Debra K I went to lots of 70s concerts never got to see David. Am I crazy likin Music at 5 Years old. I was a Ladies Man in grade School the girls were crazy about my IRISH Freckles on my face. 70s grade school was crazy most of us 8th graders were drinking Beer. Cool a girl looked like Steavie Nicks, from Fleetwood Mac. Sorry its True most IRISH like there Alcohol. Us O'GRADY boys most have been good looking these girls came to our house sometimes right after school. It does suck most people think all IRISH are Drunks. Lots of people think our Freckles are Bug Bites. Us IRISH need to be carefull in the Sun our Skin burns easily. Thats funny were not born with Freckles we get them from the Sun. 1 Brother had so many Freckles on his face he looked like he was in the Sun for 8 hours. Funny Freckles disappear from face but not our body. I said to girlfriends your not afraid of IRISH Freckles. I was lucky girlfriends liked to party like me. I was 1 of those 8th graders drinking beer at 14 years old. I married a RODEO GIRL from NORTH DAKOTA. ND is a state with only Farm Land. I did feel bad taking her 1500 miles away from her Family. My Wife got me to like Country Music. I am Proud of myself being Irish & knowing my limits with Alcohol.

I remember as a young kid in the mid 70s dad had all the car doors open one warm spring day, cleaning out the car with the radio playing a pop station and this song started playing. When it got to the part with him talking I thought "Hm, good song." I always kepted it tucked in my memory then later found out where it came from and such.

I'm reading David Cassidy's memoir / autobiography "Could It Be Forever?"
He hated this song, didn't want to record it, thought the spoken bit in the middle was the kiss of death ... he was only paid $600 per week while Screen Gems, Chuck Lauder (teen mag publisher & producer of hot David Cassidy merchandise) made millions.
I was never a fan in the 70s myself, but my older sister was smitten like billions of girls.
David had to do as he was told, and feed the entourage of publicists & parasites or face ruin.
He had no say, no power at all.
No wonder he became an alcoholic, sadly he died aged 67 after multiple organ failure due to his alcoholism.
He was a nice guy, taken advantage of by the Marketing Machine. His story is so sad.

I go downtown and roam around but every street I walk I find another
    dead end
I'm on my own but I'm so all alone, I need somebody so I won't have to
    pretend
I know that someone's just waiting somewhere
I look around for her but she's just not there, oh!
    CHORUS:
Doesn't somebody want to be wanted like me?
    Where are you?
Doesn't somebody want to wanted like me - just like me
I'm runnin' free but I don't want to be, I couldn't take another day
    like yesterday
I'm dead on my feet from walkin' the street, I need somebody to help me find my way
I've gotta get out of this town, before I do I'll take a last look
    around, though
    CHORUS
    BREAK:
    SPOKEN:
"You know, I'm no different than anybody else.
I start each day and end each night.
It gets really lonely when you're by yourself.
    And where is love?
    And who is love?
    I gotta know."

David didn’t want to do the “speaking part” on this song. According to his biography it became a big deal. And for no good reason. They could have left it out. It’s David’s singing voice I always “cherished.”

@@annaacierno9195 DC preferred harder stuff, Cream, Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix.. I get that, I'm with him on that.. But this music from Partridge family had that pop-folk '60s sound, like Lovin' Spoonful, The Turtles, the Fortunes (Rainy Day Feeling) and so many others.. I'll take this over rap or 'hip hop' any day..

I'm reading David Cassidy's aitobiography. He almost quit the show over the speaking part in this song. They owned him & he had no say. When he heard the song he "finally flipped out. I didn't like the song and I didn't like the vary speed vocals. I hated the idea that they wanted me to talk rather than sing in the middle of it. The talking-over-the-music routine was old when Elvis did it on 'Are You Lonesome Tonight'. I said 'this is crass commercialism. It's hype. It's jive. It isn't me". Wes Farrel who owned all rights to the Partridge Family music & David Cassidy would use a trick "of altering the tape speed to make my voice sound higher than it really was". David hated yhe song and still can't listen to it at the time of writing his autobiography. The industry was making millions off his name, image, voice, likeness c selling everything from fan club memberships to lunch boxes to bead necklaces, gum etc and ge never earned a cent off it. The money lined the pockets of others who had purchased his identity. "Considering all the publicity I was getting, I'm sure a lot of people assumed I was making a bundle. But in the fall of 1970 as a star of a popular TV show, I was receiving only the $600 a week I'd originally negotiated, out of which, of course my agent took 10%, my manager took 15%, and so on. That was it. I received mo advances or royalties for making the records." The industry took full advantage of David Cassidy. I can't imagine not owning your own name, likeness or voice 😳 There should be laws that allow actors & singers to sue for owed money when they were scammed.
