One Tigris TANGRAM UL Double Backpacking Tent | Review | Full Pitching | Pitching the Tangram tent

  • A look at the Tangram UL double backpacking tent made by One Tigris. this is a lightweight 2 person trekking pole tent. although I would call it a lightweight large one person tent, that would fit a tall person and their gear inside.
    the Tangram is a very stable trekking pole tent similar in design to the Lanshan 2 only much more stable.
    This is a review followed by a full demonstration of how to pitch the Tangram.
    I think this is possibly a contender for the best trekking pole tent on the market.
    For how to pitch skip to 07:52 on the video

    I've just bought one of these for £85 brand new. I've never been sure about some of the other trekking pole tents out there but this one really does look solid when set up correctly. I love that star gazing feature and the fact you can use a ridge line in woodland too. Thanks for the setup demonstration.

  • @hikingwithrosy

    That looks a solid tent Dan! At that weight without poles i wouldn’t call it Ultra Light but a lot of the UL tents always look a bit flimsy for hardcore UK weather, so it depends what you’re after and how safe you want to feel! As you say the guying system should help with that too. I like that you can unzip right across to open it up totally. Not keen on tents where you can only just about open half the end. You didn’t mention the colour - I really like that, a bit old school and blends in nicely. I was waiting for the price and expecting that to be the catch, but that’s actually very reasonable. It certainly looks well made for that price.
    Thanks mate great review! - ATB, Mark 👍

    • @CampLifeBushcraft

      Yes the colour does make it look old school.. you can also suspend it as the loops on top are very strong looking.

    Hiya Dan
    Been a while, soz abt that, time flies when you're having fun right? lol
    So, I'm liking the looks of this tent mate. I tell you what else is good about those 'half way' guys? They are excellent if like me, you have a touch of claustrophobia as they keep the canvas from drooping over your head / face and giving you the willies.
    Don't laugh, it can happen to anyone ya know (you're gigglin, I can hear ya ya git ) Listen, I was in my late 40's, never suffered before, one Sunday I decided to clear out that black hole we most of us have under the stairs, you know, where the vaccume lives and bang, panic attack and that was it, stayed with me ever since.
    Back to the tent. Looks quite sturdy enough to brave the winds of Dartmoor, the colour is right for a bit of wild camping and most importantly, It's nowhere near the stupid money you paid for that last one :-O ... I mean, dear me, what were you thinking Dan? .. I watched that and thought 'How bldy much?1? ... Nah mate, I'd stick to me five quid tarp from the pound shop lol, but this one, on a serious note, it looks worth the money and I'll be watching closely to see how the two compare when you give them a bit of welly in the upcoming winter weather.
    OK mate, thats me for now, I'm off to play with me radios haha. Take care, goos to see you posting and my best to the better half as always, good to see her good self in recent videos too (y)

    Awesome looking tent Dan. I really must have a tent that I can sit up in, esp in the long winter nights. One of my pet hates is eating and drinking, lying down, even getting dressed/undressed is a massive pain when you can't sit up. I really want to see how you get on with this over the winter, I agree totally about breaking the tent down into two parts, you will easily lose them through your pack. excellent review and good ideas Dan. I like the bathtub floor. Maybe a ground cover under that to give it more protection from debri and water. Looks very roomy for you and Tink. Be sure sand out something on the guy lines so you don’t trip over them when it’s dark. Guess you can use a fairly straight small branch if you don’t have or forgot the trekking poles. Look forward to see your next camp adventure with that tent. ATB

    • @CampLifeBushcraft

    One Tigris make some really nice retro stuff, I'm not a 'trekking pole' guy though🤔. They have a lot of attention to detail in reinforcing corners/ seams etc. I reckon if you were walking the Yorkshire dales or Lake District on your own, it'd make a lot of sense. One Tigris tend to factor in a lot of 'modularity' to provide many options. If you just use it instead of a tarp it'd be pretty luxurious and robust as a tarp alternative without the inner 🤔😍👏👏👏.

    • @CampLifeBushcraft
      @CampLifeBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I like the colour, it’s very old school.
      Using wood instead of trekking poles is another option, as is suspending it from the loops on the top corners.. I didn’t notice that until after.

      @@CampLifeBushcraft Hi Dan, hope all is OK :-)
      Just wondering did you finish up that comparison video? I did look but couldn't find it.
      I noticed the Tangram was reduced on Amazon but ruled it out when I saw it was only 1500 HH. The blurb doesn't mention any difference between fly and groundsheet which is even more worrying. The Lanshan however is rated at 5000 fly and 8000 groundsheet.
      Anyway I was watching your live chat and you flagged it as being a good buy which made me take notice :-) I decided to buy it anyway to take a look - it will be delivered tomorrow. I don't have any grass to pitch it but will try rigging the flysheet up and give it a hose down to try to check for any leaks (can see that not working at all though!).
      I know there was light rain in your video, but have you since used the tent (or just erected it oh err) in heavier rain and/or wind (saw you use it in the later collaboration video but the weather looked fine - heads the next morning not so much ;-)

  • @NoviceWildCamper

    I was seriously tempted with this one but ended up with the Onetigris smokey hut which has no inner but got one that fitted perfect from alibaba. Still want this one though 😂 my worry is fitting in it as I'm 6'4 🙄 Do you know if they offer a 4 season inner or do you think its even worth worrying about? I see that 3F UL offer one on both the lanshan and pro version. Decisions decisions.... Great review BTW 👍

    • @CampLifeBushcraft
      @CampLifeBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have the smokey hut, I use that with a stove over winter time. its a great tent. I'm 5'8 and had my hands stretched above my head laying down.. I reckon you should be ok in it.. I guess if you get it from amazon and pitch it right away you have the ability to send it back with no quibbles if its not right.
      I don't think it needs the 4 season add on.. unlike the Lanshan it pitches quite low to the ground so I don't think it will be too drafty.
      I found the Lanshan similar but the edges of the tent are nearly a foot off the ground, which I'd imagine lets the weather in quite badly under the porches.
