It is impressive how things were before, I can see why several F1 drivers who are still alive and have related their stories on this circuit said it was a death trap it's really beautiful to see these old circuits It would be great if you make a compilation of the evolution of the spa from its founding to the present
Well they weren’t wrong. Back then nobody touched the kurbs but now we have to abuse the hell out of them. Also if you crash here your off completely and you could be dead even with halo
they skipped eau rouge and hat that chicane and the hairpin in stavelot because they thought otherwise it would be too dangerous... in the 30s They removed them to make the circuit faster...
@Jonathan Bovier Jeah Monza had many Chicanes in the 30's but after the War they were like: Safety? nah and removed them Brooklands also had Chicanes and Miramas (which was a 5km Oval in Miramas) also got random Chicanes on them...
1:31 This small, seemingly easy kink, used to be the most terrifying corner in Formula One. Jackie Stewart once rolled off the course, took a pole with him and smashed into a shed (I think). Despite the fact there were no seatbelts, he was trapped in the car, and fuel was raising in his cockpit. Graham Hill saw this and fished Jackie out and took him to a near by Medical Clinic. And that was the day Jackie said "Enough is enough, let's sort this out"
@@YoyoF37 Yes it is. Probably the most famous corner on old Spa before the addition of the Raidon bypass and the right turn at Les Combe. Still, an epic circuit which celebrates it's 100th anniversary this year.
To further explain its dangers: in a 24-hours endurance race in 1972, Hans-Joachim Stuck told Jochen Mass, when changing their places, that he should look out for "body parts" in Masta. Mass believed he meant "car body parts"... only to find out he actually meant "a marshall's body parts".

It's a pity that tracks aren't about pushing the limits of whats possible anymore. We have the technology but we just don't. I never agreed with the idea of blaming the track for being dangerous (unless, you know, the concrete is literally falling apart or something). The track should be a challenge to drive, not just competitively, but in general. I guess the world just got soft. Back then guys figured "Id rather go for glory and go out in flames then get shot in the next war" it was a different mindset.
@@mcderek I totally agree and it's not like cars are limited these days, these guys literally hit 200mph. There's no fun in watching people die just to be cool anyhow. Also tracks are open during the week for people to test out the limits of their personal cars and bikes.
Why Verstappen though. Norris and Stroll are half-Belgian as well. Verstappen lived his entire life in Belgium, but doesn't want to have anything to do with it, so a lot of Belgian fans don't like him
Yes, his mum is Belgian (Sofie Kumpen), he lived in Hasselt for his entire life before moving to Monaco. In an interview he said he doesn't want to be related to Belgium in any way, so that's proves his arrogance and disrespect

1:04 Max, watch out for that chicane!
When he went into eau rouge i was like 👁👄👁
Masta looks so chill and easy in a modern car with plenty of downforce.
Thank you! That's what I wanted to see. You make fantastic videos! I can't wait to see TopGear or Eboladrome 😉
Glad you like them!
Such a death trap with houses and trees on the boundaries of the track!
If u haven't already done them, I suggest doing some American tracks, like Road America, Watkins Glen, Sonoma, Long Beach and even the Charlotte Roval
He did do Watkins Glen with Lewis, Roval with Russell and Sonoma with Magnussen
Eau Rouge: You have to be completely blind or stupid to not see me
This Eau Rouge is better than 1994 version
0:10 Ancienne Douane
Puka mate puka it’s very strange not going up eau rouge but despite that it’s still lovely to see pre war Grand Prix circuits especially SPA
Engine breaker. Suspension breaker. Car breaker. Driver breaker.
