I saw Charlie several times in the 70s. This era of the CDB wasn't much like the later part of Charlie's career. In the old days they were a Southern Rock Jam Band. Charlie's arrangements for live performances was heavily influenced by the Allman Brothers Band. This is a great example of that. Love this song!

I was lucky to see The Charlie Daniels Band perform several times. The first show I saw was in 1974. They were opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Golden Earring was also there that night. CDB played first. His albums were always good, but a live show was always amazing. I think they closed with this song in '74. I know they did in a couple of other shows I saw. I became a life long fan that night. They were an incredible band in the 70's

R.I.P. Charlie! You was da man! Been digging your music since I was about 14 or so, I’m 60 now! When vinyl albums were the thing, I had about every album of CDB and about every Southern Rock artist there was at the time! Anyways, R.I.P. Charlie, and Tom Crain too! And Taz too! Sorry Taz, I forgot you the first time brother!

Seen Charlie 25+ times. Always a gentleman. Was pulling into the parking lot at Westbury and he was next to us in his bud. We hung out the window to say hello and he waived and tipped his hat to my wife. Class act

I had the Fire on the Mountain album in the early 70's-this song is one of the reasons I wanted to play the guitar, wound up having a career as a guitar player.
I have seen this video before, it's right when Tom got in the band.
Barry Beckett is the other guitar player on the album version.
Charlie was on the same level as Duane Allman, but never got credit for that.
    RIP

This was included within the album cover of "Fire on the Mountain" from '74. Recorded from the first Volunteer Jam. I never knew it was included in the album jacket until my water heater busted one night and I had to scramble in the morning to rescue my albums from getting wet. The EP fell out of the sleeve and later on I played it. That was 1980! I'd had it the whole time without knowing it existed. It was only included in the earliest pressings of the album. Phenomenal performance!!

Interesting. I've had the album since about the late 70s or early 80s and didn't know No Place to Go was a limited inclusion. My album is Epic 34365. Love the song--powerful version--and the whole album. One of my favorites. Do you know why they didn't include it later?

Being a guitar player myself the best live version of this song in my opinion is on the Fire On The Mountain album with Barry Barnes on guitar he was a heavy player for that time and he and Charlie tore that song up. With all do respect to Tommy Crain who was more clean toned & Country infuenced and a fine player in his own right. Charlie luved his contributions to the band. Just listen to his Tommy Crains solo on the studio version of Texas what a tone... Glenn

Like Marshall Tucker Band, CDB is under-appreciated and virtually undiscovered; both played a much more important role in southern rock than they were given credit for - everyone just knows about Allmans and Lynerd Skynerd. A shame.

Charlie Hayward was the only Bassist that Charlie Daniels ever had in his Band. He was one of the only original founding Members that stuck with the CDB from day one all the way up through all the years until Charlie Daniels passed away last year.

Love the CDB, truly indeed, but if you don't see the Allman Brothers Band influence here, or if you don't acknowledge the ABB influence on the entirety of so-called "Southern Rock", then you might be blind. Just sayin'. The ABB was the first - others came after.
