Thank you coach for the video! I hope you make some videos about the left hand receiving the up/down side spin service from the right hand. Hello coach from 🇻🇳 Vietnam!
Thank you very much for your video, it is the best gift I could have received in 2024! I am passionate about table tennis, how would you define this shot? Is it just the basic flat backhand shot? Or is it used to lift cut balls? That is, can it be used to lift a slightly cut ball? Why is it that when they throw cut balls at me, even if they have little effect, I am not able to pick them up and they stay in the net with the backhand blow
Man the "crack" off that backhand. It's funny that usually one goes through such complex body action in the beginning and the way to improve is to massively simplify technique....in the right way.
Love your videos Anders and want to wish you all the best for 2024, I am sure you will reach some new heights! - I have really been using the off-the-table strawberry you showed us and are so famous for, although hitting the side topspin serves seems much harder than the side underspin serves! Sometimes people get confused, but sometimes they get used to it and then it really needs the extra spin to work! However, I get a bit confused about the hip movement on the backhand. I know some players including players legendary for their backhands in the 00s rotate the hip like you describe, but then some players seem to do the opposite now!? Seems like Ma Long used to rotate as you describe, but now he does the opposite snapping his RIGHT hip forward - Harimoto does the same. Can you explain the reasoning behind what seems like opposing approaches? How can doing the opposite both be helpful to produce more power? (hope I explained it clearly) Thanks Dan
This is an incredible video. I am interested tho about the backhand motion when dealing with a faster counter from your oponent. Usually I struggle with these kinda shots because I find it hard to decide whether to block it or loop it.
@anderslindTT - can you do an video for advanced backhand topspin..in particular the wrist technique to generate maximum spin. How should you vary the backhand against different spins eg topspin vs sidespin vs float vs underspin. The technique obviously varies depending on the spin of the ball coming towards you.

Great tutorial, thank you Anders. When trying to practise with backhand, I tend to miss contact with the ball quite often, maybe even up to 20% of the shots. Not sure what I've done wrong.
When missing contact a very likely problem is that you are swinging back to much before the ball is coming to you. Make sure to stay infront with racket until you see which shot your opponent gives you
I would like an explanation on when to use the backhand “ smash push” and the backhand chop push that Jan Wallner does and when to use this backhand topspin flick.
@@AnderslindTT yeah sure. I like to categorize the backhand into 3 different variations. One of them and also the most common is the one you displayed aka the topspin flick. Secondly there is a backhand shot where you push the ball in a smash fashion with a flat racket to create a fast sort of no spin return. Lastly there’s the infamous Jan-Ove wallner backhand where you push the ball in a backspin motion to make the ball dive down right over the net like a lazer beam. When are you supposed to use these variations?
Hi Anders! My apologies, I didn't think you knew how to do normal shots until just now 😂. I thought you only did that sidespin slice thing but I see you are an accomplished player and this is an excellent backhand tutorial!
Thanks for your videos, Anders! I've recently discovered your channel and found your lessons very helpful. I have a question on backhand topspin though. You suggested to not drop the racquet too low while hitting a backhand topspin. Was wondering how will it work if I want to hit a backhand topspin shot on an incoming ball with backspin or underspin. Will appreciate if you can make a video on the same as hitting backhand topspin on a backspin ball is very tricky
Dear Andres thank you very much! Can you please teach about how to hold the racket correctly, how to change grip from BH to FH? How loose should be the grip? what are good parameters for the side of the handle vs. the size of your palm etc...? Thanks!
How to hold the racket is a personal preference. however i believe the grip should be quite lose and the tension in fingers should come at the same time as the tension in the arm / wrist.
Can you give information about the starting and ending angle of the batt? Can we start and finish with the same angle or we start with a slightly closed angle and finish with a more open angle? Thanks for such informative video
Thanks for this very good instruction, Please check if your shown action fits to your words. Personally I do not see your hipp movement, I see it stays very stiff all the time.
Hip movement is very subtle. its a very small rotation. and a dip and raise of the hip while doin the shot. might be a bad angle for you to see the hip but it does move as im saying.. it just doesnt move much but it shouldnt :)
It would be awesome to get into some more details on the arm and wrist mechanics. It looks like you aren't closing that much, but if I try and hit hard without closing, the ball flies way off. Is your wrist just going through the ball or is your forearm moving forward while the wrist moves upward?

