I dreamed of owning a Chanel since high school but the price of the bags I wanted have doubled since then. Recently I decided that it’s no longer worth the price - there are many other things I would prefer to spend on.
I would agree if we were talking about food, water, housing. But Chanel handbags are a luxury item, not a necessity. And the average person can’t afford it anyway. Fashion houses are just that, and their preferred customer isn’t affected by a recession
I do not support Hermès way of selling their bags. Why do I need to have purchase history to be “offered” a bag? Like you’re begging for a stupid bag. Why would I spend my money on things that I don’t really want just to have a purchase history? It’s crazy!!!
It takes 48 hours to make one of the bags, and it’s done by one crafts person. There aren’t enough skilled people to make enough bags for the high demand. The more bags there are on the market, the less value; or there are more bags on the market with less quality so production cost can be cheaper to meet demand, but this damages the brand.
I am not and have not been in the market for a Chanel bag in a few years. This price increase just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Like you, if I ever think of getting another Chanel anything, I will be looking at the preloved market.
I think the appeal of Chanel was Karl Lagerfeld. It's still going on inertia, but it will definitely lose popularity overall as new popular brands rise.
OMG your voice is almost TOO soothing. If you were a superhero, your power would be ending all the violence in the world by telling people to "calm down and consider how others feel."
People are complaining about this increase so much. Jeez, we need to remember that Chanel bags are not necessary for a good life, we can live without them.
I don't see myself buying anything from chanel, prices are crazy, and at the same time too many wonderful beautiful alternatives, there is no such thing as something unique that can't be found anywhere but in one particular brand, not at all, any style/type of material/look can always always be found in a bunch of other places, so I definitely can get inspired by say some bag I see on Chanel's runway, but then I will simply keep in mind the style and when I see something similar in shops with reasonable prices- I'll buy then.
Recently bought a YSL Toy Lou Lou as I wanted a mini square quilted bag. I also like that I can change the strap and that the strap is leather. The idea that wealthy people don’t mind paying more than something is worth is not true in my opinion. Much of the luxury goods market including SLGs and handbags is likely fueled by aspirational middle class shoppers not just the wealthy. I do enjoy your videos and how you keep a very minimal refined classic collection.
I used to own the ysl loulou medium because I cldnt bear to splurge the on a chanel medium classic flap. However i grew tired of the puffy look soon and had a really hard time trying to sell it. So that’s the disadvantage of some if these other brands. But if you think you will use it for a long time then it’s ok. 😊
Thanks for highlighting Demellier. I've seen this brand, I think in *unidups* . But not sure how it would fare in the premium bag line. There are several bags and brands that seem to be in the mid-range and don't always get attention in the channel. It's nice to hear one of these brands is getting recognized.
Chanel is not for everyone, especially now. I only own a medium flap and that's good enough for me. Time to move on and I agree with your alternatives.
Hi Eileen, I absolutely agree with you. I am deciding between Valextra and Moynat, both brands easily beat Chanel on both the price and more importantly on the quality.
@@ColourfulNoir I don't have anything from Channel for various reasons but I got a Moynat petite Gabrielle in black and silver hardware 1.5 yrs ago during my 3 hrs visit to HK from China, it was kind of love at first sight and impulsive purchase but I still adore the bag. The best part is I haven't seen anyone wearing the same bag anywhere, not in Shanghai where Channel, LV and other name brands bags are everywhere you turn, or in the States. Same thing when I visited France last fall (even visited Moynat flagship store in Paris). Definitely not as "popular " as Channel. Thanks for your video!
I actually find the Chanel WOC very well made. The only Chanel bag I’m interested in is the vanity. I thought i wanted Boy bag but the corner wear bothers me. Price increases continue because we keep shopping!
That's true! Although inflation is a norm in all consumer's goods, Chanel probably thought they could justify their drastic price increase becuase they have such a huge and solid fans xx
That Lady Dior is stunning. I didn’t think about it as a Chanel replacement but now I’m strongly considering it. And the LV cappuccines is breathtaking.
I love Vintage Chanel’s. I have 2 from 1991 and 1994. One is a jumbo size and one is a small size. Both in caviar and beautiful condition. Will probably last many more decades to come. I agree with you on the Lady Dior. I have a medium size one. It was a birthday gift from my husband and I love the bag. It’s such a classic.
Colourful Noir I have the vintage single flap vertical line with the big CC. I also have the non-vintage classic jumbo double flap also from I think 2013. But my favorite is the vintage equivalent to the small size. It has a vertical line body with Chevron flap. I carry it a lot more then my classic rectangle mini. I bought the vintage Chanel right before they became popular so I got them at a steal.
I have Moynat, Hermes and Chanel bags. In terms of quality, it’s Hermes, Moynat and Chanel in that order. Pretty disappointed with the recent Chanel bags quality and their yearly price increases.
It’s a pretty crazy increase. I have one Gucci bag and one Chloe and their quality is really good. I don’t think I’ll ever buy a Chanel not even second hand. Your video was very helpful!
