SOLIDWORKS - 3D Texture Tool

- The 3D Texture Tool allows you to create complex textures in 2 simple steps.
The older way to accomplish this was to create the planes, sketches, and features that would give you a certain type of shape. You would then use a pattern to complete the texture over the surface. But this feature eliminates redundant steps.
You now have even greater control and customization with tools like Texture Refinement, Texture Offset Distance, and Maximum Element Size.

You should state, 'this feature is available from v2018 onwards'
Are these 3d textures in the appearance tab something that gets installed with solidworks? I do not have those and I cannot find any information online for where to get them.
It’s in the

Can we convert this to something that doesn't hog system resource and slow computer down? Anyway to convert it?

Hi. Very informative your video. Let me ask you something. Do you know which software I can use to create a new pattern that is not available in Solidworks library? Thanks in advance.
I use Substance Designer to create textures, patterns, and export height maps (the black and white bitmap image shown in the video). Highly recommended.
Thank you! this helped!
It's unfortunate that this feature is completely unusable to get a 3d surface texture onto an enclosure of any kind. Even the most simplistic shapes like box with rounded corners already fail using this method.
....as MOST new SW features, they are mostly very shallow and totally useless. SW should focus on fixing the many hundreds of bugs and all awkwardness instead of creating useless bling bling.
thanks for the guide!
Thanks!
very nice
I regret to say this, but this is one of SolidWorks' worst features. It is not only sloppy and unrefined but also a significant drain on system resources.
Which would you use as an alternative?
