"For our demands most moderate are, we only want the earth." - James Connolly Workers of the world, you have only your chains to loose and a world to gain!
First time I heard this song was in 2012 at the May 1 Occupy rally in Portland. A group of old Wobblies were there in the park singing this song. It's been more than a decade now but I carry that memory with me.
That would be the perfect song. Though unless hes also learned the banjo, it might not have the hauntingly beautiful sound that pete seeger gave the song.
Im in a seafarers union (merchant mariner afl-cio) it provides free training health benefits pension and a support network its the only reason we can feel comfortable going out to sea and risking our lives for months at a time knowing our families will be taken care of
It is always great to be part of the union. You know that the brotherhood will take care of you. I attempted to organize my workplace and it went tits up. But I loved being a part of something.
Solidarity forever to every worker around the world. Or as we in German say "Hoch die Internationale Solidarität" roughly translated in "Long live the international solidarity". We (the social democratic party of Switzerland) stand side by side with all the workers in the world. Keep on fighting, keep on organizing, for the union makes us strong!
My great-grandfather was also a steelworker. 50 years. I never met him, but he was allegedly heavily involved in his union. Now, I am in the same profession, and every break I get, every day off I owe to him.
Until every battle is won we organize a union onward to a worker's and farmers party .Towards a revolution which will free us all,but first the union is our cause unitl our class has power to fight .Solidarity forever a beautiful cover of the greatest song about the class struggle ever written
Without even bringing this song up, one of my coworkers in the landscaping company I work for asked “is there a landscaping union in this state?” Made me so happy to hear it. We owe the unions everything and yet we hardly seem to thank them.
Congratulations @BigBadBeowulf -- and thanks in advance for the good work you'll do. Are you setting your sights on inside wireman, or lineman, or do you know yet?
Well done! Your voice is just what this song needs at this time -- not just because of its beauty and clarity, but also because it proves that the verses can be learnt and sung by someone who isn't old and creaky (like I am).
First Bella Ciao, the Chemical Worker's Song and now this? When will we get "Mother Anarchy Loves all her sons"? I'd love to see you try yer hands at that one. Lovely work as always, lad!
American here I just want the violence to stop world wide we all bleed the same and shit the same we need to stop killing each other and start talking with each other
Every time I hear this rendition of the song I can't help but think of Sean Aloysius O'Brien and how his story inspired workers to stand up for their rights all the way into the 24th century.
"All the world that's owned by idle drones is ours and ours alone" I think back to the old days in the automotive factory getting robbed by the big bosses. 60 hour weeks, dirt pay, manual labor and no fancy perks. And then I think to myself, "here I am, unemployed and watching TH-cam, an idle drone. Can I still join their song?"
Music is an excellent tool for promoting political ideas. Union organizers used often used commonly known tunes that everyone would know to promote the idea of a union.
Seth. Amazing singing, for years i've listened to this style of music and politcal message but it's great to hear someone with your talent cover them. Seriously epic content. Please keep up the good work comrade. May I also suggest a cover of "the commonwealth of toil?" As it's one of my favourite union style songs.
Could you do maybe try your hand at another David Kincaid cover? I'd love Free and Green with your amazing voice😊 I always get so excited when see another of your covers!
Go back to The Idiot (where he wrote a bonus verse), Chemical Worker’s Song, and the other ones on this EP list; reread the arguments in the comments section… he is not shy to state which side he is on.
@@loganking2 lmfao gotcha… been a long long day… I am a pediatric autism therapist so my understanding is scrambled on nights like tonight. Also didn’t know that was a song, lol…
Some industries are banned from striking. Certain government workers cannot go on strike because of the law. Police, fireman, a lot of government workers, the railroads.

Workers of the world, you have only your chains to loose and a world to gain!
Indeed!
It's awesome that you did this right when we are gearing up for a strike and union views at my company are mixed right now. Love your work!
Best of luck!

Haven't even finished listening and already want to comment on how great it is, absolutely amazing job as always.
Thank you!
Now I really need a Cover of "Which Side Are You On Boys?" By you Seth.
Or "workers song"
That would be the perfect song. Though unless hes also learned the banjo, it might not have the hauntingly beautiful sound that pete seeger gave the song.

@@MascottDeepfriar I SAW AND ITS AMAZING
I was listening to this recently because of railroad workers stuff here in the states I love that you covered it
Every workingman / woman should be a union man / woman
As Pete Seeger put it, "which side are you on?"
I looked up solidarity forever like I always do, and this comes up today, and I love it.

I got 1800s vibes from this song with the Irish accent. This song and the accent goes together perfectly.
Seth is American
At a time of civil unrest and endless strikes a cover of this song is what sets the tone
Love Your Music, From Glasgow 💚
As a Yank and a union organizer, this is my favorite rendition of this song.
Seth is American
Seems that every song I’ve discovered this year ends up being covered by you!

No force is weaker than the feeble strenght of one. Love the union
that is for me the most powerful song and thanks for the love.
THE UNION MAKES US STRONG!
Should be an official anthem. Can you imagine it in a stadium?
Alt history. The anthem of Syndicalist america.
Beautiful voice, Beautiful Song, Beautiful solidary people .

I first learned this song at like age 14. And sung it first at a union rally at age 18. My first pocket was very special.
For the cause of Ireland is the cause of labor and the cause of labor is the cause of Ireland.

You are not who we are fighting. You are welcome.
Too bad working people don't understand that the Union does make them strong. Organize, Organize, Organize!
Happy May Day to everyone!
I have never heard these words to the Battle hymn of the Republic, lol

Great version!
Solidarity forever! 🚩
Excellent song
The title is very misleading. There's no such thing as a cover of a union song; you are adding your voice to the One Big Song.

Can you do bread and roses? 🤗

I was introduced to this song by the mountain goats, and I'm really glad you covered it.
I'd love to hear you cover the pot and kettle
Back for the writer's strike, still fantastic.
Could this be the year?
I feel like my Twitter feed is following me... (You know I grew up in West Virginia - I learned this in school!)
Now we need which side are you on
When Manitoba goes Orange
and then immediately applauds the apartheid bandit regime
Dropkick Murphys - Worker's Song if you please
I think the Dropkick Murphys only covered it, the furthest back I could trace this song is Ed Pickford

This song has the same rhythm as "blood upon the risers"
they'll all based on the tune "john browns body" Which was the inspiration for the song "glory glory hallelujah"
@@UNION_JACK_THE_RIPPER looks like I learned something new today
My union has a no-strike clause in its contract and it's pissing me off. Any union that gives away its power to strike might as well not exist at all.
Some industries are banned from striking. Certain government workers cannot go on strike because of the law. Police, fireman, a lot of government workers, the railroads.
What union are you in if you don’t mind me asking?
Damn right the workers of the trades earn the rights we cannot forget the coal miners who took arms in Appalachia 🥃
Battle of Blair mountain?
Another great cover once again, by the way did you working man cover get taken down? But mainly great song ❤️
Yes, it didn't hold up for me any longer. Might redo it someday.