I thought you might like to know that in Australia the square mini has increased by 31%!!!! Not that I would ever buy a mini, but I know a lot of people love them. This outrageous price rise is the end of brand new Chanel for me. I did have a jumbo in beige clair on my wish list for 2023 but that has now been replaced by a Lady Dior. I will continue to buy Chanel in the future but I have had so much success with vintage bags that I will be sticking with those. I bought a Medallion Tote last month and crikey, the quality of the leather is absolutely superb, you would think it was made a few months ago not over 20 years ago. And if you are lucky enough to find a bag that has the real gold hardware, they are absolutely magical, and it's hard to go back to plain old gold toned hardware after that. My tote needs a few very minor repairs, which is not a problem, I will get that done after lock down. I would love to have a Kelly one day but I know I would never be offered a bag. My experience with vintage Chanel has made me decide that my best course of action would be to buy a vintage one that has seen better days and have it refurbished. It will mean a lot of research but I enjoy that and there are some fantastic bargains out there if you put in the research and know what you are doing.
@@ColourfulNoir I only bought it last month, thankfully before the price increases where announced. Since then we have been in lock down so I haven't been able to go anywhere where I would potentially wear it. But once we are allowed to go to cafes and have lunch with friends again I can see myself wearing it a lot. It's not so big that it wouldn't be suitable for going out to lunch, and as I am semi-retired, I do that a lot. It's one of those bags that is easy to dress up or down. It's also very light and easy to carry. I am really thrilled to bits with it. And it was around 10% of the new price of the Jumbo.
I'm looking for a pre-loved maxi or jumbo single flap. How are those bags in quality? And what year should I look for, about the gold pleated details? I really want to learn more of this. Thank you for a great video.
@@lindasvenssonsmith4794 Hi Linda. I realize you posted this awhile ago, but I found this guide helpful in learning about older Chanel bags. Maybe you might find it useful. www.yoogiscloset.com/blog/are-chanel-classic-flap-bags-made-with-real-gold/
Thank you for making this video! I have stopped buying Chanel bags since 2012, I do however buy Chanel ballerina flats shoes on the sales but never tried to look into the bags since then, I still want to buy a Reissue flap though from the pre-loved market. I am put off by Chanel and Fendi price increases and greed, the handbags isn't top notch or even appealing to me anymore. There is so many other better alternative in the market.
During this time of uncertainty, buying a luxury bag that cost more than 1 or 2 months worth of salary isn't wise... I don't own one Chanel and doubt I will ever now.. just contented with what I have currently.. better to invest the $ in other areas where $ will grow.. The exorbitant price increase before and now is just to fund their branding and marketing ..
Many ppl are selling their preloved minis and classic flap at huge profits now (between 1-1.5K sgd profit) . So if u ask me it’s a good investment, you get to use the bag a few years for free and sell it for a profit. But if you do not already own these bags, then it’s a bit pricey to get one now. Maybe the mini is still within acceptable price range
I'm done with Chanel for 2 years now. That said, I do enjoy my Chanel vintage pieces with the 24k plated CC. The leather is buttery soft and feel more luxurious than new ones.
Hi Eileen, I would really appreciate it if you would do a video comparing your two Kelly bags. Do you prefer sellier or retourne? Do you prefer Togo leather or epsom leather? Do you prefer a Kelly 25 or 28? Pros and cons of each please. Thank you so much!
So great to her your point of view Eileen, I was never a Chanel fan anyway. In fact I have just a card holder from Chanel. 1- way too overpriced and poor quality. 2- I love a bag that I can use in every occasion.. eg, top handle and detachable strap. Lady Dior medium for me does the job and not over hype like Chanel. Congrats on surpassing 10K
Your voice is so calming! 😊😊 I bought both of my items preloved this year. The only thing on my wish list moving forward is a red classic flap but it will be preloved as well and I would still like 1 slg and the ballet flats to complete my small collection
I totally agree with you on the Lady Dior, even before the price increase, Lady Dior just feel so much more luxurious then a Chanel Classic flap, I used to think the Chanel flap bags were like the "it" bags. But after getting the 2nd to 3rd, u kindda start getting bored with them, even alternating between the Boy bag, the classic, and the 19 hobo, coco handle, and a Trendy... it feels really bored after a while... But then after I got my 1st small Dior in lamb skin... I was totally hook! For some unknown reason, they felt so much more luxurious and I just love touching them and hear the jiggling sound of the hardware etc... and then I bought another 3 Lady Dior within a very short period because of how addictive they are, one in pattern leather in mini size and 2 small ultra matte . Even thought they are all the same shape, but because of the different material and color, they just give totally different vibe.... I just found myself reach for the Lady Dior bags almost everyday... and looking forward to get more Lady Dior instead of Chanel, even before the price increase. I think they are making a really big marketing mistake here. And I got another 2 Dior flap bags and they are both so much fun and chic.
I agree with all you said, Eileen! As a matter of fact, the Lady Dior in medium size, black with silver hardware, was my second luxury bag 😊 (my first one was from Dior as well, but I don't know the name of this bag 🤔...). And the craftsmanship of Hermès is without comparison. I don't have a bag (though I truly love the style of the Kelly, especially Sellier, in 32 or 35 cm), but starting with Bastia Coin Purses to their wallets, they have wonderful pieces, always perfectly made. I'm actually glad I don't like Chanel bags that much (I'm not a big fan of shoulder bags 😉), so I'm staying with Hermès, Dior or Louis Vuitton 😊. Have a lovely day, Dear 😘💕!
