Already went on two trips this years, leaving next week for my 3rd one : 5 days in the woods with my friends looking for grouse, it'll be awesome. Thanks for the video!
Ah interesting! For me, I'm an evening hunter, hunting a few hundred km south of ya! The big reason I do is, especially early in the season, the ruffies around here get incredibly gregarious and fired up in the last 2 hoursish to sundown, I call that the prime time. My morning hunts have all been about as quiet as afternoon hunts here. Later in the season I find the afternoon hunts tend to smoothen out to be more successful as the days get shorter, and evening hunts settle down too. Definitely been fighting the sun before but haven't lost yet, always back by regulation time!
You must have REALLY good eyes! I can't see the birds when they're in the trees, even if I see where they landed! I couldn't even see them when you were pointing right at them...
must be canada, it's illegal to hunt Spruce Grouse where I live, the state says they are endangered. Luckily literally every grouse I see is a Ruffed anyway
I've been out daily for 2 weeks and what I can tell you is, I have spotted less than 10% of my total grouse between 11am-3pm. 80+% I've seen from 4-6, most in the literal last 90 minutes of light.
