  • Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to show you how I added stretchy material into pants for maternity wear. My customer brought me this job and I thought it would be very important to show alterations to make pants more comfortable for pregnancy, or maternity clothes alterations because it's a vital job to be able to do for our clients or close ones in our community!

    Quality maternity clothing in technical fabrics is a majorly untapped market. My last pregnancy I was due at the end of the summer in the southern US. I could not find any maternity shorts in lightweight, wicking fabric anywhere on the whole internet, let alone in a store. Everything maternity pants was denim or long stretchy/spandex leggings even in summer. I don't do tight or black in the summer-- way too hot even when I'm not pregnant! I'd have paid big bucks for a pair of maternity shorts in a technical fabric. The world is full of pregnant people living in hot climates or simply living active lives and need clothing that doesn't chafe or soak up sweat! How is there not a single brand making maternity clothing in lightweight, loose, and moisture wicking fabric?? Maybe my calling in life is to create that brand.

      Totally agree! Including the last statement. Think about it. Pregnant people deserve better. 💭💭💭

    Just found this tutorial at a time when i need it most: my daughter inlaw and 2 neices all pregnant at the same time. This will be perfect to help them all thank you again. Everything is explained fabulously. i had a rough idea how, but you have confirmed i will be doing it exactly the right way. Your videos are amazing. Thank you again. You have saved me numerous times with correct technique confirmation.

    I thoroughly approve of you moving the pockets! They came up really well. Its been far more years than i care to remember since i was last pregnant, but i would have thought maternity clothes would have evolved. I swear designers forget about basic human needs once they start designing .

      Yes! Exactly. I agree. I even think maternity clothes Today are less comfy. Oh, well...

    I thought you were going to use the rubber of the gloves to rub against the threads to “clean” the pockets.

    Could you please add the link to the video with the sticky tape so material won't stretch?

    I'm watching because after a surgery and internal scar tissue I can't wear clothing putting any pressure on my abdomen. So I'm trying to figure out how to wear nice tailored clothing that don't cause pain. I'm thinking something like maternity pants would work.

    what type of sewing machine did you use?

  • @Almagemini

    Do you use a stretchy thread for sewing the channel on the ribbing panel? Wouldn't the stitches pop if it is a straight stitch?

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use seraflex thread. I didn't mention as, in this case it isn’t crucial as long it's well pulled while sewing. Cheers 😊