I really like your review of the Chanel price increase in light of the quality. It’s been weird for me because I have the PST, the Boy, and a velvet reissue small now... I still like the styles I have but I think it’s also wise to stop here with Chanel. As much as I’ve loved the brand history of Coco Chanel’s upbringing and Karl Lagerfeld’s contributions, I can’t justify the price increase next to the quality and quantity. I no longer want to look like everyone else with the Chanel classic flap!
I love your insights! I think it's fantastic you know exactly what you want, Chanel classic flaps are probably classic but that doesn't mean they have to be everyone's cup of tea xx
Colourful Noir It’s true that it is a pretty classic nonetheless! Hehe hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to own an Hermes in the foreseeable future. Can’t wait to see your comparison video when it’s done!
It’s great to hear the comparable equal to Chanel in terms of quality bags from Dior and LV. The only unfortunate reason many people don’t want to get Dior and LV leather bags is that they do poorly in the resale market. Otherwise, we all agree these are great options!
I totally agree! Sadly Dior does have quite poor resell values, I sold the Dior Promenade flap in brand new condition and my loss was quite heartbreaking. xx
I wouldn't be surprised if chanel's increase in prices will eventually make dior bags more appealing and the long term result MAY be Dior may have better resale value. Just a theory!
I have 6 Chanel bags and I will only consider buying if I really like the style and color. I agree with you on the lady dior, I have the small size and really enjoy carrying it. Thanks for the video.
These price increases are unconscionable. Love how beautifully you lay out the facts. How do you remain so cool on this topic. Such unimaginative bags the classic ones. Many quality issues. I literally fall asleep looking at them. Not worth price. Love lady dior !!!
I have 5 Chanel bags (M/L, jumbo, reissue 226, GST, and mini) and sold 2 (WOC and seasonal vintage bag). I will not be adding any more Chanel bags to my collection. I decided a few years back that the prices were no longer worth the value of the bags. Thanks for your recs for other brands. I also have two Lady Diors and much prefer Dior's quality anyway.
What a beautiful collection you have 💛 Chanel has really made is easy for us, but there are still many good alternatives out there, we're not missing out much xx
Chanel’s small classic flap in black lambskin with gold hardware was going to be my gift for a ‘special’ birthday later this year. I wanted it solely as an evening bag and knew it would be kept in great condition so I could pass it on to my daughter at some point. The price is now ridiculous though and I don’t think I like it enough. I’m quite torn as it is been on my list for this birthday for many years. Dior have a nice evening bag too (their clutch/pouch with chain) so I think I will head there instead and go on a holiday (when we can) with the change, haha.
Hi Eileen, great video! I agree with everything you said here, II feel the same way. The only chanel bag I want is a re-issue, and I will be purchasing from the pre-loved market. I'm very surprised Chanel did an increase so soon, when they did price increase back in November.
I agree with you 100%. I am done with Chanel for now and have come to appreciate the higher quality craftsmanship, lower price point, and much more courteous customer service from other brands, including Dior, Loewe, Celine, Wandler, and the new updated Longchamp Roseau line.
Customer service at Dior has always been top notched for me 😇 Longchamp is very close to my heart too, I have 2 Le Pliage bags and they are a workhorse 💛
Totally agree! I own a Lady Dior in the small size. I also want to recommend the Fendi Peekaboo, which is available in selleria, lambskin, and calfskin leather. That is next on my wishlist :)
I bought medium size 2.55 in 2018. That’s it. That’s the only bag I love from Chanel. I was not eager to purchase other piece since and now with the price increase i don’t even think about it anymore. As I approaching 26 I fall in love with jewelleries
I’ve always been a Chanel person from the 80’s when I was a child carrying my aunt’s classic flap bag. That was when I knew my love for Chanel. However, this price increase has pissed me TF off especially when their quality has gone down significantly over the years. At this point, it’s better to just invest your $$$ elsewhere.
I personally am investing in Long Term Health Care so I can have my own room and own nurse. A bag won't help me get out of bed. Lol. (I might get an Hermes for my 50th though).
I just found your channel and have subscribed after watching the video halfway. I find you very well spoken and your voice very soothing. I am looking forward to going back and watching your previous video. Stay safe. Blessings from Montreal, Canada.
Loved your video!! I had 4 Chanel bags- Jumbo black with SHW, coco handle mini black with aged gold hardware, red M/L SHW and beige GHW M/L. Jumbo was too big and Coco handle was not well made. So I ended up selling both. The last collection I bought was from 17B and nothing has attracted me ever since. I am going to admire their bags from afar unless something really calls my name. I still buy their shoes though.
Colourful Noir I feel the same way about any branded costume jewelry, too expensive. Funny story - I was looking for a pair of Dior earrings(my first costume jewelry piece) and the customer service couldn’t locate in US and they found one in India. When I heard the price in Indian currency, it was extortionate and I could buy a property with that money. That ended my costume jewelry buying.
