My family owns this! We LOVE it.....the only problem is the engine belt noise and somewhat difficult visibility from the back while driving....other than that it's perfect!
I went with the SE model for the tripped leather seats. 8 days into owning it. I dlhabe no regretted it for 1 bit. Being a former BMW and Lexus owner. I have never had so many people ask me about my car or get compliments. Runs great. Love this scar.
All in all it is very well equipped, looks rather nice (in my opinion) and is very comfortable to drive. Of course it could use a little more power, but at this price range it's nothing to complain about. I would give it a 7/10
Before I completely debunk your belief that Hyundai's "feel old really quick," why don't you head down to the Alabama and Georgia plant for both Hyundai and KIA. It's one of the most advanced, and is made to make human error 0%. Since you seem to be so knowledgeable about engines, tell me why you think it feels "really old really quick". Just so you know, my neighbor owns a 2006 Sonata, and recently just bought another Sonata-- This time being a hybrid. He told me they still feel brand-new.
I saw a Hyundai Sonata today and the dealership left the door unlocked so I got in. Very nice...at first glance. But I noticed that the materials were shockingly cheap and flimsy. I thought no wonder this "luxurious" car is so inexpensive.
Hyundai has been doing an exellent job in every new car they have released, this new soanta is just to drool for, I love it! The upcoming Equus will be just as amazing and the upcoming new elantra from what i can see in the spy pics looks light years ahead of the current elantra model. keep doing what your doing hyundai.
Just drove one for 5 days, I am very impressed with it. Still can't understand why some stupid people out there still compare this car to bmw or merc, in doing so they clearly show how little they know about cars. This car isn't even in the same class as bmw or audi. Compare it to Accord, Camry, Malibu then we can talk.
the 2010-present Hyundai Sonata/ Hyundai i45 (Australasia and Singapore)/ Hyundai i40 (Western Europe) is assembled in South Korea: Asan United States: Montgomery, Alabama China: Beijing Indonesia
Hyundais are cool for about an hour you get in and you think wow this car has some nice features.....then after awhile you just realize how cheap everything feels. I got a 2012 Sonata as a rental that was my impression of it
fantastic car - should be car of the year. As nice as the exterior is, i think the interior is what makes this car a half-step above its competitors. The fuel efficiency is just the cherry on top. Waiting for the turbo.. Trading in my Maxima for this.
I rented a base Sonata, and it was a great drive. Great fuel economy and nice steering. But I wasn't impressed that much with interior materials (not that it's bad, but I expected better) and the front passenger seat had not height adjustment and sat too low. But I would definitely buy one of these - but I need to check out the Optima first...
even the new tucson is pretty cool and im not an suv guy by any stretch. Im so getting this. I need the se though. Gotta have the 18 inch rims. Maybe ill get a used one next year
@biyorkman you are correct they did borrow technology from Mitsubishi, toyota, chrysler and a few others. But i have a 2004 Elantra with 143K and have had no problems (knock on wood) i would certainly buy another hyundai they make a great car at a great price and with one hell of a warranty i got the 10/100K bumper to bumper when i bought it i used it maybe four time for little things and the dealer was great. My brother bought a cobalt and had nothing but trouble . the wipers went whaky @ 20K
people who say "Korean cars suck" or "its still a crappy Hyundai" are really fucking ignorant. Watch Hyundai dominate the car market in the coming decade.
@mpalm887 the sonata is actually going to get a 2.o liter turbo engine with about 274 horsepower and similar economy to the normal 2.4. check it out at the new york auto show
@bestamerica there was a recall After 3 days when the sonata was released. Something to do with the door hinge. They were able to fix all the sonata's b4 the media got to them. Talk about service. Hmm other companys like toyota would like to see a death toll b4 they sound the alarm.
@simhopp Although wages in China will go up, the most recent estimates by world economists say that it will take 50 years before the average chinese manufacturing wage is the same as other developed nations. As far as other companies leaving China for Vietnam etc, that is not just because of wage, but because of import/export laws within China that now favor national companies and production over foreign owned. This has recently become more pronounced.
Well, it´s definetely one of the most beautiful Hyundai designs ever! I can see an influence or a similarity with the european Ford Mondeo based in new Ford´s Kinetik Design style. Good for Hyundai then!
The Mazda6 I-4 is probably not as fast as this Hyundai. The 6-cyl Mazda6 will waste this. But either way the 6 is just so much more playful than anything in this class. A turbo would be a welcome upgrade to this package but it's got to handle very well to make it more likeable than the 6. Either way I think a compact turbo'd engine is a better choice than a larger displacement V6 like the Mazda so I think Hyundai has the recipe right. A turbo 4 w/ 250+ hp would be awesome.
@vintimv001 Yep.. it was a weird failure though.. and a very unlikely one. If you locked the door before closing it, then pulled the door shut while holding the door release handle out, the door COULD fail to latch correctly. Not sure why you would do this.. BUT as you said they got on top of it right away.. and fixed most cars before they ever got to the dealers.. I think I heard only 700 cars had been sold when they recalled them... Good job Hyundai.
my GOD... I think sooner or later one japanese car maker will go out of business. Asian car makers are just super competitive when it comes to producing value products.
