- Welcome back to Ivaintures!
This is part 2 of my adventure in Goree Island. It was quite a sobering experience. I tried to bring to light the stories and the memories of those who perished in this beautiful but haunted island of Goree.
Gorée Island is hauntingly beautiful. ‘Setting sail’ from downtown Dakar, it only takes a 30-minute ferry ride to escape the bustling city and to reach the calm safe haven that is Gorée. Nestled between scenic lanes (without cars in sight), colorful buildings and mesmerizing cliff ocean views, lies the Maison des Esclaves.
Gorée is a tiny, car-free island off the coast of Dakar, in Senegal. It’s known for its role in the 15th- to 19th-century Atlantic slave trade. On the narrow streets, colonial buildings include the House of Slaves, now a museum. The 19th-century Fort d’Estrées houses the IFAN Historical Museum, with exhibits on Senegal’s past. The Henriette Bathily Women’s Museum considers the role of women in West African society.

That was jam packed wit history, enjoyed hearing it all! This thing does not stop me from shaking my head, how Senegal becomes independent and they destroy the cannon from fear, yes fear!! They should fear and be ashamed at same time. Good job IvainTures
Thanks for watching! I was shocked to hear these stories. Thanks for watching!
Seasons Greetings. Well done Ivan, very emotional it resurfaced the memories I felt when I went to Elmina and CapeCoast Dungeons in Ghana and took a fishing boat trip on the rough Atlantic waters from the “Door of No Return “ at Cape Coast dungeon to what is now referred to as “The Door Of Return“ at Elmina in a simulation trip to get a feel what it would briefly feel like to be on the water of the Atlantic Ocean. My self and my then 88 year old mother had a true Spiritual experience at Elmina, something that my other siblings that were on the trip did not experience (feel) years later only to find out through African Ancestry DNA through my Uncle that my maternal Grandfather’s line is Akan from Ghana. We had indeed done a full circle ⭕️ right back to our origination. Thank You.🙏🏾
Excellent travail, merci beaucoup. J'ai vu tellement de vidéos de TH-camurs sur l'île, mais vous l'avez rendue très spéciale, merci beaucoup pour ça. Peace, love and understanding.
Many thanks! I appreciate that! I appreciate you watching!
Unfortunately, I can never forgive and I will never forget what the ancestors went through and had to endure. Thank you for this!

This is Monumental on the historical trail of Africans .great Education . Thank you IVain . This has been a truly big and bold Adventure educating the World , catching up with history . 🎉❤
Love your content. Visited Dakar 6 times for work and had to make that trip to the island. I'm glad you are covering it. I don't miss the gh.
Thanks so much!
This was a very emotional but educational video , and I really enjoyed it. In 1983 my grandmother visited Goree Island, I can remember the cruel events she told us about that took place there during the slave trade.
@@michaelbraddy7480 oh nice! Thanks so much for watching!

Un très grand merci pour avoir pris un guide compétent et réalisé ce documentaire filmé. Cette vidéo est très intéressante. Very interesting video about this part of history. Jai moi-même visité cette île et ces lieux chargés d'histoires. 🙏
Really great video ❤
This is emotionally amazing.
There is a book that was written by a Dutch historian Marjoleine Kars. The name of the book is ''Blood on the River'' and it details the horrors of the Berbice Slave Rebellion of 1763-1764 in current day Guyana. Guyana was first a Dutch and then a British colony. ''Blood on the River'' can be downloaded on line and it should be read by all those who have a deep interest in world history. This is not just history of Africa, Europe, Guyana, the Caribbean and the Netherlands. It's the history of the world.
Love the music to this video❤👍🏾❤️
Grate video Ivain

Very interesting topic to discover Ivian..
Thanks a lot for watching! I appreciate That!
I’ve been there and is a different feeling, but All praise is due to Allah. We did a dua there.
How can WE FORGET??? If we sleep it is likely to happen again, and in some uncivilized countries that ARABS are known to keep this mentality. So please continue to raise awareness and remind us to band together, let's not remain silent.
Thank you for this piece of history

We are Champions we are still Standing in mali 🇲🇱 the French poured Concrete in to the water 💦 drainage so the Local don’t get any water 💧 just cause they claim Their independence .
Ivaintures! I love this vlog 1&2. But puck that shit that my brothers didn't have a choice. They had a choice. Ask yourself this question! Why did our brothers and sisters jump into the sea 🌊 rather than go into slavery. Come-on! We got to take some responsibility, bro. You and I know that most Africans whenever they come to the diaspora, they refused to mix with us. This is a time for us to teach eachother. We can start that by marriage with eachother. That is our way forward. As a child growing up in the Caribbean, we always know of our roots and where we came from. Try listen to Bob Marley songs to be enlightened. Start with the song WAR. You may learn a thing or 2. As a matter of fact WAR will be a good song for this vlog
1 love ❤️ my bro.
Is this World History instead of African History?
... the audacity to "own" vacation homes on the island.....smh
Exactly!!!!!!! I was shocked !
I visited the place as a student more than two decades ago, I don’t know how people can live in that island, for me it is just an infinite nightmares. I cannot help but visualise the life of the enslaved people, the violence inflicted on them , their anxiety …. The memory of their life brings unbearable pain….
Thanks for sharing
Life goes on, remember, but I thought Goree is a UNESCO site ?
You need to do more research on history. It doesn't just start at slavery. You have to go before slavery.
Ivain, you should be checked by a doctor if possible to make sure you're okay. I just want you to be alright. Drinking hot tea with honey with a little bit of garlic can help as long as you are not allergic get well soon.
Thanks so much! I appreciate that!
Beautiful reporting about l'île de Gorée. Merci beaucoup ! But all the Signara in Sénégal weren't daughter's of young virgin slave women and not children of white slave traders men. There were in Saint-Louis some white men who were working there as administrative officials or product traders or military officers who were married to young black free women : indeed they chose the young women and demanded to their families the right to marry them. Because there weren't enough white women and they were already married. The young white boys who were born there and grew up among other local children , also married young black women when they grew up.
They sold them...who could of wrote that the slaves were sold by their own. Know one needs to guess who updates G.
I would like to know if they sold us can somebody tell me in what currency 💷 Africa have everything back then did we had trade with the european please can someone explain me . 😂😂😂
Slaves were purchased using a variety of currencies and goods, depending on the time period, location, and trade network. Some of the most common forms of currency included:
1. Cowrie Shells: Widely used in West Africa as a medium of exchange, cowrie shells were a significant currency in the transatlantic slave trade.
2. Gold: In parts of Africa, especially along the Gold Coast (modern-day Ghana), gold was used in trade, including the purchase of slaves.
3. European Coins: Various European currencies, such as Spanish dollars, British pounds, and Portuguese reais, were used to buy slaves in exchange for goods or services.
4. Barter Goods: Instead of money, traders often exchanged goods like firearms, textiles, tobacco, alcohol, and beads for slaves.
5. Commodities: Sugar, rum, and other products from the Americas were also used in triangular trade transactions involving slaves.
Each region had its own preferences based on its local economy and the influence of European traders.
🙏🏽❤️
