Dear Mr melon, I love your reviews and think your feedback (even though I sometimes don’t agree with) is greatly appreciated. Sometimes when there’s a record that just came out, I’m too lazy to listen to it. So I wait for you to make a video and say some wise melon words. Also some of your takes can give me insight on records that I’ve listened to that make me grow more fond of it, or dislike it a little more. For example, a while back I listened to the album “King Of the Mischievous South vol. 2” by Denzel curry and I thought it was an odd approach for him to go from an introspective and lyrical approach. To a more mixtapey and crunchy theme. You gave me more insight on it by saying how it was a tribute to southern rap style mixtapes, which further improved my enjoyment. Your videos are great. Keep on listening to albums melon boy. -sincerely, ZR biscuit
Tbh I didn’t really have an issue with sexxy redd’s style of hypersexual rap even though it wasn’t my cup of tea, but I have an issue with her reacting to videos of little kids singing her songs and approving of it. That doesn’t mean male rappers don’t do terrible shit, but sexxy redd still shouldn’t be reposting kids singing her songs on her own TH-cam account too.
That's kinda weak, tho. "Sure, that thing is bad, but so many others are doing it, so wagwan?!" Hypersexualization of lyrics & overdone rap cliches being a topic of criticism isn't unique to Sexxxy Red. Ppl have issues with other rap dudes doing the same type of raunchy lyrics, but isn't that Red's only selling point? I'm all for giving ALL modern rappers shit for such lyrics, it's just that smo pointed out her this time.
It was also an awful take. Just LAST YEAR Taylor had the biggest pop album in the world. Spawning a tour that’s to gross over a billion dollars. Like Taylor or not that’s the opposite of niche
I hate people who think his honesty and opinions on music can be racist, homophobic and things like that. He’s just rating music out of ten. It’s not that deep.
Many people have difficulty with listening to a different perspective and turning it into a learning experience. Instead they see the world as "those who agree with me vs those who disagree with me" and see different opinions as something hostile
There will never be a music industry mass strike. You can't build collective solidarity if you're all competing to build your own individual brands. Finding a "scab" is just a matter of promoting one of the countless aspiring musicians.
Straight up nah,I don't always agree with Fantano, but he has experience, training, and years worth of improvement. The guy commenting couldn't put together better reviews even if he had the same amount of time committed. People are WAY too cocky about their capabilities these days.
@@Lyy0n the online part it’s important. He’s been sharing his opinions publicly, with his entire face and name out there. If you think this does not have any educational or training value, you’re delusional
Musicians striking isn't gonna do shit to stop streaming. We've seen scabs in every industry and the music industry definitely won't be short of any "implants" willing to betray their fellow artists in order take that spot and money for themselves. The change HAS to come from the consumers. Either people flock to a new format that can be created in the future which better pays artists and record companies or we have to just go back to buying all of our music.
Yeah I think there's just too much music out there for a strike to be effective, unless like the top 100 artists all took their music off streaming and made it a bit movement but no way most of them give a shit.
@@boatt_swagthat’s how the actors’ strikes work. If all the big and even medium artists pulled out all together, it would definitely impact a streaming service. The problem is they have no effective union or way of coordinating simultaneously.
@@andrewhudson7108 Yeah problem is that musicians are a lot more dispersed than actors. Can't really unite to strike when no one shares a common workplace except for the internet.
i think one of the most beautiful parts about music is that somebody can connect with you despite having experiences that you don’t have a personal perspective on
"Your existence is a light 1. And the 1 is cause you are alive." "And you somehow wifed a black girl" "I'm feeling a light to decent 1 on your existence"
I’m not a huge fan of Sexy Red but if your main reason for liking an artist is the fact that said artist pisses a large swathe of people off with just their presence, that’s a pretty terrible reason to like them.
_My Reviews Are Bad_ Welll... yeah. Undeniably. Wait a second... Anthony, you still believe most of us watch you for your reviews!? Aaaaaaah... adorable! 😂😂
I strongly disagree with the swift take, exclusively because she releases a new version of the tpd every single time another female artist is close to a #1 album. If not her, her label, thrive on attention.
2:26 I don’t think this perspective has much ground. Say what you want about midnights, but that album really captured the zeitgeist in 2022, just a couple years ago. Taylor is likely still capable of being a unique and widely popular voice in the pop scene, and TTPD was *probably* just a fluke.
Probably depends on his personal life. I don’t think he would’ve gone the way of Sly where Jimi would’ve completely crashed and burned. But maybe like Clapton, he might’ve had a low point in the mid/late seventies, a period of experimenting with synths and pop in the eighties, and some serious GOAT songs in the nineties and people reassessing and appreciating him during the grunge and alt revolution.
6:26 Added factor to that is I think that regardless of Kurt's death Foo Fighters were inevitable. Grohl considered having his own band for a while, circumstances just accelerated the process. I see a possibility that Nirvana lineup would survive 1-2 albums more at most. And it is possible that Kurt's songwriting would prevail anyway, but Grohl's drumming was a really important factor in this band's sound.
regarding the assertion that your reviews are bad: i do think that you tend to miss the mark in your analysis of lyrics of female artists, specifically. your reviews fiona apple's "fetch the bolt cutters", fka twigs' "magdalene", even olivia rodrigo's "guts" all have examples of this. i don't know how much time you allow yourself to sit with a work before reviewing or what your process is, but it might be worth exploring this blindspot as there's something about songwriting/lyricism from a female perspective which you seem to consistently not pick up on. i say this who's generally neutral on your critical work (sometimes agree, sometimes i think you miss the mark). just something i noticed and wanted to share.
Isn't the biggest issue with earing from streaming services is that the Labels end up taking all the money. I read somewhere, that the artist only end up getting 15-25% of their streaming revenue and from that they also have to pay their collaborators lile producers and writers.
