  • Driving from Waihola to Milton, in the Otago Region of New Zealand's South Island.
Driving from Waihola to Milton is about 15km.
Waihola is about half an hour south of Dunedin, better known for Lake Waihola, a popular venue for picnics, yachting and water skiing.
The small town of Milton has many significant historic buildings. The Old Sod Cottage, built in the 1860s, was a sanctuary for miners on their way to the Tuapeka goldfields. The Gold barons took the shortcut over Lake Waihola.
Other historic buildings include Toko Church, McGills Flour Mill and the Bruce Woollen Mill. Milton also has an interesting museum. Recommended fishing spots include Bull Creek and Toko Mouth which are off the forgotten coastal highway which links Taieri Mouth and Kaitangata. Nearby are ancient whale and dolphin fossils at Milburn, and the Sinclair Wetlands with great walks and wildlife.
