    TIP FOR UNDOING THE TABS. take the engine turn it upside town, put the bumper on the edge of the table, then put large flathead on the tab (as large as the tab itself) and STRIKE down, both will pop out. Repeat at the other end this time putting the hook up on the table. Takes 10 seconds to do without any apparent damage.

      Thanks for sharing. I definitely marred mine up using a smaller screwdriver that dug into the plastic.

    This is an old video - glad I found it. For others, who might have the same problem: my two little front wedges were jammed - I ended up breaking them off, and they are STILL stuck in their original spot… same with the back. No way we’re they going to come out with a wedge, so brute force did the trick.
    The little stews still hold down the train though, so if that’s what it takes to get it going again, it’s worth it. I also removed those little plastic pieces over the wheels, which are supposed to prevent dirt from getting in and stop the train automatically - ours kept jamming. Now I’ll get more dirt in - but it’s easy peasy taking off the top since the wedges are busted, haha - so that works for me, and the train runs smoothly!

    Got our train working, thank you! The smaller red tabs on the back of ours ended up breaking off in my attempt to get it open, but it still holds together fine. Unfortunately in our case the little gear on the motor shaft is partially broken. I took out the broken piece that was locking the whole thing up and it works okay now but I feel like it's only a matter of time before the rest of the gear comes off the shaft and it stops working again.

    Hi, i know you posted this video rather long ago. I have this duplo train for some time and have been wondering how to salvage the train. Always felt that it will be a waste to discard the whole system just becos of the "faulty" train. When i finally decided to do some research on how to repair, your website is the only reference. I was sceptical about my ability but i thought to myself - make or break. Fast forward - i took awhile to figure out but it was definitely rewarding when i saw the train fixed! 🎉
    I just want to really thank you for the tips 😊

    Hi guys!
    I have just repaired our train. This video was partly useful. Started with front side, managed to press the red thing while pushed an other screw where it is shown.
    But the front side was even harder and finally both red thing was broken. BUT! I am just writing to encourage everyone dont be affraid to try hard coz the rear red things dont hold/fixing anything.

    Thanks a lot for this video! I had a different problem - train sounded like when green button is being pushed constantly even though it wasn't and wheels wouldn't move. I opened the train, cleaned contacts under green button and it start to work like before.
    I owe you a big smile from my son ;-)

      I really do love hearing other people say they went for it. My approach to all things like this is "it's already broken. What am I gonna do, break it again?" May as well tear it open and see what you can find. Happy to hear you got it!

    Thanks for sharing this info. My son has the train without the push button, it works but doesn't seem very powerful even with new batteries. Hopefully it's just dirt slowing down the gears because it's one of his favourite toys. Will give this a try, thanks!

    The one I have has a sensor attached to the front axle so when the train derails and the front wheel does not turn the engine shuts off automatically.

    Thank you for this video. I recently had a problem with a similar train: the wheels would not move when I pressed the button, but the sounds worked and I could feel the motor vibrating.
    I opened the train according to the directions on the video and then I also took apart the section holding the motor and the gears. To do this, I first removed the two screws near the top, then I pried the wheels off (put a flathead screwdriver between the wheel and the black plastic), and then I removed the two additional screws hidden by the wheels. I then disassembled everything and found that the plastic gear attached to the motor pin (the part that turns) had come loose. So what was happening was that the motor would spin, but the gear attached to the motor would not. I then superglued that little gear to the motor pin, let the glue dry, reassembled, and everything worked. Also note that the front wheels have a little magnet to tell the circuit board the front wheels are spinning. If the train is not on the ground, the back wheels will spin for only a few seconds, but putting the train on the ground (and causing the front wheels to turn) will cause the train to move for much longer.
    I share this just in case someone else has a similar problem of wheels not turning, but the motor clearly vibrating.

    I recently acquired 3 duplo trains. I was able to get 1 of them apart, but the first one has a messed up gear, the second one is corroded and the third one doesn't have sound but don't worry because the wheels are squeaking SO loudly. I hope I can get at least one to work :(

    • @MCWojtekk
      @MCWojtekk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are designed so kids do not manage to open them.and hurt themselves or break sensitive parts. Not to prevent repair. To prevent repair they would add breaking points or glue it together. Both is not the case. one just has to learn to pry things open. Practice on some actually broken toys, you might need 15min of practice. If you are giving up because it is not trivial on the first attempt, well, you will never repair anything really.

    I wonder how to modify this engine to add switch changing riding direction. I love to play with my daughter when we ride train on open tracks from one end to another. With such a switch w could leave train on tracks and let it go back without swapping its direction

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We just do a reversed switch loop on each end of the track so the train turns itself around.

    Found at last :) Thanks for this video. It is a real help as I only
    suspected it disassembles like that. I don't want to brake some plastic.
    You say it stopped working just like that? My is still running but only
    lifted from the tracks. After I put in on the tracks it moves for some
    time and then starts to rattle as I would hold the weels. I suspect my
    kids helped the gears to worn down. Or something happens with that two
    breaks. I'm not sure you noticed. They are almost touching rear wheels.
    If you push them they block the wheels and they rattles again. We will see
    when I have some time.
    BTW mayby you or your kids would like to watch some of my movies. My channel was created for my first son. It's with videos he liked to watch. First with trains then with other machines , now with fire figrters and so on.
    P.S.
    I see it's not far from 1 mln views.
    Good job :)
    Greeting from Poland.

I appreciate your efforts trying to explain it, but sadly it doesn't work for me. Sincerely, a frustrated dad.

    those clips are so stupid. put screws and no clips or the opposite... it's a shame. you can open it but u'll ruin in some way the plastic near the clips. I hate these things, it's just stupid: lego if u don't want I open your train just glue it!

    • @DaKILLaGod
      @DaKILLaGod 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the train is not intended to disassembly.. the glue would not withstand the impact forces of many crashes, so the tabs are made massive to endure whatever kids do with the toy.. in my opinion it is made perfectly and i believe that they tested various ways of assembly and various ways of dropping/throwing that thing repeatedly before mass production..

    This train is ugly by design. Afer 4 years of not usage battery leaked due to resistanse of circuit which circuit is not open when train is not enabled. After changing battery did not worked. Disasembled thanks hint from comment here. Did not contact one of battery. After contact sound has started to work, but did not move. Later on it started to drive. Now is ok. I have simmilar not lego train, and has mechanical switch. Battery did not leak and has worked after 4 years not used
