- My final project for my stonemasonry apprenticeship is a spiral staircase using Gosford Sandstone from NSW, Australia. The design has its flaws but is a good foundation for my work in this field. Hope you enjoy the video!
Big thumbs up to LOIF and Asma for allowing me to use their gorgeous track linked below.

My name is Jacob Lay, I have recently completed my stonemasonry apprenticeship with the Victorian Stonemasons Co-operative in Melbourne, Australia.
I am thinking of making more videos like this of different carvings and may soon be in a position to sell some art! let me know if you're interested!

Awesome
Nice work mate, especially when there’s multiples as gotta be right. Looks sharp 👌
Cheers mate!
very nice and clear video
Cheers 🫡
Lovely work; I own a 16th century Scottish tower-house that would have had about 100 treads - made without a single power tool. By the way, if it were a spiral stair it would rise to a point getting smaller by every riser. The correct term is either a turnpike, circular or wheel stair.

This guy can work a stone
how long does it take to make a piece of this? I always find it all the more impressive knowing just how much can be done in a scaled timeframe. beautiful work too btw

Wery Good Joob ❤
Where are you guys from
Melbourne, Australia
When I saw the title I was expecting some old fashioned hammer and chisel work. Very disappointing! Looks like anybody with a couple of hours instruction could do this and not a master stonemason! Poor work.
As a stonecarver and sculptor, i can assure you that primitivism is an affectation. It's a requirement to know how, and prove it. It's stupid and pretentious to wreck your hands and elbows 'proving' something to sneering amateurs.
Really bro???
While this is fantastic work using mainly power tools it really does bring home just how good the masons from hundreds of years ago were. Using a chisel certainly would generate less dust.
I mean who was the Master Mason who came up with the brilliant idea of the spiral stair case. Climbed many of these stair cases in castles, churches and stately homes in UK and wondered.
I want one in my house!!!
That can be arranged 🫡
Installation please 🙏
That is gorgeous! Well done.
Beautiful
