    My home stereo has 3 12inch subs with each having their own amp. 5 10inch subs with 2 subs in their own box ×2 with 1 10inch in in a box by itself. I also got 5 mids and 5 tweeters as well.. so basically I got about close to 10,000 watts of power just in my house.. lol.. Drives my wife crazy.. I usually have the bass turned down pretty low most of the time but it stills basses like a mofo.. but when I turn the bass up good lord my whole house vibrates and you literally can hear my bass 6 house down from me.. it's so awesome.. Love the Bass, Bass heads for life..

    From Quebec/Canada. Hi, first thanks for sharing your knowledge, project with fun being very pleasant to see and still learning, well done. For this project, when you gave the measurements, it reminds me my 2 pairs I had in the 80's about the same size, 36h*22large*18 deep. Each had 2x12" + 1x4" mid + 4 horizontal phenolic tweeter with a 3 way 150w phillips crossover. Then I made a small change getting an electronic separate crossover and 3 power amp to reach more power for the bass only. That was like this in those years. Now I can't wait to built one or two subwoofer for my home cinema room with previous idea of yours. Thank you again.

      I've never tried it, so I couldn't say for sure. It might mess with tuning frequency a little. The only concern would be that they would try to push a lot of air through the flutes that might affect Port noise. But I honestly couldn't say for sure.

    Hi, its a nice channel.
    How important is the distance of the driver from the vent? Wouldn't it be any better if the woofer was possibly furthest from vent? I'm thinking about delivering the less turbulent air to the vent and symmetry of air pressure behind the membrane. I imagine the air pressure would be a bit higher on the furthest side from the vent. Thanks in advance.👍

    Interesting my Ultimax 12 box is bigger than this enclosure. But I went for 5.4ft³ net tuned to 19Hz in my case.
    Also I see you painted to port black but missed the sides. (Or maybe that was the effect you were going for?)
    I painted (Sprayed) my ports after my box was assembled. Spraying into the port covered enough to never be visible unless you get on the floor and shine a light into the port.
    And you can never have enough clamps. :) (Though I like nailing as I like to zoom though building the enclosure... Which isn't always a good thing haha)

    Had a question about the sub that Justin couldn't answer. Would the box benefit from a Passive radiator? And have you tried to put the orange box in a car and test it. I'm trying to figure out what sub I want (12, 15, or 18; at 1 or 2 each), and what sub to use.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't see a benefit with the passive radiator with this setup. Sure it would cut down on port length (aka box size) but you also would have the added expense of probably adding at least two passive radiators. And at that size, that's not only going to be expensive, but take up just as much if not more room. But no I've never tried it in a car, so I can't speak to that. However I do think it would work well in the car.

    Hey man, this is a 2 ohm per coil DVC driver right. Wired them in series yields 4-ohm. How did you decide to use driver with lower than 6-ohm impedance to match with your amp? Is additional resistor needed? I was under the impression that home theater amp usually requires 6-ohm or more. Is it because this is an active subwoofer with dedicated plate amp? Newb here 😁😅

    Can you explain the science of splitting the ports up? I've never heard of it. The principle is that how ever many ports you divide it into, you divide the length by the same number?
    If I had a port that was 5x5 and 25 inches long, I could make 5 ports thay were 5x1, only 5 inches long?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s no difference in tuning frequency. The main reason it is done here is to add structural rigidity. In your case you would be changing the tuning frequency because the length would have to stay the same so you would want five 1 inch ports that were 25 inches long.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This one will hit that no problem in a room. 15 Hertz is probably close to us F3 in room. If you really want to chase those single digits though you're going to want to do a lot of subwoofers and sealed with a lot of EQ. The main issue you're going to have is that pretty much any amplifier that's going to be pushing these bigger subwoofers is going to have a 20 HZ high pass on it. So you're going to have to at least EQ that out without passing excursion of the subwoofer.

    The one thing that worries be about powerful subwoofers Is the ceiling or similar light structures cracking.
