I also did a random search to see what it would take to fix my mower seat. Found this video on second click/clip. PERFECT example for me! Thank You!! You are a true craftsman!
On a whim I decided to search fixing my riding mower seat. What I got was an extremely detailed video on how to upholster one. People like you are why I have to many hobbies. :) Great information, Thankyou for sharing your process.
That was very enjoyable. I love watch a craftsman do good work. You doubledthe value of that mower. If it was mine I'd do whatever it took to keep it running. Great job
Incredible craftsmanship! I only have one question. Why would you put glue over a rusty seat pan? Why not clear the rust off first then put that awesome craftsmanship on top of it? If the seat pan rusts out, all that work is for nothing.
Thanks for watching and commenting. There's the bit where I painted on rust converter. Paint straight on cleaned/prepped rusty surfaces and it dries to black
There sure is!! and thanks for watching. Many don't realise actually how much goes into upholstery. There are still those that think everything is a 10 minute job, it's just a bit of sewing right?
That was a great video! Thanks! I just hammered out and welded up a new seat for my lawn mower with some steel from an old barrel. It's kind of rough looking but was surprisingly comfortable. I now need to put vinyl over the foam. What type of glue/adhesive do you use? Would it stick to painted steel? I already painted my seat pan.
Thanks for watching the video. I use a sprayable contact adhesive but you can brush it on if that's easier. If the paint is dry then should stick fine. Best of luck with the covering
Very cool video , excellent work ! . The metal clip that holds on the rubber trim on mine is long gone any idea where it can be bought , id like to attempt a redo of my old seat ?
It's called edge trim or door edge-trim and sometimes windlace (even though it isn't) depending on who labels and sells it. Not sure which country you're in but you should be to find some online. There are three sizes S,M and L. I used the large on this. The vinyl is an automotive grade
@@stitchingsteve Thanks much, Steve. I'm in the USA. I'm getting ready to start working on a John Deere tractor seat repair - so this video was perfect timing for me. Thanks. Great job on your seat. A+++
@@janegilson1886 Try searching for pinchweld trim too. It has so many names for one product. Modern JD's are vinyl welded so you might be lucky and have an older model. Best of luck with the repairs
Hey, thanks for watching!! That little bit of fabric is scrap offcuts that I use to sew on to, to stop and start each sew line. It saves holding the thread or wasting more than you need to. Lots of comments about this... Might have to make it's own video 🤔. The stuff around the edge is either called Edge trim, door trim or push on windlace. Try your local Upholster/Motor Trimmer
Yeah oh ok sure now I need to get the materials a contact cement sprayer an air compressor a sowing machine....come on man seriously that what you just did costs more than buying a new seat
Thanks for watching! You could buy a new seat, if you can find one for a 30yr old mower. You could also set yourself up for doing jobs like this... or take it to someone who has all the gear and materials already? Plus this was for my own mower so my time and materials wasn't an issue

I don't care what anyone said! Truly excellent work! Totally jealious of your patience and work!!!

Cheers! and thanks for watching. You'll have to let me know how it turns out
True craftsman. Very impressive Sir.
that's got to be the best looking riding mower seat out there. great job and fun video to watch
Right on! Thanks so much for watching
Nice touch with the embroidered logo sir.
Very beautifully upholstered. Keep up the good work.
Some guys have skills!
It was already pretty much the cleanset lawnmower seat I have seen on any mower (of age)... but well done none the less!
So that is how a pro does it... Super nice job and the vid.
Pure skill and experience!
Good work!
Your Hired! Beautiful Work right there!
I certainly hope he has a business that does and can use this for promotion. Insanely well done!
Awesome work

Professional af nicely done
Fantastic work, seat looks great now.
Well done!
Great job.
I have a few for you to do. LOL. AWESOME CRAFTSMANSHIP
Drop them in, I'll have a go
👍👍👍. Thank you
Mad skillz ❤
Nice job
The best lawn mower seat I've seen.
Curious, roughly, how much would this cost to have done? Thank you, John
Thank you, I tried :D not sure what it would cost respectively to where you are, but without the silly logo you should allow a couple hours + vinyl
@@stitchingsteveoh there is nothing silly about that logo, it's very genuine keep up the good work 🙏.
What was the white stuff he paint on the seat
Rust converter, goes on white/creamy colour then dries to a hard black finish
Incredible craftsmanship! I only have one question. Why would you put glue over a rusty seat pan? Why not clear the rust off first then put that awesome craftsmanship on top of it? If the seat pan rusts out, all that work is for nothing.

Well now there's way more to that than I had any idea no wonder it costs so much to have a seat recovered .

@@stitchingsteve Thanks,
i just ordered some.
Those little mower seats are a pain in the butt to upholster.
Sure are! Some more than others

I've hunted around and cant find anything. If you can get new rubber, gluing or RTV silicone could work?
Google, rubberized edge trim for metal.
Great video. What did you paint on the metal? That did a great job on the rust.
Is a crc branded rust converter
Good job.... but Dude I want to patch the hole not build a new seat. I bought one for $10 with no rip. Thanks for the video.
In the final step, when you went around and attached the long clip strip -- where do you purchase that? And also, is that marine vinyl you used?

@@stitchingsteve The tractor I am working on is 35 years old! Still an incredible workhorse - but seat is trashed. Thanks for the info!
@@janegilson1886 wow, that's amazing. This ride on mower is from 1994 and isn't the greatest, but gets the job done
I would love to buy one of your covers the one you're making right now how can you get one
Wow
where do you get the edge piece? and what is it called?
Edge trim, your local upholsterer/motor trimmer should have it or be able to help get it.
What was the little fabric at the end of the stitching? Where do you buy that stuff around the edge of the seat?

Omg dude,,do you do Ferraris?
If the opportunity arises
no welping?
You mean piping? but no, none of that this time