I have a Reissue, Jumbo, and Old Medium Boy. I would love to add a Mini and M/L to my collection before calling it quits with Chanel (they will be preowned though because I cannot stomach the current retail prices), and moving on to Hermes. :D
I really agree with your point. I bought Lindy 30. Then I am planning to buy chanel classic bag. However, after the increasing the price, I will my focus to other brands. Thanks for your advice. Please do more videos about others choice of bags. Thanks a lot!
Really liked your video and thanks for giving the comparison. I sincerely believe Chanel has done bags are over priced and over rated. I too have several Chanel hand bags and wallets and purchase the pieces I have over 18 years ago. Back then it was more reasonable than today's prices..
I wouldn’t spend $5K on a new Capucine. Their value or resale value is not great. I bought mine 2nd hand for $2K. No matter how great the Hermès bag are made if they go on sale or their resale value is lower, people won’t buy them like now.
I bought a lot of Chanel this year, including several classic handbags, one of them being the exact same small lambskin classic double flap....$5200 before price increase. Selling them all for one Hermes Kelly.
I'm thinking of buying a chanel bag in a few weeks but just recently heard of the price increased. I'm not much of an expensive purse kind of person. Not that I don't like it it's because I am careless with stuff. I just bought a YSL sandals and it's making me want to get a YSL purse to go with it. The price increased of chanel purses scares me 😆
I have a Saint Laurent clutch bag and I find the craftsmanship amazing! I actually managed to get it at 15% off on MyTheresa too, so I will say YSL is really worth looking into xx
I have a Grand Shopper Tote and I love it. I considered adding a jumbo flap to my collection of designer bags but not at these prices. I might look at YSL's Envelope Shoulder bag. It's beautiful and significantly less than Chanel.
Another consideration is the YSL envelope matalese bag. It is absolutely beautiful, in my view a lot more beautiful that the classic flap, the quality is just as good if not better and it is available at a fraction for the price. Other than the fact that one would want to boast about having a Chanel item I can’t see any reason as to why it wouldn’t be a viable alternative.
I notice a lot of reviewers are saying they don't recommend buying Chanel bags lately, with this price increase it is completely crazy. I will not invest in Chanel even in the second hand market.
Chanel prices r crazy!?! 🤯 I will have to think twice n not shop impulsively. I have to shop like a grown up. 😊😜 thanks for sharing my lady. ❤️😘😘😘Sandy
Thank you for your informed, honest commentary on this price increase. I appreciate it! Chanel will never be Hermes. Yet, they aim so hard for it , that they risk losing long time clients. The quality has gone down.
Totally agree with your comments on Hermes quality. My Evelyn feels just as good as my Kelly. I’m going to buy a Picotin this year. I bought my one and only Chanel (jumbo) last year. And I have only worn it twice and I’m ok with that since it’s a collectors piece for me but my Kelly and Evelyn are for more than a collector pieces. I want to add another Chanel (mini or another lambskin bag). Chanel’s lambskin looks for luxurious. And I want to test it out. But there aren’t too many Chanel bags I have a desire to add to my collection. Great video
Excellent video. I think brands like Saint Laurent are much more worth it. The price increases for Chanel products are absolutely ridiculous for what you get. I think lately Chanel has been coasting on name and history alone. I’ve just been getting into designer handbags and it’s interesting seeing the different designs.
Beautiful bags!!! I expecially like the Dior and Hermes that you showed. For me, I am just getting familiar with the higher end bags so I could recognize a great deal if I run accross it. Wouldn't mind having 1 or 2 high end to go with my less expensive brand leather bags. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the current market.
Excellent video! I have Chanel from 20+ years ago and current Chanel. I’ve taken good care of my original Chanel bags and they look almost perfect after all these years. I love the new ones also but I can tell there is a difference in quality. I won’t be buying any new Chanel for both the decrease in quality and price increase insensitivity reasons.
Even before the price increase I found the prices not worth it. I bought my 3 bags preloved and thought I’d add a coco handle and Gabriel. after the price increase even the resale market is ridiculous. The good news is that I realize that I don’t need anything else 💗
Thank you for this video. I am very disappointed that Chanel has increased its prices now they could have waited ! I wanted to buy the little classic but now 1000 € more I think I will not buy it and it makes me sad. I love the boy bag which remains more "reasonable" in terms of price. I totally agree with you the Lady Dior is a wonder and I do not understand why it is so badly rated on the second hand market.
I think Chanel kicked themself with this price increase. This was an excellent video. Never would have thought Chanel would use a generic zipper and still charge what they do for a WOC.
Colourful Noir it definitely keeps me motivated and focused! I have a few in different places: one on my laptop screen saver, one on my room wall and one near my desk 💕 have fun with it!!!
