  • This is the best bugout bag, survival bag, inch bag and camping bag made. This backpack review is of the maxpedition falcon 3 contents. I use this bag for hiking, camping and bugout purposes mostly. The bag is very durable and all contents of the bag was hand picked one piece at a time. I hope you enjoy the video and may God bless you in 2018.

    Anyone wondering I’ve been using this bag for 5-6 years now every single day. It’s my go to. It has ten of thousands of off-road miles in my rzr and x3. Loaded and still works perfectly. I’d suggest this bag every single time. It’s built like a tank and extremely well thought out.

    I just watched this a second time. I also chose the fal3, I might shed some of the weight in your bag by dropping large stone, s hook, second knife, second pot set, second ferro rod. I might add wool socks, food, a better med kit, water bladder, bags for sawyer. Additionally I would store that lighter inside. Great video thanks.

      Nick Northrop I used this bag for several long trips and figured out real quick that’s it’s not comfortable after about five hours into the trips. I have changed everything since this video. I went with the ILBE RUCKSACK, different knife, cook kit, sleep system and loads of room left for gun, clothes, water and food. Be blessed and thanks for commenting.

      I have connected this pack to a larger frame pack with hip belt. it works well to keep my few heavy items higher and closer to my back, then a dry bag below for my other camping type gear. total weight with water and food is 32 lbs. A good weight and comfortable on longer hikes.

    • @ChasenGunzOutdoors
      @ChasenGunzOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using this pack mostly for day hikes that include water, food and camera gear. Me being 6’5” and 295 lbs. I just can’t put extra clothes in the bag so they end up strapped to the outside of pack. But you bring up a good point, I could put the clothing in dry bags on outside and would probably be good. Now that I have the ILBE RUCKSACK I just throw the entire campsite in the bag and I’m comfortable. Be blessed

    LOVE your Bag!
    I'm in charge of Disaster Response at my local Church. So, I opted for the Maxpedition GYRFALCON. I had to wait SIX MONTHS for the thing, but it was worth it. I have never liked a pack as much as my Gyrfalcon! Another reason I got that bag, is because of the position I hold, I want to have a few items I can use to help others. One plan I have is to carry about 5 each-Small flashlight & a bar of Antibacterial soap. I plan to give these out if and when something happens. In a disaster, Light & Sanitation are almost as important as water.

    • @ChasenGunzOutdoors
      @ChasenGunzOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruce Forster thanks for the comment. After having the bag for a few months now. I wish I had purchased your bag. I’m a deacon in my church here in Cedartown and it’s sad that we have to conceal Cary and even be thinking about disaster. But hey it is what it is. I need more room in my bag for extra clothes and a rain jacket or poncho and maybe some sort of food storage. God Bless and enjoy your bag. Wish I had it

  • @MrWmburr7
    @MrWmburr7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have a lot of good quality items in that bag; kudos. You also have a fair amount of redundancy: 2 giant ferro rods & a 3rd rod on the mag bar, 2 Scripto lighters, 2 compasses, 2 headlamps, and 2 knives (three if you count the blade in the multi-tool & a 4th blade if you include the machete). Yikes, I'm glad I don't have to carry it all. Excellent video showing it all, my friend.

    • @ChasenGunzOutdoors
      @ChasenGunzOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Burr You are correct, I had to learn the hard way on the weight of the bag. I have cut the bag weight from 30+ pounds down to 22 lbs. I no longer carry a tarp and the tent it’s one or the other. Yes down to just one ferro rod and one lighter now and I’m definitely ditching the military compass its way heavier than the truarc compass, plus I have a compass on my phone provided I can keep it charged with solar. The two knives well one needs to go so the mora is soon out. And man the condor machete is pretty dang heavy but I use it a lot so I guess I will suffer the weight of it. I’m still trying to cut weight on the sleeping pad deal because man the static v is heavvvvvy but man is it nice to sleep on. Thanks for the comments they are definitely appreciated. God Bless

I have been tying all the chords from the zippers by looping one into the other in tying them together but it's a real pain trying to get them apart when you're in a hurry I didn't think of using little carabiners. Great video. I actually bought this bag based on this review! Unfortunately, I'm returning it. I was looking for something I could use as both a BOB and a hiking/camping pack. My wife and I hit the trails last weekend and after about 5 miles, my shoulders were killing me. Pack weighted 34lbs. The hip straps did nothing to help.. just completely uncomfortable. I've got a Gyrafalcon on the way so hopefully those hip straps will be a lot better! Thanks for the video.

      Brendan Fazekas I have recently upgraded to the ILBE RUCKSAK. Bag and man do I love it. It’s a little heavy but it can carry a car load of stuff. I put my entire maxpedition load into the rucksack and had over a foot of space left in top of bag for extra clothes and food. The food and clothes wouldn’t fit in maxpedition backpack so it forced me to strap tent to outside of bag. I got the ILBE RUCKSACK FOR 100$ new on eBay. Be blessed and thanks for the comment.

