Can the Anbernic RG405M play Gamecube Games?

- We tested 30+ Gamecube games on the Anbernic RG405M. Based on these tests, we got a significantly lower playability rating of 67.7% much lower than our tests on the Retroid Pocket 3+ which received a 82.7% rating! Many gamesare playable, but just not super smooth, that's why the rating went down quite a bit. I wonder why that is, perhaps further tests may do more justice.

I love that you went with the paper cut outs for the ranking instead of whatever software everyone is using now for all of those "Ranking" videos I see.
At first it was just me being too lazy to find/learn those websites. Then apparently a lot of people like them, so it's here to stay! Lol
This is so helpful, thank u! I love the presentation too. Does the new GammaOS bump more of these into the top tier?
Great work as always, thank you for all that you do
Thanks for watching!
Very nice video, I will keep this info for later. I bought this device specifically because it can handle some gamecube on top of all the older staples. Fingers crossed for even better performance down the road
Fantastic video! Extremely helpful to the community, thank you!
I’ve been looking for the perfect micro sized portable Pikmin 2 machine and I think I’ve finally found it!
Awesome!
You are the best!
And the RP3+ also just got a boost in performance after the new update making it even more enticing over this.
I'll probably retest several games with the RP3+'s newest update!
@@monospacechannel ah yes i'm waiting for the RP3+ retest video 😁
Congrats.. nice video! and awesome ranking with paper cuts!
Thank you very much!
Great video bro, totally on point
Thank you! Was looking for a below 200$ device that can run Tales of Symphonia well, you've saved me a nice chunk of change by including it. I thought it would be pretty easy to run but I guess I was wrong.
For Wind Waker you'd have to get to the forest of fairies before really giving a verdict. FPS can tank there in some devices.
The cutscene where Helmaroc King drops Tetra is also a very good benchmark because the music is synced to the cutscene. Any small delay would be very apparent.
Excellent job. I'm holding out on buying a handheld until the Gamecube is smoother. Just want to play Windwaker again! What are people's experiences with the games that are identified here as playable? And is there any hardware acceleration or graphic settings that can help with performance. For me it's the sound popping that I can't stand. Also, this model seems to be very popular in its price bracket. Any news on an upgraded version yet?
On top of this excellently concise and very useful video, we need to praise the fact that the games and chapters are in alphabetical order. You're a king.
It does take quite some time to edit the video and add timestamps etc. Thanks!
Ahh, I was hoping that this would be the system I play Wind Waker on. Gotta wait for the next generation sadly. Fantastic work, thank you!
I do wonder how this performed significantly worse than the RP3+ in emulating Gamecube games (even before the new RP3+ update)
@@monospacechannel I have watched your video but I don't think you tested Wind Waker, have you maybe tried it on your own time?
And I do wonder how that works. Especially since the Retroid update improved the performance even more! Wonder if they optimised the performance specifically for those emulators or something.
@@SzymonSaysStuff I think you misread what Monospace wrote. I think you read it backwards. He said “this (meaning rg405m) performed significantly worse _than_ the RP3+ emulating Gamecube”. Meaning RP3+ ran them better even *before* the Retroid update. Just as you’re saying.
@@Vmurph I don't know where you got the idea that I'm saying something different than you are xd
@@SzymonSaysStuff For two reasons. #1) because his comment about GC games performing worse compared to the rg450m. Your reply sounded like you disagreed when you replied by saying you didn’t think he tested Wind Waker, even though he shows himself testing it on the rg450m. And #2) because your reply sounded like you disagreed with him by saying that the RP3+ performs better, even before the update. Which makes no sense if that’s the same thing he said.
The second statement combined with the first, saying you didn’t think he tested Wind Waker, even though we see him do it, made me think you were saying you meant that he hadn’t tested it on the RP3+.
Maybe it was just poor wording, by your reply sounded a little bit contradictory, so I simply thought you read it wrong. It wasn’t meant to be a criticism.
Can you share the website you downloaded these roms from? And did you download an app to unzip the files cuz every time I download a GameCube game it downloads unzipped and corrupted. Pls help.
Are you using the emulators that came prepackaged with the device?
Mine does not perform this well out of the box..
Are you using OpenGL for doubledash? When I use Vulkan, the screen is dark when I am in a race.
I have a similar issue. Still trying to figure out how to get the settings right…
Please please do a PS2 video would love to know if time splitters 2 and Toby hawks runs well 😀 great channel!
give this man 2 oscar!
one for the job and the second in case he loses the first one!!
thank you for this!
Glad you like it!
What settings are you using if you don’t mind explaining it cuz I have games like Mario kart, Metroid and nba street for example move laggy.
Usually it's just the default settings. But try using other versions of Doplhin. I usually get the Dolphin MMJR2 from Retro Game Corps' tutorial
What are the steps to add native Nintendo Mario games to this device? None of them were included with the largest SD card that ships with the device. Thanks
Quite good seeing that only 5 odd games are slow and 2 are not worth bothering with ,but the retroid pocket 3+ has a new update which will make GameCube run better ,the only thing that is better about the rg405m is that its more mobile and practical to take out and about with you
True. I'm excited to see if there is really a huge difference with the update. Gonna test that soon!
Thats not even the best thing about the rg405m, that would be that glorious 4:3 aspect ratio screen @ 640x480 the native screen format and resolution for Gamecube, absolutely pixel perfect.
What settings did you use for Mario Kart Double Dash?
Did you hear the firmware for the RP3+ was updated and supposedly more ps2 and GC games?
Yup, gonna do several tests soon!
hello where can i download this games for my anbernic RG405M Gamma OS?
The sims lagging really hurt my heart lol, I wanted to get one of these just to play the sims bustin out and the urbz
daily dose of monospace video for the day. 😁
Where would gotcha force be under? Thank you to the person that answers my question
haven't tried it, but I'm guessing playable/patience needed
Can you maybe get your hands on like a samsung s10 or similar and do a long emulation test, mostly ps2? Please
I'm thinking of getting a new phone, but haven't decided yet which phone yet. But if I do, i might as well do some tests on it!
Does anyone know if Super Mario Bros. Sunshine, come on, most preloaded SD cards when you by Thr RG405M???
Awesome
I want an emulator so bad and I've been trying to find one that has/plays Tales of Symphonia this just gave me some hope I don't wanna wait for another gen lol
It's the same for 505, right?
Gamecube runs overal pretty great on this
Stock OS or gammaOS..?
Can run need for speed most wanted game cube?
Is Starfox adventures playable ? 😭😭
❤
Twilight Princess should be tested in a twilight realm because it is 2x as demanding
Metroid Prime is "playable" if by playable you mean the game doesn't crash, but it often dips below 30 fps or stutters.
Lindo
You put metroid prime in playable but it was running on average at 30 frames per second instead of 60 like it’s supposed to. So in other words it was running slow but you still put in on playable? Bs i bet you itll even crash if you play it any longer.
Very expensive to have and no powerful enough, my opinion.
agreed and being shilled by hypers
RP3+ with its newest update seems like a wiser choice, except you want this screen size
I don't have the GameCube games on mines this is fake advertisement
Usually it comes with a couple of Gamecube games. But yeah most of the games here are not preloaded, I installed them my own!
No F-Zero GX? Shame on you
FZero GX??
❤