Great video, Chanel timing to increase prices couldn’t be any worse. Two prices in such a small time span . I don’t agree that you need. “ history “ at Hermes yo be offered a bag . I know three people that didn’t have any history at all , and bought a Kelly and a Birkin. That’s the perception, but not really the case. Dior makes beautiful bags and have the best customer service. 😊
Yes I've heard some lucky people managed to get a Birkin and Kelly without a purchase history. However I think those are the rare exceptions, maybe apart from the stores in Paris xx
I just watch your video coz I want to keep updated w what is going in this crazy rich shopping. Chanel, LV and Hermès are for those who have too much money to spend, so even w price increase, they won't really care...it is their pleasure of spending...at least they have the exclusivity from let's say not yet in that level rich.
It is rumoured that their price increase is to recoup lost income during the pandemic, as they do not (or did not) offer online purchases of handbags. Their reasoning being that they did not want 'any old Joe' purchasing from them, as they prefer to ' vet their clients personally. If this is the case, it is outrageous snobbery. I have a friend who used to work for Chanel and I often tried to get her to tell me their (secret) policies, but as a devoted employee to the brand, she was very coy and would not divulge anything which she perceived to be offensive to clients, although I understood that this was indeed the case. Personally, I do not appreciate the snobbery attached to the brand. I remember one particular occasion when going into the Chanel store in Sydney: the security guard on the door looked at me as if I were something stuck to his foot! Ughhh.....I really do not need that kind of 'customer service' or lack thereof. I'd rather go elsewhere where my hard-earned cash is appreciated.
I went to their main sydney shop a year ago. I was looking for a wallet to go with my bag. The SA showed me an option and while showing the mona lisa pocket of the wallet told me it is "great for your opal card" with a sarcastic tone and look... i never went back again. The snobbery was disgusting.
Haha I'm certainly one of the 'old Joes' 😆 Sorry about hear about your awful experience, they should know better customer service is a big part of luxury shopping 💛

@@ColourfulNoir I'm from Belgium and so it's our national pride and I was just wondering what you think about these bags. Weirdly I still don't own any Delvaux myself... But I'm definitely planning on adding both bags in the (near) future. Another belgian brand is Lebeau-Courally. Also thinking of adding a bag of them.
I'm only interested in pre-loved Chanel (on my wishlist there is the exact vanity bag you love too), the quality got lost over the years and their cheap behaviour in such a time of crisis left me enraged. They've fallen in my opinion, and I would buy new only from other brands such Dior and YSL because at least they kept a shred of dignity.
I prefer the medium size a bit more because it looks a decent size in terms of fitting. I think for a small bag, the mini flap might be a lot easier to use xx
I have a mini rectangular, a medium classic, a Boy bag and a seasonal Chanel bag. I think I am done buying Chanel. With this kind of price increase I rather go for another Kelly bag :)
I wont consider Chanel handbags any more. I also agree that lady dior bag is underrated. I m thinking to buy the medium size ultra matte black calfskin lady dior as I think that it’s more subtle when compared to other leather. What do you think? Btw, I like watching your videos. Thanks so much for your sharing. The contents are useful.
Hi Carol, thank you for your sweet comment. I personally like the lambskin better, it's not a very shinny leather if you're worried about it standing out too much xx
Hi Olga, yes they are machined made but that's not to say they are not beautiful, but I think the prices are just not truly representing the craftsmanship xx
@@ColourfulNoir I agree. they might be beautiful, but I believe that the vast majority of the price is simply paying for the brand name. there's a point when the quality and craftsmanship becomes just an excuse and not the actual reason for the hefty price.
I’m forever Hermès and Chanel girl. I do agree the price increase (Chanel and LV) during this pandemic is not the right time but personal aside business is business.
In a way you are right, Chanel recognised the fact that their mini flaps are in high demand, so they increased the price based on market trends. We customers won't like it but like you said, it's business to them. However I think the timing just made it all the more frustrating for most people. Do you have a quite a collection of Chanel pieces?xx
Thanks for the video.. I think if Chanel wants to create an image of exclusivity, they should've kept up the quality over time for their handbags.
Agree if they want to be at Hermes prices, they need Hermes quality
Excellent point, I totally agree xx
Alas, unfortunately, Chanel defines luxury by exclusion and not by quality.
EXACTLY!
I dreamed of owning a Chanel since high school but the price of the bags I wanted have doubled since then. Recently I decided that it’s no longer worth the price - there are many other things I would prefer to spend on.

Pity what is being done to the name Chanel. Certainly not Gabrielle Coco Chanel. Not at all. Money-grubbing is never attractive.
Totally over with Chanel for me - this kind of increase disrespect their customers

My love for Chanel was because of Coco Chanel, but Karl certainly did magic during his times at Chanel 😇

More power to you! I think it's true sometimes people get too carried away buying Chanel because they are Chanel, I was there once, never again xx
I never owned a Chanel and I decided to start going towards YSL and Prada bags.
I find YSL quality to be amazing for their price range, and I'm really liking the Prada Panier bags! xx
YSL is good compared with Chanel. I like their sac de jour so much 😍
Recently bought a YSL Toy Lou Lou as I wanted a mini square quilted bag.
Glad you liked my content, it really means a lot xx
I used to own the ysl loulou medium because I cldnt bear to splurge the on a chanel medium classic flap. However i grew tired of the puffy look soon and had a really hard time trying to sell it. So that’s the disadvantage of some if these other brands. But if you think you will use it for a long time then it’s ok. 😊
Just got one too! quality over quantity - I have a feeling that the lou lous will become a classic in no time
Do you love the toy Lou Lou? What are the pros and cons?
