they're still working on their music they finally took some time for themselves too! I'm so proud of them

    Don't get things mixed up guys, the industry is exactly like the video is showing, to this day. What they're saying is that BESIDES the industry being like this, BTS indeed had more freedom, they could help with the lyrics/prod/mixing/ music wise they were very fast to start helping, and rm and suga since the very beginning. Bang PD gave them more freedom than others companies that's for sure, especially if you start to compare with SM or YG, their groups literally couldn't do anything at all. They got more freedom but they couldn't escape from what it comes with being idols. BTS still followed the rules that every idol had to follow, no dating, no going out, no phones, living with their manager, no freedom for themselves like everyone else basically.

J-hope's sister is actually a youtuber/beauty instagramer, so she has a presence online. Yoongi and his brother once opened a restaurant, so fans did see his brother there for awhile. Jimin has mentioned his brother but very little about him is known. RM has talked about his sister a few times as well, and then there is Jin and his brother. The rap line has a cypher series, complete with cyphers 1-4), was aimed at that specific person who hated on them during that interview earlier in. I love this reaction video. Yes, it was an emotional 🎢. You mentioned “Cypher “. Yes, the Cyphers are there rap line series. Cypher pt 1, Cypher pt 2, Cypher pt 3, Cypher pt 4. My favorite one is Cypher pt3. I also love “ Ugh “. I must warn you tho…. The rap line is raw….in a good way 💜💜💜 Oh please check out Jimin’s : Set Me Free!

    Do you know what makes more endearing about BTS is that they are still the same chaotic, humble and talented people they were.

    BTS acually mention their parents alot. The time when Suga said that his dad had asked him when he was going to get married comes to my mind first 😂
    They have posted pics of them and their families and they have talked about them on showes and lives. Theres even a whole compelation by Sugaarmy (I think) of them calling their parents

    When j hope cried it was a video of his parents not even seeing his parents in person. They mentioned in American hustle life to warren g that they didn’t get to go home in 2-3 years (I can’t remember exact time but it was years). Their families would come visit them whenever they could though

    I do believe that HYBE artists especially bts and some other groups like Seventeen and TXT(boy groups) and also Le sserafim (girl group) are given more freedom when it comes to writing and producing their own songs, they are not afraid of letting their artists express their thoughts through their tracks..

    In the early episodes, it’s also a contrast. It’s like that for idols but not BTS. But BTS also is human and struggles with inspiration too.

    19:46 they did and still do enjoy more freedom than other idol groups. But like what the captions said, the comparison was between idols and underground rappers.

    It helps to note that this video is set up to show lots of contrast. So while it talks about common tendencies in kpop via the audio, the visual side also shows the ways that BTS didn't fit common kpop realities to the same level. The didn't have it as intensely as other groups (in tems of restrictions).
    Like some groups cant snack freely, but you see Suga offering to buy the guys some pizza for their help and they get to buy a bunch of snacks for ARMY while also munching on some too. I think it also highlights that, even with less restrictions, BTS still struggled with writers block. The predictable cycle of idols' daily lives is too much of the same things to inspire anything worth writing. So naturally they struggled to come up with material. I think it's important to note because it shows that it would be even more difficult for other idols with more restrictions to write on their own.
    I suspect it's partially why it's easier to just let idols focus on other aspects in the career while in-house staff does all of the composing, producing, writing, concept planning, etc. I think for idols to be able to write more, companies will have to trust them to make mistakes, live their lives with less restrictions, have more human experiences, try and fail, experiment, etc. BTS got a negative reaction from some people in the early days because they were mostly teenagers who were in the spotlight and not edited in their vlogs so they were given the space to mess up publicly and grow publicly. Many audiences weren''t used to that and still hold past kid mistakes or cringeyness against them because other idols don't get that space to actually show their true selves and grow publicly.