people actually find fault inhyundai's designing. so they tend to copy some high end models for the DESIGNS and DESIGN ONLY. Why is that a problem? It's a very good car. It is better than the accord and camry in pricing and fuel economy. It OWNS the accord and camry in pricing, really. It gives you about 95% of camry's features at about 75% of the price. the safety got 5 stars on all sids crash ratings from ajac car association
@skizzle94 Asian cars aren't copies in the slightest possible way. They are making fantastic quality cars at affordable list prices. If someone is copying another manufacturer by making a similar type of product, then you should start criticizing Mercedes for copying older luxury companies like Rolls Royce and Cadillac. Anyway, german luxury companies have plummeted in quality surveys, while Asian companies have moved to the top. The Hyundai Equus is a better buy than a Mercedes S class.
If I evaluate this car, the fixed price. It is likely to buy it if it sells it below half the price. The smart shopper will beat down and buy the thing. However, I have not trusted the commodity made in South Korea at all. Is the manufacturer that says HYUNDAI developing the technology for oneself?Isn't it a licensing of technology from Mitsubishi?
@simhopp So even accounting for the best estimates of increase in wages, the Chinese government is still making sure that its own auto industry will have an export advantage over the competition. In addition, the Chinese have a mind boggling stockpile of raw materials that far surpass all other nations.
I'm trading my Acura TSX for one of these. Just wished it came with leather + sports suspension for under 30K but eh...for what it is, it's still cheap compared to the rest of the competition.
@speedy3517 maybe for a little while, but the Chinese are on their heals, and with the technological boom in China, soon the Chinese will be able to produce advanced vehicles at a fraction of the cost that it takes to manufacture a car in Korea.
@simhopp These raw materials were aquired at low prices, and as production decreases in the countries that produce the raw materials, China will provide the raw materials to Chinese manufacturors at very low cost. In addition, China also has the largest rare metals and minerals natural resourses in the world, that are used in production of "high-tech" components that are now crucial to advanced auto manufacturing. In many cases, China is the ONLY source in the world.
@jamfoxs everyone is overt that hole its still a hyundai thing. its old and people need to get over that they are as good as toyota and in a lot of aspects they are better
Love it, and it will finally put pressure on the BORING camry, accord, fusion and more to create more EXCITING car's packed with technology for LESS MONEY. Hyundai does it right, and I resect them so much for not being a greddy brand!
Hyundai sudden accleration is for KOREAN HYUNDAI this is US HYUNDAI its different at all. US ver is way better and no sudden accleration.. but korean ver is expensiver lol
@blueberryboy11 those stats are when people liked toyotas and they were reliable. Thats why in 2010 Toyota's total equity was -$218.32 billion dollars and getting worse in 2011. All Japanese car companies are grossing much less financially because Volkswagen Group, GM, and HMG are dominating because of their size and subsidiaries. And the Prius stands NO chance against the Volt. Also its common knowledge that if you are going to buy a Japanese car, the best is easily Honda.
@Corvette90100 first of all, the sonata looks NOTHING LIKE the CLS... second, if that's all you have as an argument against hyundai, things are good for that company.
@simhopp So CHINA will be able to establish what price it will sell these minerals to other nations, but ofcourse, it will provide for its own manufacturors and a much lower price, most likely just what it costs to extract the material. Even Japan is well aware of all of this, and their own studies have concluded the same.
@PROfaniityX23 They do copy, and it's been going on for years. It goes both ways for all car manufactures from all over the world, but I do feel that some do it more than others. A lot more. lol
I read some where do not buy hyundai cars before year 2005. post 2005 year built hyundais are reliable but pre is not. Is hyundai reliable as japanese cars? I would like to buy one but heard horror stories of its unreliability scares me. The Japanese have a culture of meticulousness, but Koreans are more careless. Better just buy German since you get both snob appeal and reliability. Japanese only has the latter. Korean cars have neither.
@yelzhan123 why do you keep spaming the same stupid post about your transmission? go talk to your dealer about your issues, thats what the 100k warranty is for. go join a soanta forum and ask you stupid question there. this is a 2011 all new sonata not 2007, Stop spaming.
Crap. Hyundai is bringing the pain to the competition. IMO they've completely shed their old reputation and without a doubt are putting out the best value in this class. Plus the Accord is ugly and the Camry is rubbish to drive, as is the Malibu. The Altima is out-dated and really only good with the VQ. The Fusion is OK, but meh. That leaves this and the Mazda 6 as my class favorites. If your a driver you want the Mazda, but in this class you probably aren't so this Hyundai is superb.
I have lost all respect for Asian companies. They are the biggest copiers ever!! First lexus copies mercedes, now this hyundai looks like a mercedes cls?? WTF!!! how unoriginal these asian companies are!!
Does anyone know where can I buy apple screen hyundai sonata 2011 limited ?
All in all it is very well equipped, looks rather nice (in my opinion) and is very comfortable to drive. Of course it could use a little more power, but at this price range it's nothing to complain about. I would give it a 7/10

