@MetCastPod you are missing the point. Scott wanted to close, Dodgers needed a closer, and the price fit. The Mets didn't need a closer, they needed an elite/great experienced LHP who could pitch 6, 7, or 8 as needed, and they got exactly that. Sometimes it's not about best available as much as needs and fits.
@@KurtPratt-r4nThese people are IDIOTS who think the Mets “lost out” on Scott. They got Minter who’s an elite reliever and they got him on a much better deal that makes more sense for them than Scott. The stupidity of so many Mets fans is insane.
Mets didn't 'miss out'. Scott had a deal in place with the new empire even before the Sasaki saga ended. No problem when MLB looks the other way. When Steve Cohen spends, they implement a new tax penalty.
It's amusing you think Pete might have that option. He turned down 7/158m, a far more generous offer than anyone else has made. Pete's a fool, and a greedy fool at that---and it just so happens Vientos is far better suited to 1B and the Mets have three young guys who are all decent candidates to put up 1.5-2.5 fWAR at 3B in 2025. Why would anyone pay Alonso 3/80m for all of a 0.5 fWAR upgrade in 2025 and nothing after that?
@ Vientos huh? So a guy that’s basically a rookie and had one good half, is now gonna be asked to switch positions and protect the biggest acquisition in sports. In his first full year with the league adjusting him. U do know when players struggle at a new position it ruins them at the plate right? This is dumbest thing they can do to help Vientos develop. Pete said 3-90. We said 3-68 with opt out after 2. So really we fkd up entire lineup and switching KIDS out of position and adding more KIDS to our starting lineup and positions to save $6M a year for 2 years. Makes sense to me. Get off 7-158. It was 2 years ago. But two weeks ago Pete said 3-90. And we said 3-68. If u think Pete’s numbers are declining the last two at an average of 40/105 go look at vlads numbers since 2021. That’s a decline of 40% in power numbers and in citi field they will be worse. I’ll take the extra 50 HR AND RBIS over 50 extra singles. And not have to sign him for 15 years and half a billion cuz ur not building a team with 2 guys making 100M a year for 14 years esp ages 34-42 years old. Not getting a whole team besides two DH for 200M starting in 2030. Or is long term planning to hard to grasp ? They bitching now about spending already. We gona keep going with those two contracts? I always say that great pitching beats great hitting. I look at the Dodgers versus Padres payoff series and the Padres did not score a run in 25 innings. I also look at the Dodgers versus Mets payoff series and the Mets pitchers walked 46 batters and allowed 45 runs. The Mets need better pitching and the Padres need to act like professional players. The Mets need better pitchers and the Dodgers signed Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki and Tanner Scott. I do nut understand why the Mets did not sign any pitchers.
From the outside looking in, I believe the Mets are only interested in signing Alonso to a one year deal with a club option. The team and Cohen have their eyes set on guerrero when he reaches free agency next year. It would not surprise me if Cohen over spends to get both guerrero and Kyle Tucker to counter the Dodgers and its packed rotation. If it's only money and not trades or international prospect recruitment pitches, then I don't see how Cohen wouldn't just simply outbid everyone like he did with Soto. As a Dodgers fan, I was surprised he didn't outbid the Dodgers for yamamoto. i think he got a bit gun shy after his initial spending spree was a pricey failure. But he recovered quickly enough to crazy spend for Soto. I am a Dodgers fan and I believe if the Dodgers win it all again in 2025, Cohen will turn the money spigot on full blast and Stearns won't be able to reason with him from buying whoever he thinks will get the team past the Dodgers, even if it's double or triple the market price. That is a scary thought because if he decides to truly engage in financial warfare, he has the most ammo.
I wanted Tanner Scott but at least we got a good reliever in AJ Minter. And we definitely need a power bat to substitute Alonso if we finally don't get him back.
Minter is better than good. Minter is an elite reliever. His career numbers are similar to Scott and Minter has been doing it more consistently whereas Scott has had a good recent two seasons.
For all the Pete haters and Vlad lovers … just for giggles go look at Pete’s post season numbers. In 16 games BA 300 / 5 Hr / 11 RBI / 1000 OPS / 430 OBS with 15 hits. Vlads post season numbers 6 games / BA .136 / 0 HR / 1 RBI / 240 OBS / 422 OPS.
Even if the Mets went stupid crazy and did that, it still wouldn't guarantee that they could beat the Dodgers. The original plan was that 2024 would be a rebuilding year and that 2025 would be their year of contention. Perhaps 2025 will be a year where we focus on putting the necessary pieces together to go toe to toe with the Dodgers next year.
You are right about Winker and Marte you cant have them as the DH combo!!You want to be part of the big boys you gotta spend like the big boys!!Bring in two bats and another bullpen arm!
Minter has an opt out after this year so if he even pitches decent he’s gone just like everyone else he signs ….. and the dh platoon for the Mets is gonna be winker and Marte 1000% he ain’t signing anybody
Starling Marte will NOT be on the 2025 Mets as of Opening Day. Neither Marte nor Winker can play the OF, and you NEVER platoon at DH. It's too big a waste of a roster spot. The Mets will cycle their regulars through the DH slot against LHP.
We just need another arm in THE Bp to be a set up Esteves, fineggan, yates and a good bat , Alonso its gone thanks god, now we need a true batter we dont have 2 much options lets bring arenado great glove and better avg than Alonso.
Peterson was one of their best starters last season and he still has 2 years of control, while Cease is going to be a free agent at the end of this season. I think that, if he stays healthy, Peterson is going to have a really good season.
They didn’t MISS OUT on Scott. Stop with the nonsense video title. They signed Minter, who is elite, to a much more team friendly deal. The Dodgers paid Scott closer money on a four year contract because they need a closer. The Mets didn’t need Scott. Minter has very similar career stats and has been more consistent throughout his career.

If Pete is declining how can anyone justify Vlad getting 14-15 years with his power numbers since 2021? Hes had one good power number year his entire career. He hits for average. Not a power hitting and will loose even home runs in Citi field. Look at his numbers. 41/120 then 32/90 26/90 30/100. Pete’s last two 46/118 and 34/90. That’s an average of 40/105. He knows where the Mets are---they're an old team with an average farm system that has no high upside prospects beyond Sproat. That's a team that even with a 330m payroll won't be a favorite to win the division and won't be in the Dodgers' tier even with a 400m payroll in 2025.
