    The full video you did with Susan Jaffe was incredible. Not only can it be encouraging for dancers, but I was encouraged through it and I’m just a dance enthusiast! Katie, you may miss dancing professionally (understandably), but you would never be able to reach all the people you are and the impact is incredible. Be encouraged, keep your chin up and imagine the legacy you are creating. It’s so much more impactful than just an amazing career in ballet. You are helping to shape the dance community! Dream big! ❤️👏🏻😁

    I used to follow ABT dancers when I was younger and still involved in dance. Susan Jaffee, Leslie Brown, Alexandra Ferri . . . the list of dancers I loved is endless. Interviews like this are great because it's like revisiting an old friend, but a bit bittersweet because it shows how much time has passed between when you were a dancer and now. I almost didn't recognize her until she smiled, and then I saw her all over again.

      I don’t think that this is your point, but I want to say that ‘they’ don’t deserve any credit for being inclusive, it’s just good that they finally are. 😏 🩰

    Hi Katie!
    May I please request more 'Leg/Calves/Feet strengthening' work out videos.
    Oh and your workout videos are actually part of my routine now.
    They said that your workouts bring in some fabulous results, so I decided to try and I've been doing it daily.
    By the way I love this video. Really did brought up some new knowledge to me.

    Love this video SO much!!! Also I'm really excited to see & hear about your size/model/box # and just your overall thoughts on Gaynors! I lovvve them! (+ I believe you & I have very similar feet and are close in sizing) there are so many options, I'm still tweaking and trying new Gaynor combos years later (sleek/sculpted fit, different vamps, shank strengths, 3,4, & 5 box personally. It's overwhelming but...convenient!)

    I’m an adult beginner and I have the MDM Intrinsics. I LOVE them! They have been wonderful for strengthening my feet and are really comfortable. I know some people complain about it being harder to point their feet in them (but I have been using them since almost the beginning so I had nothing to compare it to! XD )

    SQUEEEE!!!! Oh how I love you!! Sorry I will try to contain myself. The whole ballet slipper with arch support - oh my goodness you just made it Christmas at my house! Just listened to the full interview-which was just so great! On the subject of dance medicine & science, have you heard of Lisa Howell by any chance? She’s a physiotherapist and founder of The Ballet Blog. She has such a wealth of information and knowledge for dancers on her blog, her TH-cam channel, workshops, conferences etc. If you don’t already know who she is, check her out. I think you’d be very appreciative of her work because you are a teacher/coach and such an advocate for the well being of the next generation of young dancers.

    I know you mentioned this in a video but what portable barre would you recommend? I was thinking about asking for one for Christmas but I want to know your thoughts I want one that is portable and maybe even you can take it apart for storage do you have a recommendations?

  • @autumncook301
    @autumncook301 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    But also Katy I would tell dancers to make sure they’re being correctly fitted for gaynor minden by a certified fitter because I didn’t have a good fitter and my gaynor mindens hurt so bad I couldn’t even roll through at all

    • @meowool
      @meowool 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Autumn Cook I found it really hard as I was fitted by my dance teacher when I went on pointe (I was 12 and didn't know any different) and she stocked the same shoe in different widths so i found it so hard to roll up on and they were too wide so it hurt so much I stopped pointe after 8 months because of it!

    • @autumncook301
      @autumncook301 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      meowool that’s awful sweetie try different Bloch styles when all else fails they have so many different ones also I recommend gel padding if your just starting out of not I’m not sure therefore I’m not a doctor or certified to give advice but I am a ballet dancer and know the pain so just make sure someone truly professional is fitting you and if something doesn’t feel right or hurts don’t be afraid to tell the fitter I know it may seem your being picky and pushy but these are your feet your tools as a dancer so please don’t be afraid to speak your mind. If fortunate enough you may be able to get your teacher to come with for your first fitting so keep that in mind as well

    • @autumncook301
      @autumncook301 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      meowool so she just gave everyone the same shoe with only different widths??

    Hi, Katie! Love the vid! I have a confidence question maybe you can help me with: I'm not overweight, but I could definitely be more toned. Do you think I still have a chance to get into summer intensives? Or should I still audition for the extra teaching? Love you so much!!!

    • @vangoghtothepolls7723
      @vangoghtothepolls7723 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jillian B I'm not Katie, but I may be able to help hahah
      I say as long as you're healthy and have muscle enough to exceed the expectations of the people judging you then you'll be fine! Keep on like you're training now. However if by "I could be more toned" you mean that you're not yet strong enough to do certain things then it's different.
      Physical ability trumps most other things. Technique, strength, flexibility (etc) is everything, your artistry developes as your dancing progresses. It's a matter of if you mean "I could be more toned" through an aesthetic point of view or ability point of view. Good luck with your dancing!

    • @kathryn_morgan
      @kathryn_morgan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Jillian, remember - it's never going to be perfect! If you wait until you feel you are "perfect" than you won't ever get there! So yes! Go for it! The worst that can happen is that they will say no and you can train more for the future. So please believe in yourself!

    • @jillianb2631
      @jillianb2631 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @katiefulton9456
      @katiefulton9456 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kathryn Morgan I agree! Please, Jillian, don't wait like I did and end up letting too many years pass by. I can't reiterate this strongly enough. It's a big regret in my life: waiting/working to get my body "perfect" & missing so many opportunities along the way. I send my love & best wishes to you in all you do & pursue! 😘

    I love those dark shoes. Somehow when dancers pancake their pointes it takes away from the magic of wearing a shiny satin shoe. That's just me though.

    • @mandeloo9404
      @mandeloo9404 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kathy Myers I'm obsessed with red pointe shoes. Ever since I was a little girl. With bright colored pointe shoes, skin tone is no longer an issue. Everyone but fierce traditionalists win.

  • @jasminewat2662
    @jasminewat2662 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Katy, I was wondering, which is more beneficial, barre in pointe shoes, or barre in socks? Thanksxx

    • @kathryn_morgan
      @kathryn_morgan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are both good in different ways. Socks help you really use your feet but pointe shoes build strength. I would alternate if you can.

    Susan Jaffe shares the story about Sylvie Guillem sitting on the edge of the stage and saying...? I listened three times and can’t figure out what word she was saying that was so mentally transformational. Anyone know?