Hahahah! This comment didn't age well at all. Tell me again about the 0% human error with all those engine recalls?
I saw a Hyundai Sonata today and the dealership left the door unlocked so I got in. Very nice...at first glance. But I noticed that the materials were shockingly cheap and flimsy. I thought no wonder this "luxurious" car is so inexpensive.
just got one as a rental very nice car i really like the interior cant go wrong for the price
Hyundai has been doing an exellent job in every new car they have released, this new soanta is just to drool for, I love it!

My favorite car ever in my life.
Thanks for this review. Very informative. Looks to be a great ride - very impressed with Hyundai..
dood shoulda went for a higher trim. the chrome grille owns like a boss.
Im not a hyundai fan...but man this car is just amazing.....makes me want to trade in my 2009 honda civic....but i love my civic tho
Just drove one for 5 days, I am very impressed with it. @MrVnick1 hey how much did you get it for? (out of the door) I plan to buy one this week
I think it looks great. They said they would follow this design aesthetic for their other cars from here on in, and I welcome it.

nate lucas OH KOREAN CARS ARE THEE BEST THANK YOU!
@mpalm887 the sonata is actually going to get a 2.o liter turbo engine with about 274 horsepower and similar economy to the normal 2.4. check it out at the new york auto show
well this should even give the 6 a run for its money if they come out with the turbo like they said they would
it looks cool in red, with 18 inches wheels might get improved appeal
I agree
@bestamerica there was a recall After 3 days when the sonata was released.

Sorry for the large typos. Predictive text is annoying.
my only complaint with the car is that the e brake is not in the console. i hate foot pedal e brakes lol
I have the new limited sonata i love it NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!
my GOD... I think sooner or later one japanese car maker will go out of business. Asian car makers are just super competitive when it comes to producing value products.
for 4 grand less than an accord this is a game changer.
13 yrs later this comment didn't age well. Those accords held their value 10k+ while you can find these Sonatas for under 2k
WOW. I see a little bit of the Mazda 6 .
Lol the mic

most of the cabs in my country are Sonatas. Guess where I'm from.
Looks great from the from, and sides, but man the rear taillight's and bumper look CHEAP and out of place!
I'm trading my Acura TSX for one of these.
Just wished it came with leather + sports suspension for under 30K but eh...for what it is, it's still cheap compared to the rest of the competition.
A TSX for a Hyundai? I know this is a 12 yr comment but good grief
The mic kill this video lol
Not bad.. but its still a hyundai! The back kind of remind me of the old 3 series..
@philyfree its prolly a backup give the guy some slack
