Thanks for watching my review guys. To answer my own question, I'm going to be a boring old fart and say Grand Prix 3 on the PC. Not only was it a great racing game and the first game I used a wheel with - but the modding scene was amazing and I transformed the game into a fully fledged CART/IndyCar experience, with cars, sounds, physics, tracks the works. It was some of by best gaming days! Looking forward to seeing all your comments and chatting racing games!
Great Review man! Favorite racer all time.. hmm this is a tough one. Surprisingly enough I would have to go with Fast RMX on switch! The sense of speed is unmatched and the risk of messing up even just once keeps me really invested in the game. Cheers
Agreed. That was a day 1 Buy for me and it’s very unforgiving. It is simplistic in graphics but executes it very well and is clear and pretty. I think my favorite is in the Forza Horizon Series somewhere, but Fast RMX is underrated and overlooked for sure.

Sonic AllStar Racing Transformed is in dire need of a Switch port, but there's no beating the 5 player vs using the Wii U Gamepad. That was such a magical time with friends.

Gets a bit annoying these days when devs big and small launch games full of bugs and issues. I do get that deadlines have to be met and they are increasing pressure from publishers etc. Anyway Rant over. Lol.

Loved that you gave that game another look! That should be standart with games that had a rough start. Favorite racing game: Collin McRae Rally 3 - i had the demo back then at pc and i remember waking up in the middle of the night and having like that "itch"/urge to play that game. Drove around Finland and was so satisfied ... Amazing game. Still is for me somehow. I love it. The sound, the visuals and the overall experience.
Nice review, I am definitely more curious to try the Xenon Racer now. Think my my favourite racing game is Wipeout Pulse on the PSP, it runs on 60 FPS and looks amazing. Though, I probably played more Stunt Car Racer and Supercars 2 on Amiga simply because I used that system for a big part of my life
@@SwitchedOn Haha, Amiga rules! Stunt Car Racer is insane, even Commodore 64 version is very good. I mostly played Supercars 2, the game where you tow caravan might be Supercars 1 or perhaps Skidmarks (very good isometric racer). I liked Lotus 1 (insane feeling of speed) and 2 also. The composer for Lotus 2 also did the soundtrack for Horizon Chase Turbo, however I didn't fall in love with that game yet. Think on Switch my favourite is Fast RMX so far, soundtrack is clearly inspired by Amiga demos from post 1995 (German style techno with emphasis on melody)
Wow this looks 100x better than the version that was originally released. I honestly thought the gameplay was from the PC release for most of the video

Sounding like a broken record, but so glad to see you keep with this one through the series of vids. Glad to see the progress being made by the devs. Personally I'm a Burnout 3 fan with last gens Split Second being my favorite racers.

nice review ... I didn't even know they patched the game and it acctually looks pretty neat now (especially in handheld mode) ... I have a lot of favourite racing games like Split Second, Track Mania, Mario Kart and Need for Speed for example, but if I had to pick one I'd have to go with Need for Speed Most Wanted
@@SwitchedOn I've been waiting for a nfs game on switch since it released and I also hoped that Burnout Paradise Remasterd might release on switch but I guess Grid Autosport has to scratch that realistic racing itch when it comes out
Yea I was surprised when Burnout didnt come to Switch when it was remastered, but yes, absolutely looking forward to GRID. Its superb on iOS (though you really need a controller), so I'm expecting BIG things! Definitely will be giving that loads of coverage on here.
my favorite racing game is the PS3 Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. It may not be the smoothest or best racing game but it brings back lots of good memories with my best friend who isn't around anymore..
Favorite racer is Wipeout XL. My favorite track ever is the first one in San Francisco Rush. Starting at the top of the bridge, going through the fog opening up to the mountain tunnel. Blew me away as a teenager.
SwitchedOn Yeah. It also has a sequel, San Francisco Rush 2049 (Arcade, Dreamcast and N64). Both games were included in the Midway Arcade Treasures 3 release for Xbox, GameCube and PS2.
Oh man, I'm glad this game got fixed because I was really hoping it'd be playable. We need some more good racing games on the Switch! Liked, commented and subscribed. Best of luck in the draw to everyone else who did, too! Favourite racing game? So hard to pick, really. Gran Turismo 6 is a pretty solid choice with its massive car list. Project Cars 2 is keeping me busy on the PS4 right now. I'm also really enjoying Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition on my old PSP.
watching a more recent review it appears that they have got the frame rate to a fairly steady 30fps so its nowhere near as jittery and for two bucks it doesn't look like a bad buy. Definitely wouldn't be interested if the fps were still in the mid 20's though. If I had bought it around release I would have been furious
Such a great game. I never got round typo getting an expansion pack so haven't played the last track :( I'd love a remake. It'd work really well mashed together with my other "fav racer outside of MK" Split Second.
Great vid mate. Favourite Racer? It's a hard one as I've loved loads. Outrun on (C64) RC-Pro AM ( nes) Roadrash (Megadrive) Super Mario kart (Snes) Gran Turismo 2&6 PGR3 Forza Horizon So so many. Gun to my head and pick one would be Mario Kart Snes. It was bloody superb.
Its been hard to choose my all time favorite racing game, i have enjoyed a few but i have finally chosen the one i put the most hours into playing. SEGA Rally Championship 2006 on PS2 is my favourite of all time. Honorable mentions are Colin McRae Rally 3 on Xbox.
Love this game on Xbox one X. A very underrated game in my opinion. Hard but fair once you learn the tracks and car handling. Highly recommend it..at least on Xbox one.

