Lets Argue: F.A.M.E by Chris Brown is a better Album than Brat, F.A.M.E redefined Electropop, whereas Brat went BACK to that Era and sounds, Chris Brown is a horrible person but it's funny how he made an Album that sonically paved the way for an Album like Brat yet F.A.M.E won't get its due because The Artist is a bad person, listen to Von Dutch by Charli then listen to Beautiful People by Chris, Chris made a better song of that musical style nearly 15 years prior

    • @iankrasnow5383
      @iankrasnow5383 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

There are winners and losers. The rise of streaming certainly put a lot of companies out of business and forced the big industry record companies to pivot. There's just a smaller amount of the money going into the music industry than there used to be, or at least the part where songs are recorded and distributed. So fewer people get a chance to butter their bread off that. Record deals aren't worth as much when their revenue comes from ads and spotify memberships. There's just less money in spotify memberships and ad sales than there was in physical album sales; and there are also more artists than ever trying to get a piece of that smaller pie.
Conversely, live concerts and merchandise are worth more today than ever, but Livenation and Ticketmaster are the real winners there.

though i like anthony's reviews, i genuinely think this is a good idea
like i don't think we should force him like in a school essay 'talk about a personal experience that relates to the songs on this album' because you can't always do it and very quickly he will have given his whole life away on the internet
but i feel like he should be a bit more open to tell anecdotes and the environment in which he listened to the album, use more personal language, more 'i feel like' rather than 'it makes you feel like'
anyway, of course, it's still his personal opinion whether he chooses to repeat that every sentence or not
not to mention the fact i say this based on my flawed memory not some frequency analysis of his actual language or close look at his structurr
and either way he adds disclaimers about that all the time, they're just at the end

5:37 this question falls flat on its face if you do some research on interviews and such before Kurt died. Nirvana was gonna stop being a band pretty much right after in utero. When You Know You're Right was done, that song was completely done by Kurt cuz pretty much everyone in the band stopped playing together. What we have is all of Nirvana whether he lived or not. He was probably gonna go down the No wave or even outsider music approach. His influences were so out there. Anyway, yeah. I definitely do think a reason for Nirvana's legendary status was how short their time in the limelight was. They simply had no chance to fall off. I think a good simile for this would be Dave Ghrol and The Foo Fighters, legend in his own right, now has tweens on social media telling him to "shut up, old man". Dear Mr melon, I love your reviews and think your feedback (even though I sometimes don’t agree with) is greatly appreciated. Sometimes when there’s a record that just came out, I’m too lazy to listen to it. So I wait for you to make a video and say some wise melon words. Also some of your takes can give me insight on records that I’ve listened to that make me grow more fond of it, or dislike it a little more. For example, a while back I listened to the album “King Of the Mischievous South vol. 2” by Denzel curry and I thought it was an odd approach for him to go from an introspective and lyrical approach. To a more mixtapey and crunchy theme. You gave me more insight on it by saying how it was a tribute to southern rap style mixtapes, which further improved my enjoyment. Your videos are great. Keep on listening to albums melon boy.
    -sincerely, ZR biscuit

regarding the assertion that your reviews are bad: i do think that you tend to miss the mark in your analysis of lyrics of female artists, specifically. your reviews fiona apple's "fetch the bolt cutters", fka twigs' "magdalene", even olivia rodrigo's "guts" all have examples of this. i don't know how much time you allow yourself to sit with a work before reviewing or what your process is, but it might be worth exploring this blindspot as there's something about songwriting/lyricism from a female perspective which you seem to consistently not pick up on.

I don’t think Nirvana would have fell off the way these other bands have. I think Kurt and Nirvana defined music of that time and they would continue to influence with new music at least through the rest of the 90s.

So true about personal experience with music - i do think when I see that connection in film reviews it makes more sense tho as they’re often more 1:1 to a human experience vs a song

That last take was so horrible. Why even watch the channel at that point?

Never mind I meant the one about Anthony’s videos.
But the last take about Sexxy Red was equally as dumb

I don’t really care what you rate the albums, sometimes I agree, sometimes I don’t. I learn about music I would not have heard otherwise from your channels, you know a lot and cover a lot of genres, so I stick around whether I agree or not. 🙂‍↔️💕✨

Your reviews are fine. However, sometimes I don't understand the parameters you put. For example, I've seen you compare the power of a vocalist over 60 years old to when he was twenty and it's obvious that it won't be the same thing. Another thing is what is your distance or understanding of productions around the world, for example, I think that sometimes you also use parameters that apply well to the US industry, but that are different for the rest of the world whether due to lack of resources, or because there are choices in the music production processes, from writing to recording, which are permeated by choices that also concern cultural aspects.... And I'm curious, how do you see this in the construction of your criticisms/reviews?

You're still wrong about Sexy Red. A lot of people are angry at her for the reason you mentioned but a lot of black women are angry because they view her persona as "minstrelsy" especially in the context of the Drake cosign. Supposedly she is playing out a negative racist stereotype idk I'm not American I'm just saying you are too sure of yourself without looking into nuances of the backlash. Also you championing her to annoy misogynists and classists is just as cringe as the people you're trolling, especially when you're oblivious to the other issues her detractors have. And purely as a music reviewer...she isn't very good at rapping, are you reviewing her as a performance artist? I think I'm still annoyed you rated her higher than the genuinely talented Doechii but either way your take sucks

I don't get the anger towards Sexy Redd. Sure she can't rap but there are many other mid rappers with questionable personas and images who are as successful as she is.
