I'm amazed at how often these very grown-up contestants forget that you may not confer in a starter question. The rules of UC are extraordinarily simple, after all, and have been for decades. Time for a real penalty, I say.
Many thanks DoP! Newman couldn’t rid himself of his embarrassed grin. Such an easy question: A single digit number: The atomic number of Oxygen, the cube root of 512 and the number of planets in the solar system ??? 16?? 9 ??? Wow! I guess everyone was dreaming of Paxman!
Martin Stent I think the 1st person was thinking of the atomic mass of oxygen which was 16, and I think she has a job of weighing molecules or something like that so I could forgive her, I can make that same mistake and took a little while to think of the answer. The second person however... No. I can’t defend her. I guess she forgot that Pluto wasn’t considered a full planet
Pluto not being a planet is still a fairly recent thing. I am under 40 years old and I might still reflexively answer nine, because that's what was drilled into me in school.
Antti Helin true. Still, the cube root of 512 you can tell isn’t 9 since 81 * 9 isn’t ever going to be 512, and the atomic number of oxygen is usually basic chemistry and the only possible mistake you could’ve made was the atomic mass
Thanks, always enjoyed University Challenge ever since the 'Bamber' days. I did find the editing out of some vocals extremely annoying, Ignoring the more general issue of copyright, If ever the is a valid case for 'fair use' this is it.
I agree, this is "fair use" and I certainly hope this issue could be resolved through the proper channels with TH-cam. However, as I am not the original rights-holder for any of these videos, I take the simplest option which automatically mutes the "offending" content.
There is no Nobel prize for economics. However a bank throws a shit load of money at a snake oil man for guessing right once in his life. Could all of those charlatans hand over their looser money to debt relief when their almost theories run aground?
Return of the Magi: Good film that. Basically everyone is saved after the emperor is overthrown. A perfect way to end a trilogy.
The Magi defeats the Emperor with their three gifts
Thank you for this Christmas delight, Dreaming! I liked these two teams!

Thanks so much, I am enjoying this little break from the real hard stuff. Wondering if Paxo is really drinking water...he sounds a bit blurry...

@@jamiengo2343, Pluto not being considered a planet is contentious. The nomenclature change was achieved by skulduggery.
Thank you so much for uploading these. Just subbed to your channel :-)
At least some Knowledge, i got 🌐🇬🇧♥️
So many frustrating moments of ignorance in educated middle-aged intellectuals.
26:19 is embarrassing...
Classic Paxman exasperation!
Somehow I knew this was going to happen.
