I'm really glad you told me these will survive the construction. I thought they wouldn't. I'm glad because I really hope I can go to Roanoke someday and meet you, and I hope someday you can come to Orlando or Tampa. Since I was 6, I have watched your videos!!!! You are my hero!!! As you are also to everyone else in the community and those young kids you meet and do such nice things for!!! Congratulations for 23 years!!! :)
If these get modernized by ThyssenKrupp then AWESOME but if they get modernized by Kone then oh well but otis I hope it's series 4

Congratulations on 23 years of elevator videography, and was the main elevator really broken, or is it about to get modernized? I guess you were right that Dover Impulse is now starting to fall by the wayside, just like Montgomery Vector, and sooner than later, Otis Series-1.

It honestly surprises me that the city did not require Hilton to install more elevators in the garage.
If they did require Hilton to install more elevators in the garage they would have to be MRL traction and judging by their contract it could be an Otis Gen2 Series 7 or a ThyssenKrupp Synergy. I really hope it's a ThyssenKrupp Synergy as modern day Otis Gen2's ESPECIALLY with blue fixtures are boring to say the least. How are they boring? I've ridden an Otis Series 7 in the Poughkeepsie grand and I felt barely anything. all I had to do was tap the button for it to light up and it was the green series 7. It was boring enough without the Gen2.

May I suggest that if you are ever back in Augusta Georgia to check out the newly modded Otis elevators at Trinity Hospital of Augusta. I thought they did a nice job on the mod.

If I come to Roanoke I'm interested in filming the elevators in the church Avenue Garage I've been hearing they are the fastest car park elevators in Roanoke but more importently I want to film the ThyssenKrupp MRL elevators in the building with the walking areas on top

Did the elevator you rode shake? It seemed to be making more shaft noises than usual going down.

The main one might not just be broken, it might be getting MODERNIZED. The hotel probably acquired this garage and decided to modernize the elevators.
2023 and the parking garage elevators are still the way they are.

It's not broken. It's probably getting maintained. Plus that elevator has gotten stuck loads before he filmed it.

It may not necessarily be broken they could have it on independent service or shut off due to the construction.

Update: I asked the building manager about why I can't get the elevator to do an express ride and he said the elevator was from the 1970's and made before such codes existed to make the elevator skip floors. He said if we could ever find out to let him know too.
Hold your desired floor and the door close button for the entire trip UNTIL the elevator begins to decelerate at your floor. This way it will skip all other calls. It may seem selfish but trust me, it works because I've seen people do it in TH-cam videos with Otis Elevonic 401's.
Tried that. The elevator still opened on other floors. Sometimes several times. If holding the two buttons helps, it might have skipped new calls made after the elevator reached my floor, but not the ones made before it reached my floor.
I suspect the two elevators, if they are programmed, skip calls automatically going the wrong direction (unless someone hits both up and down buttons at the same time or something). One goes up while the other goes down. If no calls are made going up, then they both go down towards the ground level. If they are both going down at the same time, then those above have to wait for one to hit ground first and change directions. This gives plenty of waiting time for people to gather around the elevator shaft. So as the elevator is going up to the top to reach my floor, I suspect those people were already calling it either before I came or at the same time. The elevator appears to take those calls as it goes to its end destination.
I got some insight to this from the OTIS freight elevators at my workplace. if someone on another floor calls the elevator before you did, even if you are inside the elevator, it will automatically light up the floor called and go there first. It goes first call, first serve. Can be annoying if you just get on, and the 3rd floor lights up when you're ready to go to the 1st floor (from the sub level), but that is how it goes. you hit your floor asap, unless you're on one of them that requires the door to close first (have to hold the button down all the way or it opens), then you want that door to close asap and push the button. Workers who carry freight are very aware of this feature and use it to their advantage.
Also the elevator in question is not an Otis. It looks like it uses Dover's hardware and layout, but w/o the logo and in its place a very small local company's logo (hardly any web info on them).

Were they fun? Boring? I need to know. I'm going to the Marriott Marquis in AUGUST and I'm scared to find out how they ride. If they boring then WTF did I check into this hotel for. I might as well ride the service elevators the whole time as they probably are still Series 1 from the 80s.
They were pretty fast, and the series 7 fixtures look good in them. They still seem to ride the same as when I went several years ago. I will try to upload a video in the next week of them.

Since you seem to be an expert at elevator riding, do you know if there are any tricks to get one to go from top to bottom, 15 floors in a 100 unit apartment building without stopping on any other floors along the way? I have anxiety issues and just want to be out asap.....But I always end up having to share the ride with 3+ people who are in no hurry. So far I tried: Pushing both door close and the floor I want. Holding those two until the door closes. Pressing the floor I want to get to twice. Anything else?
You were almost correct with the bypass you pressed the two correct buttons but you have to KEEP THEM PRESSED until you reach your floor then release. Pressing both until the door closes and the elevator starts to move is what you do if an elevator is on independent service.

Is there a specific order? I tried both simultaneously and held on them until the door closed, but that didn't work. Okay I'm going to try holding onto them the whole time and see what happens.
BugFolk keep me posted there are some elevators it doesn't work on but it should work on ateast 90% of them.
worked 2/3 attempts, but I think I just got lucky since it is "non peak" hours at the high rise. I really need to try it on the days they have the food drive at the community level. The time it did not work, I was still holding down on both buttons and yet it still opened to let someone in. The elevator type I think is lagerquist?
