As someone with social anxiety I felt for the girl auditioning so much lol. I don’t blame her for asking a billion questions or being nervous but I don’t blame the casting directors for feeling the way they feel (especially keeping in mind this video is IF they said what they were thinking, and knowing in reality they’re generally more polite if not actually friendly despite being tired)
@@PJguy maybe. But I think if you spent hours doing any repetitive job you’d be tired by the end of your shift. Whether you’re a casting director, a coffee shop manager, a cashier, an accountant, or honestly any career. Keep in mind that everyone is human and everyone has bad tired days where they just think “stf and leave me alone”. What makes you a good vs bad person is how you outwardly respond to people despite feeling that way!
@gwenculver1040 I guess I’ve never felt that😅 I work in retail but if someone is sweet and timid like this, I won’t think stfu lol. The amount of stress that would cause them think such nasty things is not normal for any job. They can barely make it through a workday. That’s not good! They need to quit lol unless it’s a different life stressor… sorry for psychoanalyzing and making up lore for these simple characters 😂
I've auditioned thousands of performers and hired many hundreds. The teams I worked with NEVER had any of the contempt for auditioners which on display here. Our accompanists could play in any key, regardless of the sheet music. We endeavored for every auditionee to feel as comfortable as possible so that it would be a good experience for everyone.
Okay, so note to self: ask questions before going in and then afterwards keep them minimal and necessary, be prepared, pick a song you can sing that's not popular or well known (Dead Memories it is), and don't engage in normal human interaction unless you've been engaged. Got it.
The problems I see here: 1) Waiting for permission instead of just walking in. You’re here to audition, of course you can walk in! 2) Not immediately giving the pianist the music. It wastes time. 3) Making small talk. It wastes time and the casting directors know that you don’t actually care about their responses (and even if they do, they just assume you don’t.) 4) Not having the sheet music organized. Wastes time. 5) Having the sheet music in the wrong key. It has no purpose for even being in your book and it’s not like you can ask the accompanist to transpose on the spot. 6) Not listening to the casting directors the first time they tell you something. It shows right away that you don’t take direction well (bad). 7) Singing “On My Own.” 8) Not knowing the full musical’s plot. How can you connect with a song if you don’t know the context? 9) Making excuses for you not being 100%. They don’t care. 10) Asking “should I start?” Yes, you’re here to audition. 11) Warming up IN THE AUDITION ROOM??? (made that mistake rip) It’s unprofessional and makes you seem unprepared. 12) Using a casting director as a scene partner. It draws their attention away from the performance itself. 13) Forgetting crap in the room and going back in. Just don’t do that. Remember, the more you know what not to do, the better your auditions will get! This was a great video!
Asking “should I start” is good. Especially if you have a a pianist playing the piece. Most of the time I am told “you’re good to start.” Otherwise, I’ve seen times where casting directors say “wait wait wait. One sec.”
ig it depends on the directors. in my auditions, you nod at the pianist or some sort of non communication that youre ready because they're literally ready when you are. but it's different eveeywhere@@Rook-ep4pp
I feel like if I was nervous, I would make these mistakes too. It doesn't seem like an "of course you can just walk in" at the time if it's your first experience, and you might imagine that things would have to be more of a formal process to get started since it feels like a big moment for you. But this is when seeing other people's perspectives comes in handy, so that you'd know what they want you to do and get things done more quickly. And instead of a having to experience things firsthand, watching videos like this and hearing what people have to say can help you to be ready when you actually audition for the first time. Even though you'll probably still make some mistakes then too.
This is why I try so hard to be as quick and easy as possible for casting directors because I know they’re probably exhausted by the time they get to me and I don’t want to do anything that could make them catch an attitude, even if they’re polite about it on the outside. 😂😭
AGGGHGHGHGHGHG THIS PART 2:03 GOT ME....... NEVER EVER say that your voice isn't as good as it "normally is"!!!!!!!!! IF you do this you are actively admitting that you aren't giving your best preformance. This wastes the time of directors and shows that you aren't able to preform consistently..

As rude as I think the casting directors are being to that girl, I have to remember this is not how they'd actually act in a real audition, but instead what they're thinking and feeling generally when exhausted, bored and hoping the auditions are over. As fun as casting sounds to me as a job, I have to remember that casting directors see so many people in auditions, thousands even. I'm sure after a while, they'd get bored, exhausted and even frustrated, and it takes a lot of time and concentration for them to find the right person for the part, and that includes the chorus and not just the main parts.
Walk in confidently, don't make unnecessary conversation a single hello, or good evening will do (no questions that make them have to focus on talking to you such as how are you), be prepared with your music (make sure its in the right place and where you can find it, having a designated binger just for that specific song is perfect), then state your name and peice you're performing, never guve a disclaimer or comment about how it you be doing your best, its ok to take your time to breathe and get un the right headspace before you start your peice but when practicing your song or monologue before hand make sure you practicing gettin into character without doing a bunch of extra movements that take uo time and attention, after finishing a simple thank you is good and walk out confidently no matter how good or bad you feel it was.

What’s the problem with singing a popular song? The song is to showcase your voice I don’t know why people get so upset when people sing a song that isn’t the most underground thing ever.
The problem is that the casting directors are going to immediately compare you to the other 1500+ people they've seen perform that song and chances are, you're not going to be the best ever. Also, casting directors are human and get bored hearing the same song over and over. Performing a lesser known song gives you a better chance to make an impression.
So real talk though: on top of being in a super vulnerable position but still having the resilience to keep auditioning, on top of the work we put into preparing we're supposed to be mind readers? Why don't people just communicate clearly and respectfully? If that's too exhausting for the CDs, then have the monitor or whomever is wrangling the performers exactly what to do. I think it's kinda weird that all the actors are telling each other "don't do this or that" which actually can differ, depending on the CD. Instead of saying what not to do and adding more stress to everyone involved, just say what you need us to do. If we all communicated clearly, their would be no need for resentment for the people who aren't as experienced or mind readers. Why can't we just be mutually respectful and communicate clearly. I really don't understand that.

this was worse than skinamarink
To be fair to the creator, I think the claymation intro was really creative and the acting was good but the casting directors were so unlikeable as characters in this... I found it really difficult to see the humor in this video. It just made me cringe at how much the casting directors were jerks to the actor...
@ i meant in terms of how upsetting it was to me personally LMAO
This was so uncomfortable bro
She sounded good though I know it’s a skit but just saying
Okay but the directors were straight up being assholes, she was just trying to be polite and as a person who’s been in a few auditions it is incredibly nerve-wracking and this demeanor makes a lot of sense. I understand why these casting directors would be in this state, but this is straight up indecent on their part.
Honesty shouldn’t be this disrespectful.
Fr. I, personally, would just walk out. I'm not taking the disrespect 😂
