    Episode 85 of Love At First Scent
    This was a TH-cam Live broadcast streamed on Saturday 2nd May 2020. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
    In this episode, I covered Serge Lutens Des Clous Pour Une Pelure.
    Here's a link to the Penhaligon's review mentioned in this video: • Penhaligon’s Babylon &...

    Here's the blotter update...
    I realise the clove-mandarin combo won't be to everyone's tastes, but I'm completely taken with it. It stays consistent and clear just about all the way through to the final stages of the drydown. A suggestion of a nutmeg note muscles in on the action too. The incense-pine keeps wafting in and out of 'view'. And the whole thing remains endearingly quirky and surprising. Well worth checking out.

    Just purchased this after watching your review - I’m really enjoying it, I probably would have blind bought on colour alone but a really beautiful fragrance / thank you.

    I have just blind bought this one after watching your review. Amazing indeed. It does not pretend to be natural. The emerald green color for a citrus fragrance tells everything. And I like it.

    In France you say that something is worth nails (des clous) when it is worthless. But we also call "clous de girofle" this spice that is. ..well... do you say cloves ? Can't remember. "Une pelure" here refers to orange peel. At the Palais Royal store I was told it was his way to refer to this habit at christmas : you plant cloves in an orange, just for the smell of it. This costs nothing ("des clous" 😁) but is worth remembering because it talks about Christmas, happy moments, warmth in the cold weather I suppose. Hence the name ! (And yes, the cheapness of thé orange is here and for a good reason). I hope this could make thé intention behind this fragrance clearer ! Thanks for your vidéos !

      Veronique -- this is wonderful, thank you. It makes complete sense. And yes, cloves is correct.

    Really just sweet orange juice with rind, clove and nutmeg. Yes the orange is a bit artificial but the rind prevents it from becoming too artificial. Can be very balanced between the orange and spices but sometimes my nose detects the spices as heavier than the orange.

      @@Persolaise Oh is it? It's still available in Singapore. It's a less metallic and shrill Baptême du Feu without the scrumptiously sweaty animalic funk; less deep, complex and rich; more simple, linear, casual and more suitable for day time usage.

    This SL fragrance has just appeared on the Jersey based discount site, All Beauty. I'm always intrigued by the mention of a carnation note...
    They are also selling discounted bottles of DeProfundus, Borneo 1934 and a few other 'investment' level SL bottles. They even have Fille en.? Aig... Pine needles. Please excuse me for backing down on spelling that one. Oeillet took me a while to learn. 😀

    So...here goes: Des Clous Pour Une Pelure is a triple entendre! It could mean, cloves for a skin (pomander); nails for the peeling (DIY stylee); or wearing nails as a coat (a punk orange wearing a coat of nails). Phew! Why does Serge do this to us?! Lol.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, that's brilliant, thank you. I think the final meaning you offer is especially apt in this situation.
      Thanks for watching.

      @@Persolaise I’m French so I can say without a doubt that it does not mean , pomander, or that it’s not even about nails ... sorry to contradict. He made a joke with the clove and the orange skin whose are the principal fragrance of this perfume. A possible double acceptable meaning would be : clou = nothing pelure = an old coat = paying nothing for an old coat wich is a kind of « old street French » . Regards . Ps the third note wich does the bridge as you called it , is nutmeg

      @@iziablue2Bretville I'm going to have to contradict your contradiction I'm afraid, Izia. I'm aware of this idiom of which you speak (je suis trilingue depuis ma plus tendre enfance). But it is incongruous with Serge's nomenclature philosophy which in almost every instance is a reference to what's in the bottle. So, a hint at ingredients in a more recondite and arty fashion. Hence my preference for pomanders and orange peels rather than flea-bitten coats and spendthriftiness 😁

    • @iziablue2Bretville
      @iziablue2Bretville 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@-HRH la preuve que tu n es pas complètement trilingue apparemment. Désolée c est ma langue natale donc au bout d un moment je crois savoir ce que je dis . Une autre française a commenté la même chose il y quelques mois .... ^^ et moi aussi je connais bien la maison Lutens. Si on veut avoir un français précis lorsque qu on parle des ongles on dira « rognure » et non « pelure » . Bref ^^

    When i first smelt this one, I burst out laughing, it immediately brought an image of eighties big hair, bright happy orange dancing in the middle of dance floor🍊😄I agree the colour of anti freeze is rather deliberate to cause a shock as the colour of this scent is almost opposite😉

      Agreed on the masculine side of this one. In the drydown I got a very much 'clean masculine' vibe. Too bad, because my initial impression was Holy Grail --but I really have a problem with straight up masculine although unisex can be my favorites. And, I definitely get that 'cheap' note mentioned in the video. It is compelling and off putting at the same time.
