David Draiman...amazing range and control...a powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do . He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! ...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Loved your reaction Jon.

I'm sad that you didn't watched right to the end, when Draiman dropped back into a softer range to finish the song, so you've missed a key element of his vocal talent there me thinks. Also, when he performed the song, Draiman was quite ill with the flu but smashed out of the park all the same. There were some audio corrections which Draiman was not pleased about, but the Conan producers insisted on otherwise.

I love David Draiman, he has continued to improve every year! There is something about lower tonality vocalists that I love. Other good examples are Corey Taylor, Ivan Moody and a lesser known one Tommy Vext of Bad Wolves.

Fantastic vocal analysis, but even more is that you picked up and commented on the arrangement of the instrumentals building up. I have watched SO many reactions to David's rendition of this song, and you are the first to bring that up, and I appreciate that. Also, your description of David's vocal abilities is fantastic, even giving an easy to understand way of knowing which vocal cords are used to make it happen. I have that ability to do that with my voice as well, but can not figure out how to do the falsetto at the same time as David does. He is truly a Sultan of Swing :D

I strongly suggest the Official Music Video. I loved your reaction to this cover. Official Music Video
the imagery is fantastic. so much symbolism. I am a child of the 60's when Simon & Garfunkel released the original in 1964 I was in high school, back then I considered it kind of country-ish, I liked it but the message didn't pierce the soul. This cover by Disturbed along with the video is the BEST it touches your soul and really gets S&G message to the core of my being and many others too, goosebumps and tears every time. "Neon God" in the 60's TV the advancement of technology NOW there is so many more especially cell phones. "Neon light that split the night", I remember when neon light would turn on there would be a crackling sound thus touched the sound of silence.
Suggestion = The official video by Disturbed “Hold On To Memories” was released Jan 23rd 2020. “Hold on to Memories" is about not only honoring those we’ve lost, but also making the most of our time with those we still have.

Sir, you did not finish the song or his performance which garnered a 10-minute standing ovation and applause from the audience, a nomination for a Grammy, and the backstage people coming out to see who was singing. I suggest 2 things: finish the video and watch the studio version for the visuals which was done in 2015. I am 76 and have listened to Simon & Garfunkel plus a bunch of other singers doing Sound of Silence; only after hearing Disturbed last year did I finally understand the song. The studio version doesn't include this orchestration; it is less but still great.

What's Ironic is the first time they released the song in 1964, on the album "Wednesday Morning,
3 A.M." , with an "s" The Sounds of Silence, which was was completely acoustic, the song and their debut album were a complete flop, causing them to quit and disband, Simon moving to the U.K and Garfunkel back to Columbia University to finish his degree. Almost a year later the song started getting some radio play on college stations, then getting requests to be played on terrestrial radio, so their former producer Tom Wilson remixed the track adding in some drums and a few subtle electric instruments, and re-released it in late 1965, when it finally shot up the charts.
Paul and Art, separately weren't even aware of this until they saw the Billboard Charts in the morning paper, and saw that their song sitting at #1. While they weren't particularly happy with Tom Wilson, especially Paul, for tinkering with their song, they couldn't really complain about the results, and their new found success, so Paul flew back to the states and they headed back to the studio to record their second album aptly named (minus the "s") The Sound of Silence, and the rest is history so to speak.

My first concert was Iron Maiden and Accept back when I was barely a teen in 1985. In 2000, I went to see Fuel and had no idea who was opening for them - it turned out to be Disturbed and they blew fuel away, wasn't even close. I went home that night, and the next morning, bought that first CD and it didn't come out of my player for a month!
I have seen them 3 more times since then, and they kicked ass every single time. I am not even that familiar with all their new stuff, anything past 10k fists, since I have gotten old! Compare with the original, please. You're a vocalist, how did you not spot the use of software on this. You don't need an analyser, you can hear it. Almost Karaoke level software!
