I gotta try this swedish finish sometime. If you apply a light coat of the sealer is it fine to paint over that with a good masonry paint in a year or two? Can you stucco over sealed concrete if you need to patch?
Hi Julio, I am rarely a fan of sealers, because it gives you limited options in the future, if it gets bad in years I just freshen it. Up with my old school cement paint, then it looks new again, thanks mike
Why are you using such a small sized brush for the painting part? Would it not be more efficient to use a large brush that gives more coverage and holds more of the paint in the bristles?
Did you use straight Portland for the scratch coat and the top coat? Rewatched the video and didn’t catch where you say what you used. Thanks again Mike!
Hi Thor. I would have to review it again. But usually personally I use half Portland and half s mortar, every job I might use a different mixture, but I do show what I used on every video, thanks mike
Great video as always Mike. That Portland paint is the best stuff ever. One of my favorite tips from you. It turns even the most sandy/dry concrete on my foundation back to a solid surface to bond new concrete to. Like you say always, it's also great for covering the "sins" of other patch jobs haha
Hi Kyle, I this case I usually wet the surface first and mix Portland into a paint , paint it on the wet surface and then plaster over it, glue is more of a new school thing , I do use it but not often, thanks Mike
What is "portland"? I love this video and this is exactly the issue im facing with my foundation. What consistency do you mix the Portland? It looks like a putty consistency.
Mike, I have a stone wall foundation that leaks like a sieve when it rains. I'm wanting to go outside and dig down about 2 feet around the foundation (in probably 10' sections at a time), cream it with some stucco then seal it and bury it again. Then I'm going to tuck point it on the inside to sure up the stones from being loose in some areas. Would you say this is a plausible solution to my leaky foundation? I'm just wondering if this could run the risk of the foundation bulging or blowing out when I dig out the sections since I will be unpacking the dirt against the foundation. Please kindly let me know what you think if you don't mind. Thanks for all your videos you post, they are very helpful indeed.
Hi SIlas, 90% of the water problems in foundations that I see is "no Raingutters" or the land is not pitched away from the foundation and the water settles against it. I would check that first, I hope it helps, thanks mike
Thanks for the reply, Mike. Yea I fixed the rain gutters last year but there is an issue with the dirt not sloping away from the house. I planned on sloping the dirt away once I stucco'ed down a few feet because it would be easier to dig it out now before I add more dirt to create the slope but do you think I would be fine to just slope the dirt and forget digging down a few feet to get a good stucco on the outside. That would be the easier option but would create more work if that doesn't fix it and I do have to dig it out after all. I'm heading down in the basement today to prepare the stone for tuck-pointing and then tuck-point hopefully tomorrow. I guess I can just stucco all the walls inside the basement and apply a water sealer to prevent water seepage. Let me know what you think and thanks for your helpful advice and videos.
Hi Silas, I think you are on the right track, pitching the dirt away is a big thing, I am sure you will figure it all out, I appreciate it. keep going on, mike
Hi Mike, First I would like to say that your videos are great. I’m local to you so it’s great to see what you do for our particular area. I have the same situation like you had in this video, I have an old foundation with paint on it and won’t come all off. I’m going to used the tools you used to try and get some of the paint off and notches to help grab the cement. I noticed you use a bonding agent with the Portland as the first mix to put on, but what kind of mix is used after that step. Do you use the same mix, Portland and the bonding primer, straight Portland, or was this a mix with the Portland sand and mortar S. I greatly appreciate the help and advice. Thank you!!
Hi Lauren, after I put my bonding agent and I go right over it usually with two parts sand to one part cement S mortar is usually fine sometimes I will use Portland and I’ll get a little shrinkage but I know it’s going to stick I would do a little experiment thing where you can’t see it and wait a couple days to see what happens it takes Cement a couple days to harden , Thanks Mike
I noticed you used a concrete bonding adhesive this time when doing the portland adhesive - when should I do this as opposed to just using the portland cement?
Hi Viadmier, when It has some paint on it would be my best answer to make the portland paint a little more gluey, but it is one of those things you got to feel when you think it might help, if that makes sense, it makes it dry a little slower and might be a bit more sticker, My opinion, thanks mike
You said when you made it rich it will have the stress cracks, so is the 2nd coat made less rich? You used your normal 1/2 mortar, 1/2 portland, 2 units of sand for both coats?
Hey Mr Haduck. Good video. Got questions: What happened with the ants? Once u finish the job do they get back? how do u chase them away? and what happens if portland paint (drops of it) gets in your eyes? Did it happen to u? Thanks.
Hi El Senor, I try and remove all the cavities like a dentist so there is no where for insects to congregate, I would say that it is common in those kind of foundations, and seen it in block also, I never remember getting portland in my eyes but when I did get anything in my eyes I would flush it out with the hose, I think a good thing to do would be where glasses, I hope it helps, thanks mike
Nice job Mike..I never use latex sealer its water based how will water keep out water.?I used liquid silicone pure clear as water and all masonary totally dry hit 2 or 3 times will last in the weather for ever with that sprayed on it,my front brick stoop was just 31 years old and all the winters all the ice and rain the summer rain and heat it is as it was the first day.And now having said that the Government outlawed that product ,but the new latex sealer has 5% liquid silicone in it ,really why the hell is that if its so dangerous? Because the liquid straight is so good u never have to go back on repairs unless someone hits it with a car or truck.Just blowing off some steam Mike have a good one.
My husband and I want to seal and paint our house some of the crack on the concrete are showing. I believe we need to pressure wash first. What sealant would you recommend?
Hi Teresa, I have a video series out on how I repair or fix old stone foundations,And concrete foundations so look that up and I think that I’ll help you, thanks, Mike
Preparing the surface for the actual repair is 90% of the work I've ever done doing almost anything I've ever done. It's kind of like when Grandma spends a day and a half prepping and cooking Thanksgiving Dinner...and about 30 minutes eating that dinner.

