    Thanks. It’s great to see it explained in detail clearly. Especially useful for long distance motorway driving provided you don’t hog the middle lane or do 100 in the right lane

    If driving on highway to advoid getting a ticket set cruise control to to like 3 miles less than the speed limit ( for example if speed limit is 55 set cruise control to like 52 to 53 mph and you will not get pulled over for speeding ) good luck on using cruise control

    Would like to say I find the limiter just as relaxing; sometimes use Cruise but rarely as I find as soon as you start using it the motorway will either slow down or the limit will change (on the overhead gantries) and so you need to either reset it or brake. Prefer the limiter. Can keep your foot on the gas to the floor and not worry about it.

    Your video on cruise control is very good. However you did not mention not to use the cruise control in the wet due to the increased risk of aquaplaning

      I’m not sure that is correct, as cruise control won’t affect the grip from the tyres.

    A couple of minor comments. With it in use, it’s possible to have one’s foot just above the brakes from time to time, thus reducing the reaction time if need be, c.f. with having to move from one to another, without unwantedly slowing down. Only about 1/2 a second or so, but better than nothing at higher speeds. In a hybrid car, I find it useful on variable gradients to make best use of regenerative braking downhill without using the manual brake application - as long as the traction battery isn’t full! It’s a wee bit like using lower gears on falling gradients on manual gearbox cars. Your comment on average speed monitoring is good - it’s becoming more common on roads these days, especially in parts of south Wales.
    In some cars (e.g. my Toyota Yaris), it’s possible to temporarily override the cruise setting using the accelerator when needed, then let it drift down to the set value (can also be reset to the higher value); I sometimes do this on motorway journeys.
    In one of my older cars, which was a Honda Civic, it used numeric speed values for settings, so steps were more precise in metric units, rather than imperial, so I always used km/h for that car; it was more precise that way for minor adjustments. That model did not have an analogue speedometer display.

    Thanks

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The driving test centre doesn’t provide the vehicle to take your test in - so if you’re not going to use your instructors car then you must find another to use. If you’re most used to driving your instructors car, then it’s worth paying to use it and give yourself the best chance of passing.

      It does feel weird the first time you use it, but you might get used to it if you try again. Maybe don't bother on short drives, but it's perfect for long journeys when you need to drive at the same speed for ages.

    Thank you for this awesome presented video!
    By miles away best in its category/CC
    You guys still havent mentioned anything about where the gear lever stays or which gear is required to be on when the CC is activated...
    And if its a manual gear box ,for the ones new to the CC system ,how the gear changing takes place automatically if the car has a manual gear box???

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When using cruise control in a manual car we can use any gear, but we still have to change gear ourselves, and then ‘set’ the cruise again afterwards.

    • @alincostache2750
      @alincostache2750 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for getting back to me bit its still not clear
      So just for example purposes:
      6 gear manual box
      I am in 4th gear at 50mph and I use the rocker to set my CC at 50mph,
      after a wile I can do 70mph
      still in my 4th gear ,I use the rocker on the steering wheel and pressing UP I speed up to 70mph which is a speed adequate for 5th or 6th gear
      Do I change the gear myself or just by using the rocker I will speed up to 70mph and the car will change gear accordingly?

    • @HogRider420
      @HogRider420 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alincostache2750 no it's a manual car so you have to change the gear for the appropriate speed

  • @newresolution1571

    Hi, when using cruise control does the car apply brakes automatically ? And is it good for a car, can we use cruise control on roads with uphill and downhill ?

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally, cruise control can only vary the amount of accelerator used, and can't use the car's brakes - so you might need to step in and brake the car whenever you need to drive down steep hills or slow down quickly. However, more advanced cars that have 'adaptive' cruise control will use the brakes when necessary.
      It's fine to use the cruise control on gentle up and down hills, but when it gets steep you might be better off driving the car yourself.

      Not quite. If we press cancel, the car will remember the last speed we had set, so we can use resume to get the car to adjust it’s speed on its own. If we press off, it won’t remember the speed, and we will have to manually set our speed next time we need to cruise.
