We caught up with the England International Manu Tuilagi, as he and his Leicester team-mates took part in a charity cricket match, which was supporting the Matt Hampson Foundation.
Good to see other countries do what NZ do, develop players from the islands and build them into worldclass players. Im samoan and even though its sad not to see them run out for the Manu team, its good to see our people succeed, where ever they maybe. Good on England
i can understand why you might have that opinion if you just see him on highlight reels, big hits, crash ball etc. But he makes good offloads and passes week in week out for leicester (watch the Eng vs NZ game for proof). He obviously has the skills needed otherwise he wouldn't be where he is. His vision will come, he's only 21. He will be the best centre in the world. No doubt.
He's only 22.... just imagine how lethal he will be at 26-27!! Right now, he can run hard, tackle hard, and offload. By then he will have developed a kicking game and an accurate long pass... imagine that!
Look the time period I put in that comment was a bit late. From 4:10 to 4:24, he says he's got the best of both worlds. He says that he gets work ethic from the English rugby culture, which DOES imply that he thinks that Polynesians don't have good work ethic. He says that Manu has good work ethic is because of going through the "English system". I'm not totally wrong am I?
He says that when he was younger, he'd go out with his big (literally as well of course) brothers and no one would mess with him!?! No way. He must be lying.
Actually if you look at Manu's legs, they are outrageously large. Sonny Bill has big legs, but Manu has legs bigger than most props. Legs make up a lot of your body weight. In any case, Manu has gigantic arms and a bulging chest - he benched 190kg at about 18-19 years old. I reckon Sonny Bill looks bigger because of his height, and no doubt he's a big player, but Manu is even heavier. I really hope Sonny Bill comes back to Union, I want to see him and Manu run into each other...
The RFU website has the official weights of all of the England rugby players, and they list Manu as 112kg. At 6 foot 1 that is ridiculously heavy, especially since he's a back, and has very little fat on him.
You guys are both wrong manu tuilagi passing is way ahead of Jamie Roberts and he tackles like a bus. Don't know what you guys both watching but the lions test show how good manu tuilagi really is and he will start over Roberts in the first test against australia
You're horribly wrong... the average Samoan is 78-79kg. Manu is 112kg. That means they obviously don't come much bigger than him. Obviously his brothers are something else... Big Henry is 128kg, and The Samoan looseheads are 120kg a piece, and the tightheads are 140kg, but compared to normal Samoan (or any) men, Manu is an absolute titan.
Ironic, as your profile picture is Sonny Bill Williams, who always picks money... how many times has he switched clubs who offer more money? He's even switched codes for more money...
While this is probably true; I can tell you now, he is by no means considered a big samoan... He is incredibly athletic for his size, no doubt. But after living in NZ, i assure you they come much bigger than this
His passing and catching is fine, his vision isn't that great as seen in the six nations vs wales. But he is to chris ashton as chris ashton is to a toddler with catching, passing and especially tackling.
I see where you're coming from. Even without a pro environment, Samoan rugby players do have good work ethic. Good work ethic doesn't come from pro environments. I was only trying to put my view out there, not trying to make a big deal. I still don't have a good impression on Bob Chuter. '
thieves? pretty much all international teams have foreign players in their squad, Jonah lomu was one, he was tonga, it is where their loyalty lies i guess, who they want to play for, not who the country wants them to play for
if all our talent is in league as you said why isn't there 1 decent NRL player??? some of them do have some skills, some nice backyard tricks? but if all the big brutes and prisoners as you called us in rugby league, why are all the leaguies so light footed into contact?? why are they so afraid to get a shoulder on that they push people over with their hands??? why do they run backwards??? why do they do chip kicks instead of taking the contact?? please tell me why.
wow 2 comments to 1 ok. there are more then flick passes to back yard trick. My opinion sonny bill is overrated how many flick passes did he throw that went a stray. You might notice he stopped doing flick passes and started doing 1 handed basketball passes to get the ball back.
George Chuter at 4:16 implies that Polynesians don't have good work ethic, and that the English culture has good work ethic. Bad first impression on this dude.
I know the NRL steals all of the rugby players espcially country rugby players. Ok i'll find a clip of someone running backwards (this should not be hard) and Ben Robinson.. doesn't go good in rugby union either... He should never have been picked for the wallabies.
"the baby of the family"
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
You keep inspiring us Manu...from Germany. Luv what U R Doing!
Good work Manu, you can be whatever you want to be out there. Congrats on the big accomplishment.
Cheers

Familly dinner at the Tuilangi's must be fun.

Cant wait to see him smash the french tomorrow!
@fednis Being born and raised in Samoa, I understand they come bigger as well.
He's only 22.... just imagine how lethal he will be at 26-27!! Right now, he can run hard, tackle hard, and offload. By then he will have developed a kicking game and an accurate long pass... imagine that!
Manu ppl dont mess cos of what he said, your huge and supa strong m8
can't believe he's the same age as me. Many gains still left to be made apparently
Matt Hampson is the man.
His English has seriously improved!
Samoans love him
Rarely out of the treatment room

Yea, I'm just thinking of Sonny-Bill, hes 6ft 3 and 109kg, and he looks bigger than Manu.
For those who think of Rugby as a Violent Sport.
All Real Rugbiers have hearts with the size of the Moon.
no that's a good match up! :)
He says that when he was younger, he'd go out with his big (literally as well of course) brothers and no one would mess with him!?! No way. He must be lying.

Damn, really wished he played for Samoa. Can't get em all, at least Samoans are getting out there. CHEEEEHOO!

you're totally wrong, he didn't imply that at all.

How do you feed 7 Kids to become that big??
His accent is a mix of freshie and pommy lol
His passing and catching is fine, his vision isn't that great as seen in the six nations vs wales. But he is to chris ashton as chris ashton is to a toddler with catching, passing and especially tackling.

if all our talent is in league as you said why isn't there 1 decent NRL player??? some of them do have some skills, some nice backyard tricks? but if all the big brutes and prisoners as you called us in rugby league, why are all the leaguies so light footed into contact?? why are they so afraid to get a shoulder on that they push people over with their hands??? why do they run backwards??? why do they do chip kicks instead of taking the contact?? please tell me why.

Samoan cross english accent is horrible haha, Good bunch of players though!
i remember when he first started playing for england.. a lot of people saw him a traitor, instead of being proud of him.
I know the NRL steals all of the rugby players espcially country rugby players. Ok i'll find a clip of someone running backwards (this should not be hard) and Ben Robinson.. doesn't go good in rugby union either... He should never have been picked for the wallabies.
people that are bigger than manu cant move and run the way he does.