Why is sexyy red considered bad? I have yet to hear a coherent argument about what exactly is bad about her music. I only hear extremely subjective shit like "it's bad/mid" which is essentially "I personally don't like it."
Annoying voice, agonizingly bad singing, she's not as funny as she thinks she is, her cadences are pretty boring to the point her music is kinda monotonous. It can be covered up as a gimmick she's running with, but it doesn't make her music sound more satisfying. I'd say comparing her to someone like NBA Youngboy wouldn't be far off the mark
Well yeah youve yet to hear someone give a detailed explanation on why pigshit is gross too some things if youre not braindead are so fucking obvious you shouldnt need an explanation😂
I'll give you this, the lyricism isn't objectively good. The production isn't equal to the levels of Glorilla and Cardi B. Same with the rapping, it's below average when compared to people like Glorilla or Rapsody. Her music is considered mid because we've kind of expected better rapping from rappers like her.
Definitely agree with the Chappell Roan take. I’ve heard her music, it’s hard to avoid, and…if I didn’t know it was her I wouldn’t be able to pick it out from anything else in the genre.
After the incident at that high school, and that other one with the ballet teacher upset that her 5 year old students all kept demanding to hear pound town (let's not forget how red responded)? Yeah, I won't say there are absolutely 0 redeemable qualities, but she's definitely more problematic than some people are willing to admit. Never been fan, I guess I can respect that she's getting her bag. I'll be happy when I don't have to hear my friends bumping any of her tracks. To each their own.
Taylor was always feeding her "parasocial cult" since 2006. She made music about her personal life in 2006 and she did the same in 2024. We got Shake It Off in 2014 because that's when she officially went pop, and needed to have the pop hits you can dance to. Now she's well established in the pop world and she no longer needs to make those kind of songs.
Well she did brand her new album as sad poetic alt-pop, with the exact same songwriting and slightly different synthesizers because "sad alt-pop" artists like Lana, Billie and Mitski have been huge in the past few years. I wouldn't be surprised if her next new album (after the remakes) is a brat(taylor's version) or a chappell roan rip off. She has never been creative when it comes to concepts and images.
@@ackepaceI think you missed the part in my comment where I said, "when she officially went pop" because we all know she wasn't making just country music in 2012.
I would go farther than technically and say they're completely valid. All opinions on anything subjective are valid even if they're incredibly bizarre or insane. Like how Fantano treated Doug Walker's apparent dislike of The Wall as valid even though he expressed confusion and disbelief. I just wish more people understood that, but a lot of people get very angry when a creator they follow has a different opinion.
Yeah, music snobs suck, but I really don't get how Sexyy Red is clever, creative, fun, interesting, or funny. The occasional decent bar and mildly catchy flow isn't really enough to justify making music that sounds like every rockist's interperetation of modern hip-hop.
Being fresh out of Weezer’s Blue Album 30th anniversary tour, I can confidently say (albeit being somewhat biased, given they’re my favorite band) that the spotty discography is part of the charm. From Maladroit to non-“Pork and Beans” Red to Pacific Daydream and Pinkerton Deluxe tracks (all on top of Blue in its entirety), there was so much on the setlist last night I wasn’t expecting to hear that just felt like a pure, unabashed celebration of the good, the bad and everything in-between that Weezer has released since their classic debut, and it was a blast from beginning to end.
Brat Summer is ending, but that is just letting us ease into Pharmakon Fall! (I'm seriously so excited for Margaret's new album, and I hope you review it, we need a noise review this year!!!)
Your reviews are your opinion. The sheeple who only agree with your opinion to fit in are bad. Just look at his chat, they can be vibing and if he says he doesn’t like the song than the whole chat talks about how bad the song is.
I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY Kurt Cobain would still be in the music business if he were alive. He absolutely hated fame and was already pulling back when he died.
I don’t think Nirvana would have fell off the way these other bands have. I think Kurt and Nirvana defined music of that time and they would continue to influence with new music at least through the rest of the 90s.
So true about personal experience with music - i do think when I see that connection in film reviews it makes more sense tho as they’re often more 1:1 to a human experience vs a song
I don’t really care what you rate the albums, sometimes I agree, sometimes I don’t. I learn about music I would not have heard otherwise from your channels, you know a lot and cover a lot of genres, so I stick around whether I agree or not. 🙂↔️💕✨
Your reviews are fine. However, sometimes I don't understand the parameters you put. For example, I've seen you compare the power of a vocalist over 60 years old to when he was twenty and it's obvious that it won't be the same thing. Another thing is what is your distance or understanding of productions around the world, for example, I think that sometimes you also use parameters that apply well to the US industry, but that are different for the rest of the world whether due to lack of resources, or because there are choices in the music production processes, from writing to recording, which are permeated by choices that also concern cultural aspects.... And I'm curious, how do you see this in the construction of your criticisms/reviews?
You're still wrong about Sexy Red. A lot of people are angry at her for the reason you mentioned but a lot of black women are angry because they view her persona as "minstrelsy" especially in the context of the Drake cosign. Supposedly she is playing out a negative racist stereotype idk I'm not American I'm just saying you are too sure of yourself without looking into nuances of the backlash. Also you championing her to annoy misogynists and classists is just as cringe as the people you're trolling, especially when you're oblivious to the other issues her detractors have. And purely as a music reviewer...she isn't very good at rapping, are you reviewing her as a performance artist? I think I'm still annoyed you rated her higher than the genuinely talented Doechii but either way your take sucks
I don't get the anger towards Sexy Redd. Sure she can't rap but there are many other mid rappers with questionable personas and images who are as successful as she is.

