Pescara is something that fascinates me. The one time that F1 ran this track dates back to 1957. Even though it's not worthy of today's F1 cars it's still a very unique course. Totally one of F1's best one off tracks in the world. I can see some Formula One drag racing on the long straightaways to make it exciting.
What actually happened is Jack Brabham was running out of fuel. He was racing an F2 Cooper, which only had a fuel capacity of 12 gallons. Compare that to Fangio's pole-winning Maserati 250F, which had a 52-gallon tank. Brabham's car started sputtering going up the hill so he filled up at a gas station by the side of the track. Still a pretty incredible story.

That's not true. Enzo Ferrari was in a dispute with the Italian government and automobile club. They were in the process of banning road racing in Italy after de Portago's crash in that year's Mille Miglia. Enzo was vehemently against this. When this, a road race, was announced fairly last-minute (after the cancellation of two other Grands Prix), Enzo withdrew his cars as a protest. Essentially "look you banned road racing because it's too dangerous and now you're doing a road race and you said those are too dangerous). It had nothing to do with actual safety concerns from Ferrari. This was trying to make the Italian automobile club look bad. This is all detailed in the book "The Last Road Race," which is excellent.
F1 raced ones here in 1957. Pole Position was the same lap time as moos in the race and was set by Fangio. That was crazy when you watch todays race laps been several seconds slower than the quali times. Simulation Lap: 3 Minutes faster and the average 60km/h higher than in 1957.
Imagine how many fatalities would happen if they actually held this GP today, even with HALO, HANS etc, the curves are extremely tight and there are many houses without protective barrier. Besides, that straight at the end is worthy of Le Mans 💀
@@iNTERS22 the original track actually didn’t have that chicane, it was added on later on. So at first they were just flying through that straight haha

I live in Pescara. A lot of parta of this track are changed SO MUCH. This year there was a 2 day car show for the centenario.

I love the railroad beside the racetrack, safety wise it was the icing on the cake, and I bet the trains were even rolling on during the race.
