    Great looking boots, don't need any breaking in either.My favourite walking boots are Scarpa Asolo, purchased nearly 40 years, the soles have replaced other than that they are in excellent condition, so pleased with them I have purchased a 2nd pair later model . They are a good 4 season one piece leather boot and fit like glove. Highly recommended.

    Cracking review, thank you ... based on this nicely positive video (and a few others) I've just ordered a pair of these Quest Element GTX boots .. after some searching about I managed found them online brand new for just £95 in lovely light sand yellow and white colours. Hope they fit well and live up to the hype .. looking forward to my first pair of Salomon boots!!

    Great review. How do you feel the ankle flexibility varies from the quest? Also, do you think that these would handle the same pack weight for backpacking? Any comparison to X Ultra 3 and X Ultra 4? Cheers :)

    Gorex boots keep your feet wet, I find.
    Leather are the best, imho, Andy.
    Get yourself a pair of Altburgs. See what you think about them.
    All the best.

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree if your feet get wet they stay wet. However, I make sure my boots stay dry (over trousers, gaiters, puddle dodging!) so I don’t have this issue and the Gore-Tex does it’s job. However, I’ve heard get things about Altburgs!

    Salomon are a good light boot but very narrow fitting as le sportiva was told all French makes run narrow, I'm a firm fan of altberg best of British traditional boots in 5 widths I'm wearing altberg mallerstang at minute and best boots I've worn and I've tried them all over the years combined with superfeet trailblazer insoles ultimate comfort

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like my Quests, these don't run narrow either. Lots of people really rate Altbergs. I'll have to try some on when I get the opportunity.

      I had quests few years ago and great boots but just to narrow I have wide feet arthritis and bunions so limited now also have foot drop due to back injury so have caliper fitted to my left boot but nothing stops me being outdoors 😁

    Nice review. Just a quick question for anyone who has either the Quests or the X Ultra Mid 4. I have them both and was wondering if you're feeling a lot of rocks underfoot, which is the case with the Ultras, or if it's relatively unnoticeable like with the Quests. There's an eight ounce difference between these and the Quests and I'm guessing that's where the weight is being cut. Thanks,

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve got those too (the shoe version) and I’m ok. However, I’m really feeling it on my lightweight Inov-8’s and La Sportiva boots 😩

    • @teejay3272
      @teejay3272 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BackpackingUK Thanks. Lightweight can come with sacrifices, huh? I went with Ultra 4 Mids because I'm not down with lacing system of the shoe and there's some good and bad to them. Looks like the Elements kind of split the difference. Hope they're still working out for you. Think I'll go with them after the Ultra's have lived and died. Thanks again for the review. Happy Trails.

  • @r.davies2702
    @r.davies2702 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been looking at investing in a pair of these. Some reviews say that you should size up due to the goretex membrane making the fit a little more snug. Did you find this to be the case?

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, don’t size up. The membrane is really thin. I would only size up if you wear really thick hiking socks.

    There are too many versions of boots on the market :P But these Salomons look like a nice option, I'll remember them when my Lowa Renegade GTXs finally fall apart :D So you compare the Element to the Quest, but what about the X Ultras?

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know, it's really hard to choose. My feet just suit Salomon boots. I think mid-height boots are x ultras but I prefer my Quests.

      @@ahoward3503 had them for about 5 years now, done hundreds of miles in them and they don't seem to want to die :D the original insoles were tragic, replaced them with Superfeet Green after a couple of hikes and I never looked back.

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Really well, but I weigh 70kg so I’m not that hard on boots. I’ve trashed them a few times and they keep the water out, don’t come apart and clean up well. Just remember to NikWax them (I do with all boots that have a reasonable amount of fabric on them 👍).

  • @therainbowgulag.
    @therainbowgulag. ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mine fell apart after 15 months unlike my leather Meindl boots that lasted 5 years. Plus they started leaking after a out 2 months.

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be fair, I'm happy if a pair of boots last 15 months. You have to look after all fabric boots with Nikwax otherwise they'll decline fairly rapidly. The plus side is they weigh much less than traditional boots. I guess you can't have it both ways?

  • @rafaeltogami

    I'm thinking about getting this boots to play Airsoft, does it offer good ankle support and is it good for running? Of course, I won't run a marathon, just a few short distances from point to point. I live in Brazil and there aren't many Salomon boots available in here, this one looks the one with best ankle support.

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You couldn't run in these. Try Inov-8 boots or something like other Salomons and Adidas Terrex.

  • @ahoward3503
    @ahoward3503 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually have tried the woman's boots Solomon. I respect them for the ski equipment they make, but for me their hiking boots fell short. While overall not uncomfortable, I found them sloppy at the ankle, and the tongue was bulky too. The ankle had a wide padding that was just too bulky and open that let burrs and sticks in my boot.I just felt the fit was not what I expected. Not to mention after a few months of off and on light use one of the top hook eyelets snapped off.

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everyone's feet are different. All I can say is 4 of us wear Salomon hiking boots and non of us have any complaints.

    • @ahoward3503
      @ahoward3503 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why it's great that there are so many options to choose from! Plus, women's and mens feet tend to be different too, so it may be a factor as well.

    what about grip on wet rocks ? 🪨

      so what's your answer ?? lol

    • @1maico1
      @1maico1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've found them average on wet rocks and not as good as Scarpa soles. Note the Elements have a slightly softer rubber sole compound than the Quest 4D so slightly more grip. They have less torsional rigidity though, so not as good for edging on rock. The Quest 4D is a more technical boot.
      The Elements have the cushiest ride of any boots I've owned, like a giant pair of running shoes with more ankle support!
      Anyone who has a hard outside heel strike due to underpronation will love the comfort of these boots

      Just got a brand new pair of these boots and straight from the box I did a 5 mile walk around the streets just to wear them in. I have to say these feel really comfortable with no issues with rubbing etc ( used a tight heel technique on the lacing up) really pleased so far, so will see once I hit the trails
