Very fascinating. It seems that all of these movements and principles would be perfectly transferable to wielding hand-and-a-half swords as well. A relatively non-expansive guard would suit this style better though, like Jian style guards or other short quillons rather than large crosshilts. Have no clue why Savate/French traditions doesn't get the coverage they deserve in HEMA circles.
Interesting you say that because my early attempts at longsword usage, starting in 1990, were mostly baised on diagrams of French canned & baton. I found it worked well, although when I discovered the longsword sources in the late 90s I realized there were many techniques I did not know or consider; like half swording. I also tended to hold one guard, like posta longa, but in parrying unintentially moved through other guards, but generally only held the one guard.
A lot of these look just like longsword technique. I was surprised the style even had a guard where you're twisted all the way with point behind your head like for zornhau. I've cross-trained in some kung-fu styles, and was very surprised in how similar stick functions to swords, both jian and dao. I recently learned a dao form that had a lot of staff techniques in it, which was really interesting, (and yes, I even tried doing the dao form with a staff and the staff form with a dao, which was tons of fun).
If this is the introducction, I can´t imagine how good can be the other videos are in the way soon. Great work, really instuctive. (Subscribed) Regards from Argentine.

Thank you sir for your reply. I do have some nice jo staffs; still the quality of staff is apparent . I hope you do more videos, especially, with a partner.
That one was custom made by an artisan who retired. But you can get some from Purpleheart, and most Jo will be adequate to practice with. I would say that it can hold it's own against any style as long as you practice well.

Great video. Will you post a video doing the attacks while doing moulinet?

Any more Hebert vids coming ? How is the translation coming along ?

What is the proper length for a baton? I see sources saying 3ft, but also some that say almost 4.
Merci de vous intéressez à l histoire martiale de la France.🙏
I wonder how these moves compare to HEMA longsword fighting.
Good
What is the optimal length of a stick at my height of 178 cm. thank you for answer
Where can I purchase a staff like that? Very interesting style. How would it stand up to Jogo Do Pao or Jojutsu? I hope you do more videos.