I decided to get a bigger bag and went with the ILBE RUCKSACK. My goodness the new bag is 10 times more comfortable on long trips and I have so much room that I cant fill the bag, so I end up taking too much stuff now and suffer on weight. most of the items in the Falcon bag that you see in this video has been replaced with lighter equipment. thanks for you comment and be blessed

    Pretty nice set up. I was really thinking it was stupid to have the medical patch where there were no first aid supplies and then you took it off. In fact, where is your first aid?Not sure why you took the bolt out of the handle of your cook kit. It is made to pivot and swing out as a handle.

      Thanks for the comments. Yes I forgot I had the patch on the bag, no medical kit for now. I need to bite the bullet and build one for the bag. I have a pouch for it and that’s where the patch came from so it’s coming very soon. And just wasn’t thinking on the bolt thing. Thanks for catching that. I was making sure you weren’t asleep.

      123 456 I have used mine a lot since this video and it is holding up good with no issues. The straps cut into your shoulders after miles of walking. But I like lots of stuff when I go hiking so my bag is always heavy. The pack is small for a big guy like myself when it comes to carrying extra clothes so winter camping trips get rough because I can’t get changes of clothes in the bag let alone extra food. Two to three day hikes this bag will do the trick or day hikes with the family I couldn’t ask for better. If you want a good pack that carry’s a lot. And will never break. Check out my ILBE RUCKSACK VIDEO or other videos. It’s my new camping bag- it will carry everything and the kitchen sink. Be blessed and stay safe

    It's a nice bag and some nice gear but there are a lot of uneccessary redundancies at the expense of necessities. There is no food, no medical kit, no firearm or ammunition, no toiletries/rags and inadequate provision for clean water. One Sawyer mini and a couple of iodine tablets won't cut it. Just my opinion. I may have missed it but I didn't see a fuel can for the stove so you can't even cook the food you don't have or boil your water.

    • @ChasenGunzOutdoors
      @ChasenGunzOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biting Mongeese - Geoffrey Bynoe thanks for the comment. Updates on my bag since the video. Coleman stove is gone- weighs too much, forgot to add the gas bottle in the video, but it’s gone too also weighs too much. The Walmart cook set is gone and replaced with 1982 mess kit - works great for frying food, I’m now down to one lighter and one ferro rod due to my bow drill skills are way better now and don’t need redundant fire in my bag. Water I can boil so no need for filters or tablets. Medical kit well that’s a big one I’m on edge about. I opted out and just added gorilla tape for cuts and slings also the tape can be used for bow drill string fire. Rags are now inside my mess kit pouch which are used for char cloth and toilet paper if needed, seems more realistic not to have toilet paper as it runs out too fast, just wash rags out like kids diapers in good ol days. Now on to the no gun. Yes I should have added a gun. I Cary my sig p238 on my side most hiking days but if I’m bugout/ survival mode then I’m grabbing a brick of .22 LR and my ruger 10/22 or like everyone else on the ban wagon I will grab my H&R 12 gauge single shot and suffer through the weight of the shells. Also I removed one compass as I had two in setup. I added a rain poncho and have moved all equipment into different locations in bag that freed up space for food but not a lot of food. I would like to add a msr pocket rocket stove and a small butane bottle but haven’t bought it yet also need to add a can or two of off spray as the bugs are bad in Georgia. Please keep the comments coming as I am growing in the bushcraft field and definitely need all the help I can get. God Bless

    The mainstream concept of “bug out” bag that is now common on so many channels is not only silly, but very unrealistic. If there is any significant SHTF situation, a backpack of gear will only postpone your suffering for a few days. Unless you are highly accomplished survivalist/prim tech/bush craft guy or gal. If you have not completed a 7-10 survival trip with only a knife and maybe cook can, then my prior statement is true. You need a buyout trailer or van to “bug out” for any real length of time. Do the math on how many pounds to feed/clothe/keep healthy and warm your family for 3, 6, 12 months. I have and could not carry on two horses and a mule!!
    Now with that statement of reality being made, I do keep a get home bag. Mainly stocked with water, water filter, food, few other items, and a weapon with extra mags. I only keep this bag because I’m 65-100 miles away from home 2-3 times a week.

