    It's known as the Punishment Parade, also the Dismount Parade, which started in 1894 when Queen Victoria found the entire guard drinking and gambling while on duty and as a punishment, ordered that they had to be inspected every day at 4pm by an officer for the next 100 years! When that period was up Queen Elizabeth II decreed that the parade should continue as a tradition.

      @@PH_1964 Corporal of Horse, cavalry equivalent of Sergeant, is the NCO in charge of the dismounted trooper's lineup.
      Whether intentional or not, his inflection and timing of the commands completely wrongfooted the No.2 trooper; who stepped off to 'dress' way too early.
      Anticipating a command on the parade ground is a no-no, like jumping a red light.

    Just out of interest. The armed Police that you see in the courtyard, are not from the London Metropolitan Police. They are from the highly trained Ministry of Defence Police Force, which is a national Police Force, operating throughout the U.K. Not to be confused with the Military Police, which each branch of the Armed Services, Army, Navy and Airforce have. Nor with the Nuclear Constabulary, which guard all Nuclear Power Stations throughout the U.K.

      Of course women do not March like men - it is a matter of anatomy. You should ask if they are capable of performing an officer’s duties, which they are, as evidenced. My personal observations are that women treat combat more seriously than men - for them it is not a game, but rather defense of hearth and home. In my day, women were allowed in the U.S. Army (I am 77). If I want to know how women can tolerate military service, I need only ask the other Lieutenant Colonel in the house.

      @varonmullis5255 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ffotograffydd What has your comment to do with mine? The anatomical differences are real. The female pelvis is relatively wider than that of a male, and muscle mass differences show up in marching gaits. As for females being able to outperform males, that much depends on the nature of the contest. Where physical brawn is not a factor, females are equal to males in intelligence and dexterity. My wife (that other Lieutenant Colonel in the house) rued the day the Womens Army Corps was integrated into the regular Army, for that meant the entrance standards for women would be lowered, and their higher standards were a point of pride. So, precisely where were my comments inaccurate and misogynistic? Or … was your comment intended to be a reply elsewhere?

These uniforms were not designed to be worn by a woman as females were not permitted to serve in these regiments. So rather than have new uniforms designed to fit females, they dressed them in male uniforms because it was cheaper. Which is why most of them don't fit properly

I doubt whether that Officer has bought that frockcoat as the cost of sewing the lace on the sleeves and the frogging to the front is very difficult to do, very few places will do it and the price would be exorbitant.

      If her uniform doesn’t meet your exacting standards then take it up with her tailor. I suspect though that you were just using this as an excuse to slip in a bit of casual misogyny and wasn’t expecting to get called out. 😉

      They're called helmets, or more specificallly Albert helmets. They're not meant to be particularly practical, they're mean to look good and are only worn for ceremonial duties, or at least they are now a days. This style of helmet, along with others, were developed during a time when the uniforms worn by these troopers were actual field uniforms and actually worn into battle.

      @@taraalan1131 Yes, that was the exact reason that (European militaries) up until around the time of the 1st World War, with then notable exception of the French who wore colorful blue and red uniforms into WWI, wore brightly colored and elaborate uniforms. The brightly colored uniforms allowed commanding officers to better see their troops on the battlefield, esp. before the invention of smokeless gunpowder the battlefield could be a very smoky place and dull uniforms could make it hard for a general hundreds of yard behind his troops to see what's going on. And they had to see their troops with their own eyes because they didn't have radios for their unit commanders to report their locations to them and had to be within hearing range of the army's drummers and musicians or a messenger on horseback for realying orders.
