I've thought about doing this on my local canal with something like a Hare's Ear or a PTN, but the water is always very stained, so I'm not sure the fly would be seen
Use pink colors in your flies when the water is stained. I know a squirmy wormy isn't liked by many fly fishermen but pair it with a silver bead and bream will go crazy for it.
It will work, but you have to pay close attention to your line. I've gotten bream from deeper water with flies before and they suck up the fly from the bottom when you pause retrieving for a second or two.