I started my gaming with an Atari 2600 and moved onto the 800XL the following year :) Was mesmerised when playing the BASIC programming instruction tape that came with it, that the computer was 'talking' to me lol. Good choice, Pole Position in the arcades with the wheel was fab.
Hi all - great update thanks. May get this now as its dirt cheap on Eshop until 17 july 2020. It's a decent alternative 2 the masterpiece that is fast RMX - STILL my fav addrenaline online mp futuristic racer on switch..magical!!!!! 2nd place goes 2 rise race 2 da future & I also heard Grid is great. This seems ok for the very cheap price of €4.50 - plus that superb soundtrack, mp & tons of content, as well as updated gramerate opt = happy me. Only grip is that after playing fast rmx, which kills this on fx, the devs really need 2 push da switch like the rmx team did. That game is a masterpiece of switch coding, which i honestly believe everyone here will agree with; really showing the true power of the lil hybrid console! Until fzero lands as the true return of da king & a true rival 2 RMX, THIS'LL DO! X
I picked it up in the sale a few weeks back - its OK, better than its launch would suggest certainly. At first I found the drifting mechanic and AI infuriating but I picked it up after a while and started to enjoy it more but I think the learning / difficulty curve is off... needs to ease you in more with the wider open tracks and modes (the track difficulty spiked for me very early on in the championship until I got a handle on the drifting) as so much of the content is locked off behind first place wins. The GFX in portable mode are OK except the resolution can drop so low that actually seeing corners in some stages (e.g. night races) is very tricky... I found I had to start memorising those. However, there is a decent little future racer buried in here. Favourite racer? That's really tricky and hardware dependent (controller vs wheel vs VR and wheel)... so I'm going to cheat and give 3 recent ones :-) - For sheer hours spent messing around in beautiful open world scenery at a smooth 4K - Forza Horizon 4 on Xbox X with controller (the UK setting and variety really sucked me in) - For realistic track racing in VR with a wheel - Project Cars 2 on PC (being able to turn your head to look ahead into a corner and SEE in 3D to anticipate distances etc transformed my lap times) - For an incredible sense of speed and terror with a wheel but without VR - the recent Dirt Rally 2 on XBOX again (it was just a big 2D TV but some of the tracks made me gasp as I 'felt' the back end slip out on a cliffs edge - Dirt Rally 1 in VR had a similar effect but didn't look as pretty)
Thanks Scott!! Yes, the difficulty spikes are tooooough... it definitely needs to ease you in and have a proper tutorial also stuff like making it clearer what cars are better suited to what tracks. I really want to love the Forza Horizon games, but I'm just not a fan of open world, drive anywhere games. I love a bit of structure and especially circuit tracks. It sure was a looker though! I'm not so good on VR especially in racers, but yea, its an amazing experience. I've tried GT-VR and the Dirt game that had VR. I'd LOVE an F1 game with some VR though :) Actually, just give me F1 on the Switch!!

Absolutely! The amount of times I've boosted up a straight, drifted round a corner overtaking a car whilst kissing the apex only to straighten up and boost away - then reached for the video capture button which is sadly disabled for the game! :(
Ah Crazy Taxi! Thats a new suggestion, yes love that game. I'm a big rock music fan and listen to a wide mix, but whenever that Offspring song comes on with the "YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAAAAH" cant help but think of the arcades :)
No I didn’t - I kept the game up to patch number 3. V-Rally 4 is a more enjoyable racing experience for myself unfortunately. (The game I traded it in for) 👍
Ah maybe pick Xenon up again down the line if you find it at a price you want. They are going to keep improving it supposedly, so hopefully will be much improved by the time you try it again. V-Rally is ace though, but ... I think I may have something that tops it! Stay tuned :)

My favourite racer was PGR3 but also loved mid town madness was a shame the pgr format was dropped the plan was to be forza one year and pgr the next but it only lasted 4 years
Man I remember PGR3. One of my ex bosses turned up on my doorstep out the blue one day, invited himself in and played it - because he had a Porsche Boxster and heard that the game had them! So yea... that was surreal. Great games, thanks Jonathan!

