    The way she said "the experiment isn't over" probably wasn't meant to be as harsh as it sounded because of the laugh track. She already said she enjoyed watching him grow and tracking his progress. The fact that he's still around and the "experiment isn't over" meant she's still watching him grow and finds him fascinating. It was actually sweet but they ruined it with a laugh.

    Ironically enough from a psychological viewpoint most of Beverly’s experiments if not all would be considered unethical because of the continued use of deception on a human subject the experiments on a child subject that resulted in psychological issues later on in life if Beverly wrote a paper about it would be heavily criticized

    • @kmbdizon
      @kmbdizon ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, because she might've kept the experiment a secret but the children grew up well provided for and only had different interactions with her. She wasn't demeaning nor abusing any of them in the common sense. The lack of approval she gave Leonard is how most boomer and older parents acted.
      The rest is up to the child on how to react based on the presence of lack thereof the "approval", which is what comprised the experiment. Essentially a search for the Goldilocks treatment/parenting.

    • @givanashakir6444
      @givanashakir6444 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@amandajohnson3531 yes it is common for children to be used in studies however it is about whether or not they were used ethically children can not be put under stressful or harmful situations which could impact them physically or mentally for the rest of their lives in this situation Beverley has experimented on Leonard to the point where he has developed psychological issues later on in life and because of that Beverley’s experiments are viewed as unethical also when conducting a psychological experiment you are required to debrief your patient after otherwise it’s considered unethical and it’s quite clear that Beverley has not debriefed Leonard on the experiments which further adds to it being unethical

    • @amandajohnson3531
      @amandajohnson3531 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@givanashakir6444 Nothing you're saying is incorrect, but it's not entirely correct either. This is the grey area of using your own children in experiments in that you can argue that it's your own parenting style that you're observing. Like how these experiments are being conducted on babies. You can't debrief a baby, you're just observing how they react to certain situations. This specifically applies to child development, not necessarily psychology as a whole. There is a long history in child development of researchers using their own children in order to circumvent the need of guardian permission to conduct experiments and sometimes the result of such experiments can't be observed until adulthood. It also allowed researchers constant access to their subjects so they could get the most recent data as it happens. Of course these are some older practices, it's more regulated now, but as long as nothing is shown to be out right abusive, Beverly could be in the clear of scrutiny from how she conducted this just on the technicality of it being her own child that's being observed. Of course, this is just me recalling some things from one year of child development studies and it is late, so I may be forgetting some points.

    I know it’s wrong to hate people but I hate Leonard’s mother. She’s selfish cold and very self-absorbed. She should never have had children. She’s basically been using Leonard since the day he was born. But yet can’t seem to see anything wrong with how she treated him or how she is; I don’t understand why narcissist parents do this to their children and screw them up so significantly and monumentally and then can’t understand or I should say refuse to understand why it is they are the way they are and the fact that the way they treated their children contributed to how they handle social situations and other relationships they are in whether they be family,friend, or romantic relationships.
    Another thing I noticed being raised by a narcissistic mother they intend on getting the last word always. My mother has this habit of whenever she’s gotten everything off of her chest she leaves the room while I’m still talking and closes the door in my face as if I don’t matter and my opinion doesn’t matter because she’s already gotten out what she has to say so anything else after that doesn’t matter; especially if it’s going to be an opposing argument or rebuttal to whatever she’s already said, she’ll know she’s wrong and will argue just as hard as if she were correct! Then is So quick to play the victim card it’s never her fault she’s always justified in anything she says or does and never sees fault in her actions.

    Im confused why he thinks she doesn't love him. She created a genuis whis is kind loving empathetic and shares. Kids who have over loving parents don't always create such a wonderful child. Just because she is like men with her feelings and her approach or her lack of warmth doesn't mean she didn't do all the things that made him great. Cause out of all of them on the show he is the most loving and generous.

      @@Antoinedesignstudio So you think her way of nurturing her son wasn't the reason why he turned out so well? Imagine if she wasn't there to teach him all the things she taught him what would he be like? Where was his father in all this? Cause it sounds like the MOM spent all the time with him. I think you don't see that it isn't how much emotion or warmth you show but you Show up all the time.

    TBH, Beverly's fault was only not giving Leonard praise when growing up, the rest of Leonard's bad memories was how he reacted to that "absent" approval... eg. him being needy...

    You know not all parents are openly affectionate, sometimes it’s a cultural thing. I’ve never had my parents tell me that they loved me and honestly I do think it would’ve freaked us out, but you know I always knew my parents loved me, and now they are both in spirit, I know they love me because it’s the feelings they bring to me. I also know that I’m not a physical emotional being, somewhat of a ‘cold fish’ but sometimes you’re the way you are not by upbringing but by experiences in life. I know my late sister wished that I was more demonstrative with my emotions, but I couldn’t, I didn’t know how to be this emotional being but I’m very certain she knew how I cherished her, we were very close as siblings. You know people do crave so much oral affirmation but they are missing the point, to know that someone loves you and cares for you, if you open yourself up you’ll be able to feel it. Just because somebody doesn’t tell you that they love you all the time and proud of you, their interactions with you and spending quality time with you should be appreciated as that affirmation. Anybody can say I love you but it’s not always meant, making a nice cup of tea for my parents, sister they knew my love. Strangely, in a very positive way I am still feel emotionally bonded to them even though they are on the other side

    That is definitely better than how it sounds at first. She didn't have a baby as an experiment. She had a baby and in time, noticed the experiments, and started to take note of them. I'd think real psychiatrists do use their own experiences to understand those of others. Including parenthood

    I wonder if she did this with all her kids or if it was just Leonard. If it was just him then it would’ve seemed like she was choosing to spend more time with him than her other children. In their eyes, Leonard might have seemed like her favourite. It’d actually explain why you never see his siblings. They might resent him for it, they’ve achieved more but Beverly still spends more time with him.

    Haven't watched the series, but judging by clips I've seen she appears to be an obvious psychopath. She straight up had a child as an experiment and gave as minimal care as possible. She's also obviously aware of the effect her actions have had on her child and chose not to care and instead only gives glimpses of false kindness, just enough to stop him from blocking her out entirely.

      actually her behaviour suggests asd given she does have emotions. to her the experiments are her fondest memories and she treasures them and this scene is pretty much her way of saying she loves him and will continue to do so cos the experiment which is primarily tracking his growth is not over. asd is commonly undiagnosed in women and it’s more likely that it’s the way she is and she does not know how to express certain emotions she’s feeling or is aware that leonard needs something. she’s very similar to sheldon and the only reason we accept sheldon is that cos of him being the protagonist we know his background and that he doesn’t intend to offend or hurt people and plus has a strong support circle. if sheldon didn’t have a missy growing up teaching him about how to deal with people or penny he would be just like beverley