      @ChasenGunzOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man you are very accurate in all your statements. After having the bag for sometime now. I have shaved a lot of stuff from the bag. I am going on a pretty mountainous hike this weekend so I’m sure I will shed a bunch more stuff when I get home. I have been practicing primitive skills for a few months now and man it’s tough. It is showing me that not only is the right equipment important but physical shape is and should be number one on my list as I’m definitly to big. My ride home everyday is around 18 miles. So my hike/test this weekend will be, can I handle the pressure mentally and physically to get home to three kids and wife. Thanks for the comment It really helps out. Be blessed

      NEW GEN SCOUT Actually, You are somewhat flawed. How much of a pissing match you want? The original term “bug out” was derived in late 40s. It was a military term originally, true. Later (mid 50s) the term was adopted by pilots and was their survival kit until rescue.
      However the terms are/were still used as bug out or go bag and mean different things depending on situation. Bug out bag for Serbian deployment in 1995 for Strategic Command was extra BTUs, hygiene kit, etc and had nothing to do with “survival”.
      So state where I am “flawed” in my comment. I clearly stated that a bug out bag is for temporary use to reach another destination, which possesses resupply BUT I called out that food should be a number one component and most of the other shit is unnecessary for a fucking 3 day hike!! My point, which was lost, is if I have a choice between 5 kinds of fire making or a damn folding shovel in my bag, I would take FOOD! I was teaching Marine Scout Snipers out of Lejeune how to track 1990-1993 long before any other branch even acknowledged it as a valid skill! I also was training Game Wardens and Military survival skills from 1993 through 1999. I have completed many primitive survival trips, 9 that were over 7 days, so you are not only one with some experience!

    • @jonathonblack3063
      @jonathonblack3063 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      NEW GEN SCOUT Same here no offense. Having bad week and tone certainly being expressed. My point is and was that people load their bags with useless items. One is none and two is done but having 3,4,5 redundancies is not bright. I had another posting that I did shortly after my first that elaborated more but it’s been deleted. Certain items are highly valuable, a good knife, cordage, water purification, etc and not suggesting dismissal. But half the items most people place in there bags is just because they have not actually gone and and lived off those items for a week or so. Once the do, they will purge and in my opinion if purging, replace with food and/or ammo. My first survival trip was with a 40lb pack for 6 days. My last survival trip was a cook can/canteen, clothes on my back and a fixed blade for 11 days. Of course, at my age those days are behind me for most part.
      Again, my apologies for the temperamental response. Take em easy brother.

    Maxpedition packs have a history of zippers blowing out. And the company routinely REFUSES TO HONOR their so-called "lifetime warranty" when a zipper fails (check out the many negative reviews on amazon dot com for proof). They want you to pay $50 for a zipper replacement. Their packs are very durable, but what good is that when your zipper is blown? No offense to Chasengunz Outdoors is intended. He just hasn't used the pack long and hard enough yet. (It looks brand new to me.)
    All Maxpedition packs are overpriced. There are many other companies that offer superior products for less money. For example, 5.11, Mystery Ranch, Blackhawk, Voddoo Tactical, Eberlestock, and Condor are a few of the better companies.
    I recommend the 5.11 Tactical RUSH72 Backpack which comes in 7 different colors, has a 3342 cubic inch capacity, and costs only $138 on Amazon. Or the 5.11 RUSH24 pack, with a 2275 cubic inch capacity, is comparable to the Maxpedition Falcon 3 in size, but only half the cost.

    • @ChasenGunzOutdoors
      @ChasenGunzOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only used the bag a few times when the video was produced. Although I have used the bag pretty hard over the past few months with no issues. The zippers seem to be holding up good. I would definitly say that the 5.11 pack is not even in the same class as the max bag. I held both bags the same day and I chose the maxpedition due to quality difference. I really wanted the 5.11 bag until I had it in my hands. If I had one complaint about my bag I would say it’s not big enough for me. Be blessed and thank you for the comments they are very much appreciated.

    Your shoulders have to hate you. Awfully heavy weight with no real system for distributing weight. You’ve put in a lot of thought but didn’t give much thought to weight considerations. I’m no ultralight enthusiast but It has to be considered to a certain extent or else you’re gonna dread your hikes eventually, which defeats the purpose. You have a lot of redundancy. If you would drop the unnecessary redundant items (i.e. multiple pots, pans, knives, utensils) that would help you lose the weight. But in reality your pack should have some type of frame system and weight distributing system to take that weight off your shoulders and put some on your hips. I’m not trying to be a know it all, but I’ve been in your shoes, brother, and believe me I had some trips I’d rather forget. These Chinese companies throw those packs together and try and make them attractive with a billion different pockets and molle sewn all over it when more pockets means more zippers and material and more weight just in the pack itself. If you look at it, why does everything have to have its own pocket or space? When I figured this out, my trips became more fun, longer, and didn’t seem like so much work or I wasn’t desperately wanting to reach my camp for the night. But do what works for you and give it some thought (your shoulders will thank you). Peace brother, and happy trails, heading out in a couple days for a few days on the trail myself.