The thing for me with Sexxy Redd is, sure its kinda low-brow, but so are many other male rappers and noone's giving them shit about it.
Bad music is bad music, the argument has nothing to do with the trashy hypersexualized lyrics

There will never be a music industry mass strike. You can't build collective solidarity if you're all competing to build your own individual brands. Finding a "scab" is just a matter of promoting one of the countless aspiring musicians.

I’m not a huge fan of Sexy Red but if your main reason for liking an artist is the fact that said artist pisses a large swathe of people off with just their presence, that’s a pretty terrible reason to like them.
Pretty sure that's the reason 99% of people give for supporting Trump 🤣
_My Reviews Are Bad_
Welll... yeah.
As I've said before on this channel; the power of a reviewer lies in the consistency of their voice. Thank you for being consistently wrong 🙏
I personally love how you sometimes run through the track list during a review. I'm always curious of your thoughts on each individual song.
Your reviews are hit or miss genuinely, usually pretty respectable too

2:26 I don’t think this perspective has much ground. Say what you want about midnights, but that album really captured the zeitgeist in 2022, just a couple years ago. Taylor is likely still capable of being a unique and widely popular voice in the pop scene, and TTPD was *probably* just a fluke.
Hope she sees this

Would Jimi Hendrix's 1970s music have been better than his 1960s music, if he'd lived.
BRING BACK THE BASS INTROS
Honestly, I kinda respect that she's doing her own thing and killing it without leaning on trends all the time.
@@jellytwins1018Yeah while i think the music isnt any Good she is just making her fans happy and Thats a Good thing to do.
don’t act like she wasn’t making pop music on red. i doubt the dubstep songs on that record was purely because of her artistic vision.

I kinda agree with the criticism of Anthony's reviews, I feel like he never really says WHY he thinks he likes something about a song.
They’re not bad you just have some wacky opinions but hey musics subjective so any opinion is technically valid