I played Xenon Racer on PS4, it’s really fun once you learn to slide, but there is too little single player content. Best Racer? It’s difficult, I have lots of memories with Geoff Crammond Grand Prix and obviusly Gran Turismo... in recent times for me the best one is Driveclub!
Ah I thought it was ok, beyond the championship and unlocking stuff, you have time trials with leaderboards which is always fun to try and beat :) But yea, Grand Prix was the daddy for me :)
I cannot decide on just one, so my favorite racing games are Gran Turismo 1 - 6, Assetto Corsa, Project Cars 2, Dirt 3 and rally, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Undercover, Underground 2, and Pro Street.

watching a more recent review it appears that they have got the frame rate to a fairly steady 30fps so its nowhere near as jittery and for two bucks it doesn't look like a bad buy. Definitely wouldn't be interested if the fps were still in the mid 20's though. If I had bought it around release I would have been furious

Its been hard to choose my all time favorite racing game, i have enjoyed a few but i have finally chosen the one i put the most hours into playing.
SEGA Rally Championship 2006 on PS2 is my favourite of all time. Honorable mentions are Colin McRae Rally 3 on Xbox.

Love this game on Xbox one X. A very underrated game in my opinion. Hard but fair once you learn the tracks and car handling. Highly recommend it..at least on Xbox one.

Right there with you James! I started my gaming with an Atari 2600 and moved onto the 800XL the following year :) Was mesmerised when playing the BASIC programming instruction tape that came with it, that the computer was 'talking' to me lol. Good choice, Pole Position in the arcades with the wheel was fab.

This seems ok for the very cheap price of €4.50 - plus that superb soundtrack, mp & tons of content, as well as updated gramerate opt = happy me.
Only grip is that after playing fast rmx, which kills this on fx, the devs really need 2 push da switch like the rmx team did. That game is a masterpiece of switch coding, which i honestly believe everyone here will agree with; really showing the true power of the lil hybrid console!

I picked it up in the sale a few weeks back - its OK, better than its launch would suggest certainly. At first I found the drifting mechanic and AI infuriating but I picked it up after a while and started to enjoy it more but I think the learning / difficulty curve is off... needs to ease you in more with the wider open tracks and modes (the track difficulty spiked for me very early on in the championship until I got a handle on the drifting) as so much of the content is locked off behind first place wins. The GFX in portable mode are OK except the resolution can drop so low that actually seeing corners in some stages (e.g. night races) is very tricky... I found I had to start memorising those. However, there is a decent little future racer buried in here.
Favourite racer? That's really tricky and hardware dependent (controller vs wheel vs VR and wheel)... so I'm going to cheat and give 3 recent ones :-)
- For sheer hours spent messing around in beautiful open world scenery at a smooth 4K - Forza Horizon 4 on Xbox X with controller (the UK setting and variety really sucked me in)
- For realistic track racing in VR with a wheel - Project Cars 2 on PC (being able to turn your head to look ahead into a corner and SEE in 3D to anticipate distances etc transformed my lap times)
- For an incredible sense of speed and terror with a wheel but without VR - the recent Dirt Rally 2 on XBOX again (it was just a big 2D TV but some of the tracks made me gasp as I 'felt' the back end slip out on a cliffs edge - Dirt Rally 1 in VR had a similar effect but didn't look as pretty)
Thanks Scott!! Yes, the difficulty spikes are tooooough... it definitely needs to ease you in and have a proper tutorial also stuff like making it clearer what cars are better suited to what tracks.
I really want to love the Forza Horizon games, but I'm just not a fan of open world, drive anywhere games. I love a bit of structure and especially circuit tracks. It sure was a looker though!
I'm not so good on VR especially in racers, but yea, its an amazing experience. I've tried GT-VR and the Dirt game that had VR. I'd LOVE an F1 game with some VR though :)

Absolutely! The amount of times I've boosted up a straight, drifted round a corner overtaking a car whilst kissing the apex only to straighten up and boost away - then reached for the video capture button which is sadly disabled for the game! :(

Ah maybe pick Xenon up again down the line if you find it at a price you want. They are going to keep improving it supposedly, so hopefully will be much improved by the time you try it again. V-Rally is ace though, but ... I think I may have something that tops it! Stay tuned :)

My favourite racer was PGR3 but also loved mid town madness was a shame the pgr format was dropped the plan was to be forza one year and pgr the next but it only lasted 4 years
Man I remember PGR3. One of my ex bosses turned up on my doorstep out the blue one day, invited himself in and played it - because he had a Porsche Boxster and heard that the game had them! So yea... that was surreal. Great games, thanks Jonathan!

I played Xenon Racer on PS4, it’s really fun once you learn to slide, but there is too little single player content.
Best Racer? It’s difficult, I have lots of memories with Geoff Crammond Grand Prix and obviusly Gran Turismo... in recent times for me the best one is Driveclub!
Ah I thought it was ok, beyond the championship and unlocking stuff, you have time trials with leaderboards which is always fun to try and beat :) But yea, Grand Prix was the daddy for me :)