I keep hearing one has to use lime mortar due to it's porous properties. I respect your vids but you and other professionals have been using Portland cement and rapid setting type s or n mortar. Could you comment on this the more research I do the more questions I jave
Hi Mike, been watching your vids for a couple of months, sure taught an electrical guy a lot about masonry. Quick quetion- I used the Portland, acrylic ageny and water primer- thing is it goes flat looking in 2 minutes not at all 'wet' looking. Am I doing something wrong? I do spray it with more water but now it dripsand removes the primer.
Hi Henry, I usually show the mixes for every job, this I think I used 1part - half s mortar half Portland to 2 parts mason sand ( one cement to 2 sand). Other masons in other areas would not agree, but it works for me,,thanks, mike

Can we do with 100yr old interior concrete foundation? Interior surface in areas of cellar foundation
Hi driver. I have some of them on these foundation repair videos, something might fit, thanks Mike
Great video. Thanks.
thanks T, I appreciate it. mike
Mike Haduck makes sense, thanks Mike!
You said when you made it rich it will have the stress cracks, so is the 2nd coat made less rich? You used your normal 1/2 mortar, 1/2 portland, 2 units of sand for both coats?
Yes chilly, let the first coat shrink a day or a few and then the next coat shouldn’t, just keep it light, mike
Can you stucco over paint if you use wall bond. Or synthetic stucco. Thanks
Hi mike , you could buy a stucco paint, everything depends on what your trying to do, most time I get the old paint off first, thanks mike
“ NO BIG DEAL. Should be a T Shirt. ! 👍

Thank fire, your right all the oil based paints and sealers are disappearing and the new stuff ain't measuring up, thanks mike
Do you have to seal concrete every time it's applied as a plaster?
Hi Andrew, I almost never seal it, sometimes paint but never sealed it, thanks Mike
Hi Kandy, like painting cars, that's the way to look at it, Mike
@@MikeHaduck Your videos are among the most informative, common sense based, skill sharing videos anywhere on this platform. It takes a lifetime to get so good at stuff that you are able to make it simple for the inexperienced person, to do a project and develop on-the-job self-training, that leads to a successful conclusion. I don't get angry but a short second when things don't go just right. I have learned far more from my failures than I ever did when things were just too easy. As a man, I'm okay with that.
Thank you for always responding to comments. You're a good guy.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words, God bless, Mike
Thanks Mike
Thanks Deuce, Mike

What product did you use for the mortar layer , after the bonding agent paint and before the sealer
Hi Eric, same as first coat, thanks, mike
Nice work,Ann from Dalarna Sweden
Thanks Ann, nice to hear from Sweden, Mike
I keep hearing one has to use lime mortar due to it's porous properties. I respect your vids but you and other professionals have been using Portland cement and rapid setting type s or n mortar. Could you comment on this the more research I do the more questions I jave
Hi Mike, I did a video series called "what cement should I use" mike haduck, part 2 should answer a lot of your questions, thanks Mike
Do you travel to New Jersey?
Hi Woe, thanks but I am overwhelmed with I have now, Mike

Great work would love the opportunity to work with you one day
Thanks Mikel, I am a slave to fashion, lol I appreciate it. mike
Hi , I don't know exactly what you mean, but I show what products I use and how I use it, thanks Mike
How I make grape juice part 1. Just a suggestion. Once again A+++
Excellent Fella smart.
thanks Mike, I appreciate it. mike
You mentioned you used a strong mix;what is that?
Hi Henry, I usually show the mixes for every job, this I think I used 1part - half s mortar half Portland to 2 parts mason sand ( one cement to 2 sand). Other masons in other areas would not agree, but it works for me,,thanks, mike
Mike how do you keep those sparrows cheeping in the background from eating all those grapes? They sure won't leave mine alone.
Hi Fat, they get their share, lol thanks, mike
If you were to visit Sweden where do you go?

Hi Charlie, I appreciate it. but been busy, thanks mike
Do you ever use a pressure washer?
Hi Marc, I don’t own one but it is a good idea is some situations, thanks mike
@@MikeHaduck Thanks Mike!
Why don't you use SBR?
Hi John, not sure what SBR is, but if it is wire there is a place for it as in my other videos, but my techniques are what they been doing for thousands of years before wire, I appreciate it, mike
@@MikeHaduck it's a bonding agent. Add it with the cement makes it stick better. I thought I watched you use it on a different job you uploaded. Thanks for your reply on Christmas day. Merry Christmas to you.
Hi John, when I was young there were no bonding agents, and i guess you can say if it ain't broke don't fix it, now i know the stucco guys use it a lot and if i think it helps I will add some, personal choice, whatever works, thanks mike
How much does it cost to do that on a whole house?
Hi Sergio, I would say it all depends on the house, 80% is usually labor, the cement and sand is cheap. and you can do a little every day or two, I hope it helps, thanks mike
Mike Haduck Masonry thanks Mike
Hey mike what kind of fish you eat haduck
