Today marks the fortieth anniversary of the death of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton. On December 4th, 1969, Chicago police raided Fred Hamptons apartment and shot and killed him in his bed. He was just twenty-one years old. Black Panther leader Mark Clark was also killed in the raid. While authorities claimed the Panthers had opened fire on the police who were there to serve a search warrant for weapons, evidence later emerged that told a very different story: that the FBI, the Cook County states attorneys office and the Chicago police conspired to assassinate Fred Hampton. This is the American history our schools refuse to teach us. I'm embarrassed that growing up, I only learned of the Black Panther Party through media and television.

I have Jeffrey’s Haas’ book “The Assassination of Fred Hampton.” The book is an informative and interesting work of literary history.
It was a crazy time when young people where authentically political, no social media warriors, no materialistic rappers, no people stood on the corner filming with mobile phones, people got up,got educated, got into it, got involved, black, brown, White and yellow. How things have changed for the worse, It seems like it was a different universe
