      Exactly. The average European car owner drives 7000 miles per year, or less than half the distance of an American. In America, American cars on average last longer than European cars, while trailing the Asian cars for longevity.

  • @ChevyBM
    @ChevyBM 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    It is not a performance car, it is a basic every day vehicle. It is made for driving you to work, the store and back, and it did not cost a lot as new. Compared to european cars this one has balls and is cheaper to maintain than a BMW, Mercedes etc. with a bigger motor.
    The performance model is the SRT8.

    Hemi: (for those curious) A hemispherical combustion chamber, (& therefore often the accompanying domed pistons) is a type of combustion chamber in a reciprocating internal combustion engine with a domed cylinder head. The hemispherical shape provides a number of advantages over a reverse-flow cylinder head but comes up short in others, particularly in carbureted engines. An engine featuring this type of hemispherical chamber is known as a hemi engine.
    Fiat, Peugeot, BMW, Toyota, and Daimler are just a few of the marks using Hemi’s in the very early 1900’s race/gran price, & road applications.

    I think all American manufacturers in the mid to late 2000’s tried to out crap one another with interior lack of quality. Stateside VW, Honda and Toyota cars decided to follow suit as well. It took until 2012 or thereabouts before things improved.
    As to the mileage on this car, we do tend to pile the miles on out cars. For the most part, they take it quite well. We don’t have to worry about the demon rust too much in the south, which helps. I hope you enjoy your time in NC. If you come by Charlotte and want to sample a worn out Dodge Caravan, give me a shout!

      @@ristekostadinov2820 - 60-0 mph: 104 ft, 0.95g lateral grip isn't exactly poor- for ANY car-and especially for 4400lb full size cars (Charger, Challenger, 300 SRT/Scat) sure compared to a handful of cars now approaching 1.0g+ they're not as impressive. But people regularly make comments like these cars cannot turn at speed at all- which is completely false. Their sheer size and weight not withstanding, 0.95g is greater than nearly 70% of the cars on the road. Camaro & Mustang are being refocused as road course track machines- with appropriate suspension re-engineering and weight loss. The Dodge duo are full size GT cars- the Challenger has a cavernous trunk, and a useable-by-adults back seat, the Charger even more so in those categories. Based on the Challengers best sales ever so far in 2018(a 10 year old Challenger outsold the new Camaro last year), I don't believe Dodge will deviate too far from it's full size GT coupe strategy going forward.

    Interior has better(ish) plastic, decent leather, and a comfortable cloth section. It also has a K&N Air Filter which boosts +10 horsepower and makes the exhaust a bit louder. I have a tune on mine that makes the transmission smarter about speed, when you floor it, the system will put you into a lower gear a good bit quicker than standard, also boosts about 40 horses. All that for a little under $12,000 in total is not too shabby. Not to mention it’s only got 55k miles

    • @joetz1
      @joetz1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 4500 dollar three series will cost a fortune to maintain. There is more to this stuff than driving dynamics. I could see a lot of people picking this old Chrysler, which will do another 100,000 miles with 1/10th the maintenance costs

    • @joetz1

      @G W are you writing from Europe? In the USA parts for German cars cost ten times what they do for American cars. A 40 dollar water pump is 400 dollars for a German car. An American cars starter or alternator that costs under 100 bucks is 450+ for the Germans. It’s not the labors costs that get you (although this is another problem...everything is double the amount of time) it’s the parts costs that do you in.
      It’s one of the reasons why I loved my british leyland cars. Nothing on a BL car could break that would cost more than 100 dollars to fix

      Alan Wayte the UK is a postage stamp compared to the square mileage of the US. We have more miles of curved road than you have road period. We’ve got three prominent mountain ranges. If anything, you could sit down and take notes from us. We have small cars here that do decent numbers and carve mountain roads better than anything the UK eeks out. In fact most of your hot hatches were designed here in the states sooooooo maybe do a little thinking before you try and come across as some snooty little college kid.
      The fact of the matter is we have V8s, 6s, and 4s falling out all over the place. Any regular minimum wage jaggoff out here can go and get a V8 Charger, which will last them until they destroy it, for a rather paltry sum. The UK gets salty because everything comes with such an exuberant tax, and then followed up by congestion and guzzler taxes that it’s practically useless to try and import. You say we’ll never understand; but I think it’s the UK who will never understand. Besides this V8 would eat you alive brother

    I dislike the charger but the endless whinging about a cheap muscle car being a cheap muscle car is silly. You can pick these up for $5000-7000 bucks in nice shape. For that price you get v8 soundtrack, comfortable, reasonable handling, and cheap. Nobody ever said it had an Audi interior. You sound like car and driver magazine endlessly complaining about the plastic. People in the us want power and they will trade soft touch plastic for power anytime. And in 2005 there was a lot of crappy plastic in most cars. One other thing that charger sounds like it’s not healthy. I drove a 300c and it ran a good bit stronger than that one.

All they are really good for is hauling kids and groceries up and down mostly straight boring roads at a leisurely pace, and maybe making a little bit of a rumble. They do have their fans. I think you are correct in saying this car doesn't have hemispherical combustion chambers, but it does have HEMIspheroid chambers, so in a way it’s a HEMI, sort of.
      Hemispheroid chambers have a greater chamber surface area for any given combustion chamber volume compared to hemispherical, in order to reduce thermal efficiency, to lower KOx emissions.
      I believe the last Chrysler with true hemispherical chambers was last built in 1971? Then stopping production for new cars because they were unable to pass KOx emissions test of that time.