Good points
Thanks for highlighting Demellier. I've seen this brand, I think in *unidups* . But not sure how it would fare in the premium bag line. There are several bags and brands that seem to be in the mid-range and don't always get attention in the channel. It's nice to hear one of these brands is getting recognized.
Chanel is not for everyone, especially now. I only own a medium flap and that's good enough for me. Time to move on and I agree with your alternatives.
Thank you so much Kate xx
Hi Eileen, I absolutely agree with you. I am deciding between Valextra and Moynat, both brands easily beat Chanel on both the price and more importantly on the quality.
I would love to know which one you end up choosing! I think I really have a soft spot for Moynat xx
I'm looking at Delvaux too
@@ColourfulNoir I don't have anything from Channel for various reasons but I got a Moynat petite Gabrielle in black and silver hardware 1.5 yrs ago during my 3 hrs visit to HK from China, it was kind of love at first sight and impulsive purchase but I still adore the bag.
I wish someone would talk about these two brands, I'm clueless
I actually find the Chanel WOC very well made. The only Chanel bag I’m interested in is the vanity. I thought i wanted Boy bag but the corner wear bothers me. Price increases continue because we keep shopping!
That's true! Although inflation is a norm in all consumer's goods, Chanel probably thought they could justify their drastic price increase becuase they have such a huge and solid fans xx
That Lady Dior is stunning. I didn’t think about it as a Chanel replacement but now I’m strongly considering it. And the LV cappuccines is breathtaking.
Thank you! Glad you agreed xx
I agree with you, I need to take a second look at the Lady Dior. It is a beautiful bag, and like the name suggests very feminine.
Sounds like vintage Chanel pieces are very popular here! Is your Jumbo single flap? xx
Thank you for introducing me to the Moynat brand! Their Réjane handbag is now on my wishlist.
Moynat is such an underrated brand xx
I have Moynat, Hermes and Chanel bags. In terms of quality, it’s Hermes, Moynat and Chanel in that order. Pretty disappointed with the recent Chanel bags quality and their yearly price increases.
It’s a pretty crazy increase. I have one Gucci bag and one Chloe and their quality is really good. I don’t think I’ll ever buy a Chanel not even second hand. Your video was very helpful!

Yeah I have three Chanel bags, and that will probably be my collection for a while
Would love to know what are the bags in your collection 😇
@@ColourfulNoir I have the WoC, the rectangular mini and the reissue mini ;)
I always think the Medallion is such a lovely bag! Do you use it a lot? xx
Totally agree! I think Chanel really got too carried away with their profit margin xx
I really like how soft-spoken you are Eileen👍👏
Thank you so much! xx
Yes! Investment always comes first 😇
Many ppl are selling their preloved minis and classic flap at huge profits now (between 1-1.5K sgd profit) .
I've heard fantastic review about Chanel vintage pieces, I hope I'll come across a piece in the future xx
Colourful Noir yes they are wonderful 😍. I hope you’ll find one you like
From what year should you look for the 24k plated?
@@lindasvenssonsmith4794 mine was in the 90s about 93-94 I think.
Hi Eileen,
I would really appreciate it if you would do a video comparing your two Kelly bags.
Do you prefer sellier or retourne? Do you prefer Togo leather or epsom leather? Do you prefer a Kelly 25 or 28? Pros and cons of each please.
Thank you so much!
I'm working on a video soon 😇 Sorry it took me a while, I just want to make sure I have everything covered about both Hermes Kelly bags xx
Colourful Noir thank you! 😊
Thank you so much Leah, it's a big milestone for but I couldn't have done it without supportive viewers like you xx
Your voice is so calming! 😊😊
I bought both of my items preloved this year.
The only thing on my wish list moving forward is a red classic flap but it will be preloved as well and I would still like 1 slg and the ballet flats to complete my small collection
A red classic flap sounds dreamy, I hope you'll find one soon xx
Thank you for sharing your bag experience with me 💛 The Lady Dior is truly a classic piece, so underrated as well xx
Same here, I'm perfectly fine staying with Hermes, Louis Vuitton and Dior. I don't think I'll be missing Chanel that much to be honest xx
Love chanel still, but i would just consider pre loved mkt or vintage only...
Same here💛
It’s really nice to hear you speak. Its really soothing. I was saving for Chanel classic, but with price increase of 20%, I think its too much.
Thank you for your kind words 😇
Yeah if Dior could get their bags to hold their value longer they could become the next Chanel now that Chanel is trying to compete with Hermes
Update: I've already seen some price hikes for the lady dior in the pre loved market.
I have 6 Chanel bags and I will only consider buying if I really like the style and color. I agree with you on the lady dior, I have the small size and really enjoy carrying it. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching! xx
I have that exact Capucines BB and had a Chanel jumbo (which I sold), and I think the jumbo is much more roomy.
