- Seven months after revealing live on TODAY that he is HIV-positive, actor Charlie Sheen tells TODAY’s Matt Lauer “it was like being released from prison” to make that admission. He said that lawsuits by women who claim he didn’t tell them his status have no merit and that “protection was always in place.” Sheen said he’s on a trial HIV treatment in which he gets one shot a week: “This is the future of treatment, what I’m doing now,” he says.

As a recovering addict (clean 10 years) my heart breaks for Charlie Sheen. I see a highly intelligent man who is still broken, still fighting his demons, who now has to fight low life asshats who want to use and abuse him.

I wish people would stop bashing and bullying this poor man. He’s made very bad and dangerous decisions in his life-and he’s fully admitted that. Allow him to move on from all the negatives and focus on getting healthy. He’s got a good heart and he’s honest to a fault. I’ve got nothing but love and compassion for him. We desperately need him, his humor and his brilliant acting back on TV.

I wish him the best ... always liked Charlie Sheen since he was younger, he was different and surprisingly honest about things other people would never talk about. Everybody's so judgmental, but we don't know what it was like to be him..so young with so much success, money, and fame.. but there's a lot that comes with that we can't imagine. Too immature to make good decisions, but just old enough to be on his own.. Probably why he's had a drug problem. I can't say I wouldn't have fallen into some of those traps.

All the perfect people commenting on here are judging a man they never met. None of us know how we would act if we had that much money and fame. Just look at people that win the lotto. ask most of them was the money a blessing or a curse... I would bet the farm most would say a curse. You can tell a lot about a person by looking into their eyes. During most of 2 and 1/2 men he had the good light they talk about in the bible. Near the end he had the eyes that showed nothing behind them. In this interview I can see a small spark again... but also you can tell he hasn't confronted his drinking..
