Totally concur...it's not just the extraordinary song; it's her voice that makes it so very special. I can't imagine anyone else doing this nearly as good as her. Perhaps Emmy Lou Harris or Maria Muldaur but still not nearly as good as this...

Oh God I remember......gramma was born 1902 an we watched the comet an full luner eclipse........Spokane Washington 1986........she remembered it as a 7 yr ol kid on the farm in Ritzvillle, WA .......... saw it twice!! .wow mary is so cool
Very nice video - great quality. MCC is Americas best singer/songwriter! Beautiful in every way. Regarding the 'noise": at about 2:25 you'll see a guy walk behind the piano and MMC, then we hear the noise (where he's brushed against an amp like Eliteguitarschool stated), then you see the same guy exit at 2:59. Still a beautiful clip. Love that gorgeous guitar too! Thanks!
I use to slip the studio recording of this song into my bluegrass radio show playlist in the mid 90's even though it was from a "country" record. My music director would get so ticked and say SHE'S NOT BLUEGRASS! DON'T PLAY HER ANYMORE! A few weeks would pass and I would play it again! I played the song because of the storyline from the South & the fact of all the acoustic instruments on the song. I don't think there is any electric instruments used but there may be an electric bass on the song. It is close enough to bluegrass for my taste. Mary Chapin Carpenter has a tremendous amount of respect for bluegrass music and its artist! My favorite MCC song!
Lots of memories here. There is a website I go to that has photos from that era,. They are by a woman who a great photographer and one of my favourites is of her younger sister taken in 1904 when the sister was 10 years old. She is standing on the porch of there house. Just a young girl with all her hopes and dreams and life ahead of her. In January 1910 the younger sister died of diphtheria. Everyday I pass the same house that has changed over the years and wonder what she saw.
Just saw last week.....been trying to find out what make of guitar that SB is but no luck so far! Maybe a Huss & Dalton since she lives in Virginia where they`re made?
She doesn't need to worry about what she is wearing, people like her because she has a wonderful and unique voice and her songs are great. Close your eyes if you don't like the way she dresses. She is GREAT and beautiful no matter what she wears. And she has been around for quite sometime.

Much of MCC's music has at least touch of Cajun styling in it. And everything goes better with a little Cajun spice! Even Bluegrass!