Thank you for letting me know, it's great to hear from someone with first hand experience. By the way, which bag do you like better? xx
These price increases are unconscionable. Love how beautifully you lay out the facts. How do you remain so cool on this topic. Such unimaginative bags the classic ones. Many quality issues. I literally fall asleep looking at them. Not worth price. Love lady dior !!!
Glad you liked my video! I absolutely love the Lady Dior too 😇
I have 5 Chanel bags (M/L, jumbo, reissue 226, GST, and mini) and sold 2 (WOC and seasonal vintage bag). I will not be adding any more Chanel bags to my collection. I decided a few years back that the prices were no longer worth the value of the bags. Thanks for your recs for other brands. I also have two Lady Diors and much prefer Dior's quality anyway.
What a beautiful collection you have 💛
Chanel has really made is easy for us, but there are still many good alternatives out there, we're not missing out much xx
I am glad I found your Chanel so classy so relaxing and love your voice and informative content
Thank you so much! It really means a lot xx
Oh how I miss travelling too, hopefully things will go back to normal soon xx
Hi Eileen, great video! I agree with everything you said here, II feel the same way. The only chanel bag I want is a re-issue, and I will be purchasing from the pre-loved market. I'm very surprised Chanel did an increase so soon, when they did price increase back in November.
It's shocking I agree! I remember the days when a Chanel mini square flap cost £1500, those good old days lol xx
I agree with you. I just sold my mademoiselle pink bag and selling my Chanel medium bag.
Hopefully you get a good price for it! xx
Colourful Noir my mademoiselle cost 5500 plus tax.sold for 2,600. Not good.
Ana Burger the medium classic should sell better, unfortunately outside of the classics Chanel doesn’t resell well
I'm over with Chanel, I find that these kind of price increases are just outrageous!
It's really hard to swallow I agree! I remember those days when a Chanel square mini flap cost £1500 xx
Oh I've been thinking about the Fendi Peekaboo mini as well, it looks so cute and functional xx
I love how reasonable you are! Thank you for helping me to save money.
Glad you found my video helpful!xx
I bought medium size 2.55 in 2018. That’s it. That’s the only bag I love from Chanel. I was not eager to purchase other piece since and now with the price increase i don’t even think about it anymore. As I approaching 26 I fall in love with jewelleries
I’ve always been a Chanel person from the 80’s when I was a child carrying my aunt’s classic flap bag. That was when I knew my love for Chanel. However, this price increase has pissed me TF off especially when their quality has gone down significantly over the years. At this point, it’s better to just invest your $$$ elsewhere.
I feel you, Chanel increases are hard to believe and digest. It's a shame they're making us walk away but I guess it's money saved for us xx
Colourful Noir 💯 🙏🏼
I personally am investing in Long Term Health Care so I can have my own room and own nurse. A bag won't help me get out of bed. Lol. (I might get an Hermes for my 50th though).
I just found your channel and have subscribed after watching the video halfway. I find you very well spoken and your voice very soothing. I am looking forward to going back and watching your previous video. Stay safe. Blessings from Montreal, Canada.
Hi Eva, this really means a lot. Thank you so much and welcome to my TH-cam family! xx
Same for me, I still think their bags are lovely but given the current prices, I'm perfectly happy just to admire them from afar xx
Sounds like a solid plan 😉
I love the things you said and the way you speak. Such a lovely calm voice. New subscriber :)
Thank you so much and welcome on board xx
I really agree with your point. I bought Lindy 30. Then I am planning to buy chanel classic bag. However, after the increasing the price, I will my focus to other brands. Thanks for your advice. Please do more videos about others choice of bags. Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much for sharing! I will keep working hard to make more content xx
Really liked your video and thanks for giving the comparison. I sincerely believe Chanel has done bags are over priced and over rated. I too have several Chanel hand bags and wallets and purchase the pieces I have over 18 years ago. Back then it was more reasonable than today's prices..
I agree! Prices aside, I've actually not been very excited with a lot of the recent collections xx
Less is more definitely! xx
Maybe look for the vanity case on the preloved market?
I think YSL quality is really good for the price range, I have a YSL clutch and it's so worth it xx
I don't blame you, preloved prices are definitely going up to, it's a viscous cycle 😶
Yeah at that price you’d be smarter to buy Hermes
Chanel prices r crazy!?! 🤯 I will have to think twice n not shop impulsively. I have to shop like a grown up. 😊😜 thanks for sharing my lady. ❤️😘😘😘Sandy
Chanel made it easy for us, so no heart of steel required haha xx
Thank you for your informed, honest commentary on this price increase. I appreciate it! Chanel will never be Hermes. Yet, they aim so hard for it , that they risk losing long time clients. The quality has gone down.
I agree! Chanel quality has been a bit disappointing lately xx
Great video
I am thinking to add a Picotin too! There's just something about it, so cute and chic. I'm thinking gold hardware but they're quite hard to come by xx
Thank you for doing this video! You validated how I felt. Chanel is too expensive already for the quality they provide.
Glad it was helpful!xx
Excellent video. I think brands like Saint Laurent are much more worth it. The price increases for Chanel products are absolutely ridiculous for what you get. I think lately Chanel has been coasting on name and history alone. I’ve just been getting into designer handbags and it’s interesting seeing the different designs.
