Currently doing a real life recontruction build to the correct proportions, however I notice that if you build the roofs in parts and try to later join it together the seam line doesn't always merge it as a continued piece. Have you notice this?
Yes i have, and it's gotten slightly worse since update 0.1.2 from a few days back, where it used to happen rarely it now seems more frequent. I think it is on the bug tracker though last i checked, so hopefully the dev team will get rooves sorted for us soon! Also awesome build aspirations, i plan to move on to real life proportions when i get a bit more infrastructure beneath my feet

Can You build this in the desert?
Yes you totally can! If you want a water feature you'll want to build near an oasis, but i think this build would look great in any biome :)
It takes SOOOOOO long to get that tileset though....
about 5-7 hours after creating new character
