    I've watched the video several times, the horse has room to back up if he wants the rope slacker. The horse is very calm and I believe he is calling to other horses as he is at an environment away from home. If he was in distress that little cart would not be able to contain him!

    My special needs son loves horses 🐎🐴 and horse powered machines like that one he finds them very interesting and thinks it would be cool 😎 if a donkey or reindeer was powering it!

    In case anyone is interested in what is going on inside the unit - a wheel with a bunch of hammers whacks the grain stocks as they go through the machine. This knocks the grain off which falls through a moving sifting screen to below, while the shocks now grainless, move out the back as straw.

    The horse is not scared at all, he is calling some other horses around.
    The job on the treadmill is as little as nothing for a horse able to walk for 60 km a day without problems.

    Cool thing is, the horse ain't really workin. With the slight incline, his weight's doin' all the work. I'm always amazed at how fast these contraptions move with such little energy exerted. And did y'all see how he pawed at the slats before the guys started the belt? This fella likes this job! And he's up where he can see everything, smell everything. I wonder if this would be a safe job for an old work horse that still has the drive to work, but doesn't have the back for bearing weight. So long as his feet and legs are sound, of course. Animals are like people in the respect that they want a purpose in life, a job, something to do, and once they find it, they really hate retiring. There's nothing sadder in the world in my eyes than seein' a horse all by himself in a pasture with nothin' to do but eat and sleep. And folks wonder why he's mean, even when he's treated like a prince. I think folks forget that animal abuse doesn't always mean someone's beating or starving an animal. It also means denying their born drive to work alongside us as partners and friends. Sorry for the long post.

    I see some comments where people say this is "cruel" somehow. Folks, if the horse wasn't working he'd be in a dog food can some place. We can't afford to have 100 million horses standing around getting fat while kids starve. So we use them and get work out of them and take care of them. It's symbiotic relationship. Trust me, I work a lot harder than my horses.

    I've heard about these things, but never seen one run...I've heard the (oldtimers) talk about them... Yes, they worked the heck out of the horses... but then in old days they used work horses that were used to it and they were spelled off.... if done properley, it wasn't to bad on the horse... but they also said that the Tractor was a God send to a lot of horses!!!

  • @ajgensel9359
    @ajgensel9359 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    That's right, going for a sedate walk up a hill is obviously too much for this horse...seriously, this horse is young, has done this before and thinks its the greatest thing ever. Notice the completely happy expression on his face, the way he is lowering his head, blowing and nuzzling people in front of him. Don't know why you're all complaining, before they trained animals to do this it was the children, why do you think people had so many of them way back when.

    • @Saartje05
      @Saartje05 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      What people had way back then is totally irrelevant. I won´t say it will hurt the horse, especially because this is just a demonstration but saying it´s ok and for the horse it´s the greatest thing ever is nonsense. It doesn´t have a choice. Can´t stop, has to keep walking ´uphill´.

    • @ajgensel9359
      @ajgensel9359 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Saartje05 Really? You've never seen a horse break a halter and go flying backward? I knew a horse that seemed to do it for fun. If you can't see the happiness and willingness in this horses body language then maybe you should pay closer attention. A thousand pound plus horse doesn't do what it doesn't want to do, it obviously loves and respects its people and shows no aversion whatsoever to the task set before him. "Can't stop, has to keep walking 'uphill'" Gosh, how awful for the ancestor of an animal that evolved to move constantly to walk.

    • @Saartje05
      @Saartje05 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      aj gensel The fact the horse was evolved to move constantly out of free will doesn´t mean it likes to move because it HAS to... Many horses do what they don´t want to do btw, or do you really believe those poor horses in many countries work themselves to death for the fun of it? With open wounds and all?

    • @ajgensel9359
      @ajgensel9359 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Saartje05
      Please point out to me the third world country in this video, the open wounds on this horse or where it shows the animal being worked to death? This is a country fair, the horse is OBVIOUSLY happy, uninjured, not lame and is being monitored closely by numerous people. Grow up, domesticated animals exist to fill a purpose, a sedate walk uphill is a lot easier than struggling to survive in the wild. Just because you see videos or hear about horses being abused doesn't mean that all horses are abused.

    • @Saartje05
      @Saartje05 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      aj gensel READ. You claimed a horse doesn´t do what it doesn´t want to do. Then you obviously have never seen the abused horses in third world countries that are being worked to death. They don´t do that because they like it. You said A horse, not just this horse.

    You defenitly have a "horse" fixation, 2/3 of the video is on the horse only. I wish you had filmed more of the grain separator and the separated grains (end product).

    The horse walks no more than 15 minutes, at most. If you look carefully, you can see that he is smiling.

    Have people not heard of collection? When I collect my horse up, her neck is level with her back and going up hill it goes lower, much like what this horse here is doing. It will not shorten the horse's life.

  • @rdmanone
    @rdmanone 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I guess it was ok to put a hoarse behind a plow that was 5 times harder to pull, all the hoarse was doing was walking. The hoarse's wait on the incline did the work.

  • @EquicultureNYC
    @EquicultureNYC 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @Cyclist051 Judging from the body language, particularly at the beginning, as well as the whinnying throughout, it is not the treadmill that is upsetting the horse. This looks like it was filmed at a demonstration / fair away from the farm. The horse is unfamiliar with the surroundings (but not the equipment), and he/she probably also has some other equine friends on the fairgrounds (like back at the trailer) that he/she is "talking" to.

    @misntroya Lol, there are horses who are smarter than mules an donkeys as well. Nonetheless, the intelligence doesn't have anything to do with the breed/species. There are animals smarter than their own kind and other ones, just like there are humans smarter than other ones etc. =)

      +Paul D how do you think you go from grain in the field to oatmeal in a box? this is how grain was prepared after cutting. then the chaff has to be removed. another way was to beat it with flails or walk the horses/oxen over it... this way is much more sanitary. Commercially its done with big motor driven machines

      You speck to fast for your brain to catch up. tread mils have been used for years. it's the predecessor for the electric tread mill you walk on. now take a drive shave and power your computer with it then you will not complain.