Thanks for sharing!!xx
Beautiful bags!!! I expecially like the Dior and Hermes that you showed. For me, I am just getting familiar with the higher end bags so I could recognize a great deal if I run accross it. Wouldn't mind having 1 or 2 high end to go with my less expensive brand leather bags. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the current market.
You are so welcome! Thank you for dropping by xx
Love the Lady Dior and LV Capuccines, both are so classic and elegant!
💛
Excellent video! I have Chanel from 20+ years ago and current Chanel. I’ve taken good care of my original Chanel bags and they look almost perfect after all these years. I love the new ones also but I can tell there is a difference in quality. I won’t be buying any new Chanel for both the decrease in quality and price increase insensitivity reasons.
Thanks for sharing! xx
Even before the price increase I found the prices not worth it. I bought my 3 bags preloved and thought I’d add a coco handle and Gabriel. after the price increase even the resale market is ridiculous. The good news is that I realize that I don’t need anything else 💗
True, even the preloved prices are getting a bit hard to swallow for Chanel now. Chanel has successfully pushed us away further and further x
Thanks for this video ... can you do a comparison between your Chanel mini and small classic ? Those are the bags I am interested in.
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I will definitely put that on my to do list xx
I saw a Chanel mini square 5 years ago at under £1500, can't believe the price now xx
I love the necklace you are wearing! Could you tell me what it is? Thanks! Love your videos!
It's the Hermes Gambade necklace in rose gold xx
I’m a little put off with Chanel now too. Only thing I would get from them maybe the Chanel 19 bag
The Chanel 19 definitely seems well loved! I wonder if if would become the next Chanel Boy xx

I wish I found your videos sooner lol
It's an expensive bag for sure but I'm sure you'll enjoy it xx

I think Chanel kicked themself with this price increase. This was an excellent video. Never would have thought Chanel would use a generic zipper and still charge what they do for a WOC.
Hi Nafeesa, I'm so happy you liked this video! I think Louis Vuitton makes some of the best zippers💛
The Vanity is on my vision board. I think it is lovely and much more my style then the classic double flap. Thanks for this info
Wow I might actually make myself a vision board, it might give me motivation to work harder 😇
Colourful Noir it definitely keeps me motivated and focused! I have a few in different places: one on my laptop screen saver, one on my room wall and one near my desk 💕 have fun with it!!!

Is the Dior in Patent leather? Thank you
What a lovely and informative video.
Thank you so much xx
Great video, Chanel timing to increase prices couldn’t be any worse. Two prices in such a small time span . I don’t agree that you need. “ history “ at Hermes yo be offered a bag . I know three people that didn’t have any history at all , and bought a Kelly and a Birkin. That’s the perception, but not really the case. Dior makes beautiful bags and have the best customer service. 😊
Agree I think this can only help Hermes and Dior
Yes I've heard some lucky people managed to get a Birkin and Kelly without a purchase history. However I think those are the rare exceptions, maybe apart from the stores in Paris xx
@@ColourfulNoir Apparently Hawaii is good for getting bags with much history as well
Colourful Noir actually two got theirs in Paris, and also in NYC lol I agree it’s rare, but I believe it also depends on the SA😊

Very informative and I LOVE you accent!

I love your voice! Sooooo calming

I would agree to buying a lady dior compared to Chanel double flap. Great recommendations.
Thank you xx
Thank you, you made very good points.

It is rumoured that their price increase is to recoup lost income during the pandemic, as they do not (or did not) offer online purchases of handbags. Their reasoning being that they did not want 'any old Joe' purchasing from them, as they prefer to '
vet their clients personally.

Hi Izza, I'm so sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience! You did the right thing xx
@@jayjaytailor i didnt really understand what they were on. What's wrong with commuting? Also i came in a car that day.. puzzled as to why they were being awful to me. I'm friendly as can be.
What do you think about Delvaux? Le Brilliant and Tempete..
Both are wonderful bags! Personally I'm more drawn to the Brilliant bags but I've heard the opening is not the easiest. Are you thinking of getting one? I've heard their craftsmanship is amazing xx
I have a medium flap and a mini. That’s enough for now.
Curated and functional, I like it 🧚♀️
I'm only interested in pre-loved Chanel (on my wishlist there is the exact vanity bag you love too), the quality got lost over the years and their cheap behaviour in such a time of crisis left me enraged. They've fallen in my opinion, and I would buy new only from other brands such Dior and YSL because at least they kept a shred of dignity.
YSL quality is really worth looking into in my opinion, and their prices are quite fair as well xx
What are your thoughts on the new Chanel small vanity case? Is it worth it? I’ve seen videos of it being compared to the Chanel minis.
I'm so glad to hear from so many like-minded people! My favourite is Birkin 25 😇
I personally like the lambskin better, it's not a very shinny leather if you're worried about it standing out too much xx
wait, the classics are mass produced? I didn't know that. that makes their price outrageous. crazy...
Your voice is so soothing 😊
You're too sweet, thank you! xx
Colourful Noir My grandmother been collecting Chanel and Hermès purses throughout her lifetime...so I will continued the collection.