When teaching beginners, many struggle with finding the ratio between brushing and hitting. A lot of videos say to "brush the ball", and then beginners end up using only the topsheet to hit the ball, which leads to a bad contact and no power from the sponge or blade. Any tips on what's a good ratio between brushing and hitting the ball? Should you go through the ball (hit the ball at the back) or brush the ball (hit on top of the ball, and let the rubber/friction take it forward)?
Yep go through the ball for sure on every shot when youre trying to play with power.. go for a more soft touch when going for spin.. a ratio i cant really say because it depends so much on which shot you are trying to make
My backhand goes long after 5 ball in topspin rally. I tried closing bat angle a little but not consistent shot. So during match when I see my backhand goin out I change to play from a little more back . Is that good? Do you have to hit ball slightly top left ? Please also share impact point on ball?

how do people with H3 on backhand ( in soft version ofc) like Malong and XX activate the sponge when only using there forearm and wrist or is the techniqe different for these harder kind of backhand rubbers?
The rubber the chinese play with no matter the brand is not the rubbers anyone else has.. they get special rubbers only they can get.. mizutani had a big problem in 2012-2014 that the chinese rubbers were so much better than anything else in the world and actually said he was tired of losing in the quarters at every tournament to players with equipment way better than him.
@@AnderslindTT even the Korean players won't get the same rubbers? I see many of them playing some blue sponge black rubber on forehand presumably hurricane 3 not getting the same rubber would then put them at a serious disadvantage no?
Anders.... that's a very useful video, but I have one query. You mentioned the importance of hip rotation when playing backhands slightly back from the table, and yet your hip wasn't rotating at all in any of the demonstrations. If it was, it was too subtle for my eyes.
Its a very very small rotation. and its also maybe more of a dip and raise in the hip. you can see i get a little bit lower before i hit the ball and then come up again as im starting the movement with my arm. but i promise you. from a better angle or in person you would be able to see a tiny rotation in every shot :D but yes on the video i agree with you its veryhard to see.
Anders, I have a problem and maybe you have THE advice for me. However, I'm afraid there isn't one :( My dilemma: I can't find my "table tennis identity": I can't decide on a playing system and I always switch from "normal" spin-offensive play to modern defense (with short pimples on the backhand). This means that I not only change the material, but also the style in terms of tactics, positional play, etc. Because I can't decide, I can't make it to the next level. What's also bad when I lose is thinking about whether I could have won with the different style and material. If I play one system, I'm drawn to the other. And vice versa. Instead of concentrating and focusing on the training, I always worry about this one question. I would love nothing more than to decide once and for all and prioritize training alone. Do you have a “golden” tip for me or am I “doomed”? Thank you and greetings from Germany.
if i were you i would just play with the material i find the most fun.. even if it might be a little worse for you at this time.. but if you then stay with what you find the most fun for some time you will reach a new level.. a better level :)
I think attacking style more interesting and fun. Even though you're good at defense I guess you're not pro player you don't have to make money so relax and enjoy the game.

@@AnderslindTT even the Korean players won't get the same rubbers? I see many of them playing some blue sponge black rubber on forehand presumably hurricane 3 not getting the same rubber would then put them at a serious disadvantage no?
Incredible video, bro! but i recommend you buy a microphone. The audio has a little bit of echo in it. Greatings from Peru!
Its not the microphone its because the hall is so big i think haha. but yes maybe i should try it :) thx for the info
Anders what is your height?
Also,great video❤
Anders.... that's a very useful video, but I have one query.
Ok thanks for clarifying that@@AnderslindTT
Anders, I have a problem and maybe you have THE advice for me. However, I'm afraid there isn't one :(
My dilemma: I can't find my "table tennis identity": I can't decide on a playing system and I always switch from "normal" spin-offensive play to modern defense (with short pimples on the backhand).
I don't see any hip movement?
